Most occult authors are arm chair magicians. Since Crowley their hasn't been a real magician/author. Tell me how wrong I am?

A lot of those books are probably full of complete nonsense. Does anyone disagree?

@@bryanmcdougall6973 Just people playing pretend, at a time when they loved to scare the socialites at séances with floating tables and other theatrics. I mean of course there are things like higher consciousness, and healing, and foresight, but so much of that other stuff is just nonsense. And like any celebrity you have to play the part.

@@AllegraPersephone there is a fictional book, called Jonathan strange and Mr Norrel. It's a take on English magic in a time when magic is dead. The magic society in the book are a host of aristocrat's talking about theoretical plays but never partake of anything real. The story takes a twist when real magic is revealed by two magicians. In the end the magicians get destroyed. It's revealed in the end of the book that the magicians were just a spell cast by the Raven King. This raven king turns out to be just the dead ancestor of all English magic. Great book of fiction.

I think that’s a matter for individual discernment. Imo it’s also possible to glean inspiration and knowledge from anything, so to a degree it depends how you use and interpret a given text. But skills of discernment are very important to develop, so a person can work out whether they believe a text is “legitimate”, reliable or useful, in my opinion.

I read 50 to 100 esoteric books a year, and while i dont disagree with you, i also try to support living authors as much as possible because thats how theyre trying to survive often times, and its a very small market for their works. I live well well well below the poverty line and still manage to support people i respect

Most of these authors are small time. We wouldn't have a lot of this literature if they weren't able to cover the cost of publishing (never mind make a profit).
