I somewhat disagree with the notion that Graphene is for technically advanced users. I say somewhat because there are a couple of things that could really be regarded as software bugs in Graphene that can be fixed. Once you fix them, though, I don't think end users are going to have a hard time with it if, say, it came on their device. Where non-technical users have a problem with Graphene, some bugs notwithstanding, is that the installation process is complex, and there's that scary boot screen. Otherwise, it's just a couple extra permissions you have control over and the fact that you basically need a Play Store (or Aurora Store which again has its own problems) in order to have access to most of the apps on the platform.
I can see FUTO has so few views, it is only started and I am proud to be here from the very beginning. I will be able to tell, that I was here when you started.
I run a nextcloud instance, works great for me, my friends and my family, but I'm running a beefy server (not some arm device), and you should use the linuxserver image instead of the official one, afaik at this point the only issue that's still there would be the calendar and in-browser videoplayback, file transfers work fine over the app, the chatting function works great with the app, file syncing also works fine, it really has improved
it's really awesome podcast! I hope community find a solution to make the experience like iphone or better. maybe will happen by ditching app store & its services (user backyard mining) & power the PWA by making it similar to apps experience. & if that bring many users that will make the rest of famous apps companies to follow & do PWA. just imagine a phone with powerful private OS like Graphene with built in powerful private browser like Brave to install PWAs & PWAs without needing a browser after installed! Another thing is what phone OSs like GrapheneOS lacks it doesn't have tools for all phones manufacturers to enable installing the OS, like mine Huawei doesn't have a tool to allow installing GrapheneOS! I wish considering the next OS is based on open HarmonyOS (like Oniro OS) because it have more potential than Android
Vanadium (GrapheneOS's stock web browser and webview provider) is already much better than Brave for privacy so, there's that (tho it lacks ad-blocking, but for that a solid and basically universal solution would be AdGuard DNS). And it isn't GrpaheneOS that lacks tools to get installed in other phones. Rather, phones that aren't Pixels are basically not "worth" receiving this OS because they lack hardware and firmware security measures that GOS needs to be actually secure. Without these hardware and firmware measures, other phones wouldn't be much better, more private or safer, even with GrapheneOS, and it would also be harder to support such devices.
I think it's time to take back control of my phone as well. Android used to be fun when you could install other mods without the hassle. But now I have no freaking idea how to safely do it without the risk of bricking the phone. I need an exciting phone for my next purchase. Something that can be tailored to do exactly what you need it to do and doesn't require a login as the first interaction.
