Anyone can get fit. It's all in your head. Emotionally and Mentally are the hardest parts.

Yeah from what I've heard the barrier testing is easy as compared to the actual training. I was talking to a Commando the other day who was a reservist and passed the courses... He simply told me, "don't worry about if your in the reserves or not, if you want it bad enough, you'll get it." I'm not saying you'd have to train really had to get it, but I feel if you can handle it and learn quickly... You can make it.

Fitness. Beyond all else, that's what'll make you or break you. Everything else'll help, but remember that you get trained pretty comprehensively. It's mostly the mental aspect that gets people in the end, I'd say.

everyone always wants to join SF when they first join. My advance would be to join infantry first, do ARTC then SIngo. Once you have been in the corp for a year, train and apply ofr recon. Once a few years experience after that apply for the commando section of the carta course...
Thats my take on it anyway

I read a story about one guy who made it through the SASR selection... He was a civi joined the Reserves was in that for a month before he applied for SASR, passed the selection and who knows where he is now. I just joined the reserves and I'm going to go on the next commando intake (full-time) in March. Why not apply for 4RAR after your 2 years as a reservist??

Mate I passed CDO selection back in 87 and it nearly killed me. I was 22 at the time and was already a qualified Assault Pioneer in the Reserves. DO NOT train for their fitness selection, you won't make it.I beat out two Tactical Response Group cops to make selection. They will run you, swim you, uphill and down dale for two days without remorse. You will drop and sit up, push up until you puke... and then they will run you some more. Log carrys, man carrys.. it goes on and on. Best of luck mate

Don't go in a shit kicker, there's a certain height in ranks you can get before it ends. If you go in and 18 months as officer training you'll come out with a shit load of respect.

are commandoes the same thing as sasr?. if not what is the difference?

  • @boredomwillkillme
    @boredomwillkillme 14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@34lbs hes still wrong, however... interrogations are not performed by SAS and VIP escorts are done by Commandos/Cavalrymen unless the VIP is Colonel rank or above, which is rare. I should know this, as I'm a Corporal rank Commando Grade 2, 2 Cdo Regt. what you say about SAS acting as Commandos during service is correct, however. SAS rarely (if ever) are allowed to reveal their duties. if you pretend to be SAS, the real SAS will come to your house and pummell your face into the ground.

Do the commandos participate in the same selection course as the sasr?

    • @magnesiumoar9644

Kind of, just less tough. But only slightly less tough.

    • @drabbit4594

+Lewis Hughes No Commando selection and SASR selection are totally different beasts. Look at the Commandos as being more akin to the US Rangers and the SASR as DELTA.
You can apply to the Australian Commandos as many times as you like. You can only apply to the SASR once and then if you fail (even if you are medically discharged due to injury) you can not retake the course. That alone explains the vast difference.
That said both operate in similar situations and in fact both the SASR and 2nd Commando Regiment often undertake joint deployment.

@@drabbit4594 Yes the CTC (commando training Course) and Cadre (SASR) are different. I passed the CTC in 2006 as direct entry applicant. It is false however that you can apply to the CTC as many times as you wish. It really is the discretion of the DS and command if you can reapply.

@sargextc your understanding of "combat medic" is rather underwhelming, australia does not have medics in the sense your thinking. Its merely a position within a field hospital as an assistant nurse
