I was brought here because of only recently discovering the TV series Chuck, and this super song was used in Season 2 at the end of episode 10 and really caught my ear.
This song is destined to become one of the greats. It may take a while for the general population to 'get it', but, once they do it will be up there with the great ones, such as The Boxer, The Sounds of Silence, etc. I love this song, especially this particular performance.
Same. For me it’s partly because it’s like a vignette of that part of my life- leaving home, living kinda wild through college, then settling down with my partner- when I was only 23- and raising “our children up as gently as you please”. At 50, with our sons living far away, the song is a bittersweet reminiscence to days of youth...
I saw these guys a couple years ago in Portland when they opened for the Hold Steady. Amazing show, not many people were there to see them yet, but those who were loved it!
I don't know why i end up here, I'm just browsing videos on youtube,, then i saw this video! and it's my first time to hear this band music as well, i was like... WOW !! Cool guitar playing and the blending of their voice trigger me to listen to their music! then i started opening a new tab and search for Blitzen Trapper music! this band is Awesome! Mabuhay!
never heard of them until I randomly caught them on Conan...great song, and what Ive heard off the rest of the album sounds excellent too i think im going for a drive to get this shit right now!!
noop. I also did :D First time i hear it. Very good. And the last scene from tonights chuck may have been one of the best so far in the series. Cheers!
Very nice - definatly a lack of meaningful muscicans in the mainstream. Makes me happy. I immediatly thought Dylan with the leads intonation and mouth organ. Took me forever to trackdown the band while only knowing the name of the song spelled Fur... only 20 min but worth it. Thanks OP!
You can always ask on the Blitzen Trapper forum, to be sure. The guys, especially Marty, whose guitar you're discussing, are really good about answering questions.
Looks like if you put the capo on the 7th fret and play around with G, D, and C...you'll figure it out. I guess that relative to capo it is played in G, but it is actually in the key of D. Try that...
I agree with you about acoustic artists all being compared to dylan way too fast, but this performance is Dylan all the way, from his singing style to his harp licks. Nevertheless, amazing song and awesome singer!
almasoulguy: he wants to sound like bob dylan? solely because he uses a harmonica? listen to another one of their songs then tell me he wants to sound like bob.
Not really. There is a distinct Dylan sound here. There are a lot of Singer-Songwriter types that don't sound like Dylan. Frank Turner, Chuck Ragan, Chris McCaughan... Going older Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen... It just depends on how much they want to incorporate that sound.
I love that they still manage to include the wildlife noises when playing live!
Yeah miracles of modern technology huh

This song sounds old and lived-in, in the best way. Like a classic song from the 70's. Cool story in it, too. Love the new album.

14 years later. I've just heard this song. Really good song. But, I cant help but feel they got they harmonica bit and the "chorus" back to front.
I've recently gotten into this band in 2021 and I can't believe that they've been around this long. I don't get why I haven't heard of them until now
Same
thats how i feel
Earley emulates Dylan so well, it's eerie. One of the best bands of the 21st century.
I love this tune. The lyrics are wonderful. Whimsical, really.
I love this song so much. I don't know why but it makes me emotional
SAGE ANGEL WILLIAMS he must be hitting some trigger chords and/or words, because I feel it to.

Very nice - definatly a lack of meaningful muscicans in the mainstream. Makes me happy.

You're definitely not alone :D I was pretty psyched.

@scottyoungs It has been on a couple of TV-shows like Chuck and Numb3rs
Yeah, Jade does great work! I love the Furr video.

You're very welcome! I'm glad you like it, they're a great band!!
Great work.
This is an excellent version of a great song.
Better than the album version I'd say.
Looks like if you put the capo on the 7th fret and play around with G, D, and C...you'll figure it out. I guess that relative to capo it is played in G, but it is actually in the key of D. Try that...
I like "GOd & Suicide" best, im going to see them next week here in memphis.
They look like they are from Portland
I agree with you about acoustic artists all being compared to dylan way too fast, but this performance is Dylan all the way, from his singing style to his harp licks.
Nevertheless, amazing song and awesome singer!
Great Tune. They have a real Canadian Sound. eh!
Very Nice! Hard find good bands these days..
I know, right? Ridic exciting!
very good
almasoulguy: he wants to sound like bob dylan? solely because he uses a harmonica? listen to another one of their songs then tell me he wants to sound like bob.
They seem to be in it for the music, rather than the money ;-)
wish i could sound like that let alone be as poetic
i like this version
shouldnt even matter if he is ripping dylan off,
dylan ripped that graw from ramblin jack elliot
i like it, seeing them monday in norman
@TyHipster Haha, I wouldn't be surprised; Brent would probably like them.
Im just talking about this specific video actually, not the catalog or even the song.
Good song.
You can feel the Dylan influence, but it still their own song for sure.
@davidbassplanc and it's a #5 on this song....
hes just imitating him
what is the green thing that makes the howling noises? my band could use one of those
This is in a lower key from the recorded version, right?
clever song
nice song! XD
Best comment yet! :)
Do it, man! Best decision you'll ever make!
Okay, maybe that's a bit extreme in the grand scope of life. Still, really, really good decision!
Anyone know what key the harmonica would be in
Blitzen Trapper visited us today! Check out a cool version of "Furr" at my page.
You are very welcome :)
I know! Isn't it great? So raw and rootsy.
?
as big as the folk movement was back then? Seems like they would have thrived.
Epiphone ET-270
I bet Conan was tapping his toe!
@creaminitup Looks like a fender Jaguar
@creaminitup Epiphone ET270T
I hear a lot of Dylan.
sounds like Blitzen Trapper

word
did he drop his pick? lol
it sounds like the song royal jelly from dewey cox
The only reason I came here cuz he got the same last name as me
Bands like this are dying out of existence...being replaced with screamo, industrial, and punk...it's sad really.
Bring back CHUCK!!!
He looks like the FONZ in the vid
Good stuff... but......... I grew up in the 50's and 60's and don't think these guys would have made it out of the bar scene...
Very Dylan.
