"I say god damn what a rush!" That is a quote from the film that has always stuck with me, and it fits the film like a glove. Broken Arrow is a blast to watch, and great job reviewing it. I have always loved Broken Arrow and I always will. And just like you? Broken Arrow introduced me to John Woo as well, and I thank the film immensely for that. It features my favorite performance by Travolta and Slater, and one of my favorite scores as well buy Hans Zimmer. A spectacular, thrilling, amazing action film. That deserves a much better reputation than it gets. And if you ask me? It kicks Face/Off's teeth in.
+OcpCommunications Its by far in my top 5 favorite Hans Zimmer scores, I'm more a fan of his late 80's and 90's scores then I am of his more recent work and it fits the lightning fast pace that this action film has.
+LordMalice6d9 Zimmer is topnotch for his craft. If there was a mount rushmore for movie music composers no doubt the terrific Hans Zimmer would be on it. Like Elvis Presley he's amazing in the area of music which for him is movie music.
Love that line too!!! Travolta had some awesome lines but my favorite came from Giles Prentice (Government Dude) "I don't know which is worse that we lost a nuclear weapon or that it happens so much that there is a term for it" 😅😅😅😅
I really miss Zimmer's 80's and 90's Soundtracks. Broken Arrow, Crimson Tide, The Peacemaker, Black Rain, very bombastic and had character. They just got you pumped!! I love Broken Arrow ever since I saw it in the cinema back in 1996, the audience really got in to it too. Great review Matt.
Oh my god, I love this film to death. Me and my brother watched this all the time together. The film is so, so underrated. Love John Travolta and Christian Slater, love the action, love the score by Hans Zimmer which is also one of my favorites, so I agree with you on that, love the dialogue, love the directing by John Woo and love it more than Face/Off. Great review Matt.
Matt, excellent review, as always. Love this movie to death. This is my favorite John Travolta character (actually, this and Charlie Wax are almost tied) I love it when he plays a villain. So energetic and you can tell he puts a hell of alot into it. I've been waiting on you to review Hard Boiled and The Killer for like 3 years now (hint hint...make it happen! lol)
Though I don't enjoy Broken Arrow as much as Face Off, this film is still a good hard actioner with good action sequences and I fun villainous turn by Travolta. It's not my favorite but I do agree it's not given enough credit for it's fantastic action.
My favorite John Woo movie. I had high expectations when I first saw that he was the director for Face Off, which made it all the more disappointing when I saw it. It felt like they were trying to strike lightening again like they did with Broken Arrow, but kind of stumbled and fell in their asses instead. Not a terrible movie, but if I want to see a good action movie where John Travolta's the bad guy, I'll just watch Broken Arrow. The better movie.
I Love Broken Arrow its one of John Travolta's Best Villains, Love the action, the story, Christian Slater did a great job as the hero, I especially like Howie Long I thought he was ok as one a the Villains I don't mind him in the few movies he's been in like Broken Arrow, Firestorm, & 3000 Miles to Graceland
I wanted to watch this again and I'm someone that likes Broken Arrow Hard Target and Face off. The reason people love Face Off more than this though is that they think the drama plays more interesting with switching places with a killer that and people love Nic Cage over the top insane performance. I still love this movie for John's performance and think he is great here I like most of John Woo's films.
Broken Arrow is my second favorite action film which is my second favorite John Woo action film that I love to death . John Travolta is in his finest in this breathtaking John Woo movie.I think is incredible classic action thriller from the 90's I have ever saw. It is going to be 20. years since this movie come out and I still love it today more than any other movie. I love John Travolta in this movie which I think he did one of his best acting performances of his life. This is not only John Woo favorite film of mine but is also Christian Slater's favorite film. I absolutely love his character Capt. Riley Hale. It is a Die Hard movie and it is incredible underrated action film.
I haven't seen the entire video...but are reviewing some other John Woo films like Face/Off and perhaps a re-review of Paycheck? Hard Boiled would be another awesome one too but I know you're sort of burned out LOL. But yeah, I've always enjoyed this film and it's one the best 90s action films.for sure IMO.
I just wanted to add that I also feel that this film is a little underrated. The direction/performances were solid and the action scenes were awesome and intense. 8/10 for me. It would be cool to see a Face/Off review at some point, sorry for asking twice.
Fantastic action flick, i saw this on vhs in 97 loved it then still holds up now. Travolta is having a blast in the role and u can see that on the screen, slater was not bad at all. Prob my 2nd fav after hard target with 3rd being face off. Makes me laugh when i hear one of the music cues by zimmer which craven used for dewys theme in scream2.
this is one of sickest films i grew up since i was 8 years old i seen this movie when i was 8 it was crazy underrated classic of all time it is one of these movies i wanted to see more not john woo making Asian movies :( he should direct Expendables 4 that's what media said. i liked Christian Slater as actor but i was never fan of him i liked Broken Arrow and some another action movies not best but i think this is one of his best movies then anything else John Travolta is great in from pairs with love, Face/Off, Swordfish, Punisher, Pulp Fiction, Taking pelham 1,2,3 savages but this is one of great 90's action flick i liked broken arrow
A very epic review for a very underrated action classic from the 90's I enjoy ''Face/Off'' dough I enjoy the 2 disc set I own but I feel that John Woo flick got it both this film &''Hard Target'' deserve it also I love Travolta's performance as Deacon he having fun bits of words in this film like ''Hal,Hal pick up COME ON BUDDY pick up the phone''-Deacon ''Buddy? you tried to kill friendship is over''- Hal ''That doesn't mean I still don't like you''-Deacon He's just having so munch fun I really wish they would've got to play the villain in ''Die Hard 4'' instead of the boring lame fuckwit we got stuck with bro IMHO! Also Slater knocked it out of the park as well I like ''Hard Rain'' but I enjoy this film more. BTW Thanks so munch for putting the link to that baddass tv spot which I've enjoyed for this film Matt.
Great review Matt, and underrated classic indeed. I have no idea why Face Off gets all the glory and this gets nothing. Honestly, as John Woo fan, i think Face Off is his most overrated film and actually has some really weak points, like over the top acting and slow pace. As with all "forgotten" action films, i would also love to see special edition of Broken Arrow, but here's the reason why it could be problem Matt. I read this article on some web site about action films and such (I think it was Cineplex or something like that) couple years back and they had this piece about John Woo and he actually said that he would love for his films to get special editions and director's cuts but his Hong Kong work like Better Tomorrow 2 and Bullet in the Head all had their original cuts destroyed years ago and his US films like Hard Target and Broken Arrow are not getting anything due to studios disinterest for 'em. But, there might be something done for Hard Target in the future.
This one far batter then face off this is truly action kickass adventure for 2 un action heros the drictor drived them well And yea this my next john woo next to hard target I remmber watching it on tv when i was younger and i was woo and i went to video store brought it this was cool action movie almost in the end of action gaunra And the cop female was in the punisher as maria
You put Hard Boiled third after Hard Target and Broken Arrow? Seriously? Have you watched Hard Target very recently? Because there was a time I loved Hard Target as well until I saw it again not so long ago and I was shocked to find out how bad it was.
Yeah...I've seen Hard Target...multiple times in the past year. Even made my own version incorporating the NC-17 workprint cut and theatrical cut for my own fan edit/fancut to enjoy. Have the flick on Blu-Ray, VHS, DVD, and my fan cut version. Love Van Damme and am a huge fan of his (enjoy his performance in the workprint more where his voice is more natural), love the score, love the action, love the slo-mo, love Lance, love the villains, love the stuntwork, love the simple story, love the end song 'Born on the Bayou', love the Mardi Gras finale, love the NC-17 workprint, and love my own cut/edit of the film putting the workprint and theatrical cuts together.
+ramboraph4life Ok fair enough. I like Van Damme. But to me he did not match that well with John Woo. It felt like they had forced him to work together. He got much more out of his Chinese actors. And for me Chow Yun-Fat and John Woo combined was pure movie magic.
2:14 Agreed its one Zimmer's most underrated scores he's ever done. 12:47 I 2nd that statement Matt. 15:58 Well me,you and Mike all agree on that lol th-cam.com/video/FTaIth0yXGA/w-d-xo.html
+VaughnJogVlog Because I saw A Better Tomorrow and it was fucking Boring and honestly a letdown after hearing so much about it. The Killer and Hard Boiled are both Superior Efforts. A Better Tomorrow made the genre popular but Woo already had infused his style in two movies before it. Heroes Shed No Tears and Just Heroes. And one could argue that Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch is the one that started it all. John Woo has stated that he was heavily inspired by Peckinpah. That being said. I got into heroic bloodshed because of A Better Tomorrow.
+ramboraph4life I love Broken Arrow Matt.I went too see it with my late father when it came out in the cinema back in 96 and they showed a trailer for Independence Day.
+ramboraph4life Broken Arrow is definitely a high octane action roller coaster ride, but I have to admit, it is one of those kinds of action films where you have to shut off your brain and just enjoy the ride, because if you think about it too much the flaws and impossibilities of some of the scenes will become obvious.
"I say god damn what a rush!"

I loved the dialogue between slater and travolta about mummahad ail and foreman in the beginning
Very rewatchable action flick. One of my absolute favourite" just for fun" movies.Oh yes the score is excellent.
Broken Arrow is a personal favorite of mine, and has been since it came out.

Very interesting that it didn't have a cliched love interest which was a breath of fresh air.
My favorite John Woo movie. I had high expectations when I first saw that he was the director for Face Off, which made it all the more disappointing when I saw it. A 90s Action Masterpiece!!! An underrated classic.
Freaking love this movie. It almost made me want to join the USAF after watching it.
Miss these kinda action movies.
Awesome Review Matt. Such a Classic cheese fest. I wish more people would recognize it as well.

Cool review mate i do really like this film, i pretty much like all of John Woo's Films

If I met Christian Slater I would ask him if he did a lot of the dangerous for real or if he used doubles.

John Travolta killed his role in this flick, he was delightfully unhinged
A very epic review for a very underrated action classic from the 90's I enjoy ''Face/Off'' dough I enjoy the 2 disc set I own but I feel that John Woo flick got it both this film &''Hard Target'' deserve it also I love Travolta's performance as Deacon he having fun bits of words in this film like

Something must've happened to his reviews because I have not found a review of this on ocpcommunications' channel.

+Jack Craven That's really sad to hear Jack!
all ways liked this one for john trolvolta and his craziness
Would you say this is your #1 go to movie for John Travolta?
I really need to see this movie. I'm ashamed of myself.
most underrated movie ever

You're ranking John Woo films without seeing A Better Tomorrow, THE film that invented duel-fisting slowmo pistol Hong Kong action?!
+VaughnJogVlog Because I saw A Better Tomorrow and it was fucking Boring and honestly a letdown after hearing so much about it.

this movie was straight trash. couldn't even finish it
