    VIDEO INTRODUCTION: Japan is one of the most incredible countries of the 20th century, and the most astonishing fact about them this that, inspite of being completely ruined during the world war, in just 23 years, they rose from the ashes to become the second largest economy in the world by 1968 beating giants like France, Britain and Russia!!! and during this golden run, the Japaneese economy was growing at a super fast pace of 10% per year in the 1960s and even touched 12.9 percent!! But after that suddenly, the Japaneese economy wtinessed an economic crisis and since then their economy has been slowing down for the past 30 long years!! and even touched 0 and negative percent during global recessions!!!
    and guess what??? Today, Even after 30 years, they still haven't recovered back to their old pace!!!
    On top of that, after the Russia-Ukraine war started, Japan is in even deeper trouble with its economy is slowing down and its currency is falling down by 29% against the dollar!!
    and now just like us and UK even Japan is at the brink of an economic nightmare!! And considering where India is right now!!! If we make the same mistakes as Japan, it wouldnt take long for the Indian economy to slow down just like Japan!!!
    So let's deep dive and try to understand, How did Japan go from being the a super fast growing country to 3 decades of stagnation?
    What was so terribly wrong with the Japanese policies?
    and most importantly, as citizens of India what are the lessons that we need to learn from the painful fall of Japan?

Japan was ripping off USA but later China ripped off both and stole majority of manufacturing industry.

      imagine Japan has overtaken the Economy of the Soviet Union in 1980s
      to become the 2nd largest Economy in the world. by 1985 Japan has a per capita income similar to the United States!
      if you were alive in the 1980s
      Japan is the hype bruh. even the culture was being dominated by Japan up until the early 2000s
      with popular Anime, Sony Playstation, Camera, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Fujitsu and tons of Japanese brands crawlin over the intl market
      and what made it more hyped up is the fact that the ones being sold in Japan are sometimes better than the ones being sold in the intl market.
      It's kinda like what KPOP and the entire Korean wave today is.. back then in the 80s and 90s it was Japan.

      at the height of Japan's success, Japan's gdp was a whopping 67% of USA's gdp and her population slightly over half of america's....her gdp per cap was actually higher than USA's at one point in the 1980s.
      today, after 30 years of stagflation with no end in sight.....Japan's GDP is barely 25% of USA's......to say Japan has fallen is an understatement, Japan is merely a ghost of her former shell, permanently trapped in the past.

    In the 90s Japan was a leading producer of semiconductor and Toshiba was accused of illegally supplying Russia, components for their submarines. So Toshiba was sanctioned and had to pay hefty fines, plus cancellation of contracts which almost bankrupted the company, just like what the US is trying to do to Huawei and other Chinese companies today. The Plaza Accord was engineered by the Western allies and designed to drive out Japanese competitiveness by making the Yen expensive, practically destroyed the Japanese economy.

It was treasonous. Japan could have devalued the Yen easily by purchasing dollars. Why didn't they? Get your facts straight.

    Very succinctly put. Thousand likes for the video. Also to be blamed is the cheap retrofitting of the Japanese products by China. As you have rightly said even a bad decision at the right time is a good decision. I am reminded of my banking days in Delhi, a story is used to circulate. When the global financial markets needed a market in between the time zones of London and Tokyo, the choice fell on Bombay and Singapore. The condition was that there should be no interference from the government in running the market and Indira Gandhi did not accept, while Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore said yes and the rest is history.

    “Painful fall of Japan” overlooks the fact that this fall is totally in relative terms. China, India, AND America would all love to have standards of living as high, equitable, and stable as most of Japan. Japan got rich through the 1980s and has stayed rich since then, but has not gotten any richer in relation to the world. That’s hardly a disaster…

      The bubble and short term economic crash caused by the asset-price bubble were caused by accidental unintended effects from the Plaza accord, but the long term (through present day) economic growth decline is not, it's caused by demographic issues around falling birth rates and aging population (as you were taught). The growth of the Japanese economy was not sustainable at the hours that were being worked.

    • @lincolnsand5127
      @lincolnsand5127 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, I should note that despite what this video is trying to push, there is very little evidence the US created the Plaza accord as some evil plot to destroy the Japanese economy. They did it as a way to equalize the trade deficit between western allies during the cold war, especially because Japan had a massive trade surplus and the US had a trade deficit. The Plaza accord failed and had some negative unintended effects, but it wasn't some evil plot, just poor international monetary policy.

    • @JIRO-FX3150
      @JIRO-FX3150 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is not just one cause.
      The situation is stagnant due to multiple factors.
      However, although Japan's domestic economy is stagnant, Japan's foreign exchange reserves and overseas assets are growing every year, so it is not the Japanese government that has become poor, but the Japanese people.
      Japan owns over $10 trillion in overseas assets.
      This is about half of China's annual GDP.

      Not only Japan- the EU/UK has been undergoing the same in the past 10years: they flip properties and prices keep rising. Also, the big corporations are behind this prices as well: they ‘create’ interest and competition for property offers to the point that people submit in envelopes, so the highest bidder selected. Banks, at the same time lending at bigger ratios (salaries are far behind). Now it’s all coming to an end. %% is increasing rapidly, before - interest was near 1% and people borrowed hugely. Mortgages were for 30-35y, now with interest so high, I guess it would be ‘normal’ for them to be 50y+.

    This is a great video explaining the history of Japan's economic crisis and how a real estate boom without government intervention lead to the collapse of a major economy. Thank you for uploading it
    Can you plz create a video explaining how the US real estate market has not recovered nor the bubble burst yet and how it is followed by inflation, rising home prices post covid and how it has worsened the economy? It is a rather intertwined issue starting with the housing market crash in 2008 and today the market is even more bullish than the 2007 bubble. But if anyone can do it, it is you guys
    Thank you for always educating us!

    Hey 1 small request from myside. I have seen Indians being to obsessed with socialism. Everyone is under the mindset that govt should do something instead of you know thinking of How to Improve things by themselves. So can you make a video on this. As part of the video, you can Explain the main problems with govt interference and Free Market Capitalism vs socialism. I think with respect to disadvantages of govt interference, you can take reference from Nobel Prize Winning Economist Milton Friedman. He has a whole Playlist related to this known as Free to Choose. I think you can use practical examples to explain about Free Markets, socialism and disadvantages with govt interference. You will get enough content for this IMO and this whole can be a series in and of itself. And I promise you watching Milton Friedmans videos will Enlighten you

    Bro I am just starting to watch this video, but I can say for sure- ups and downs are part of any life cycle....but the resilience and recovery depends on reliable human capital which Japan doesn't lack like India and other developing countries. They will rise again sooner than any other country.
