    Just bought one of these from Artisan and your instructions are better than the paper one that comes with it! Thank you, Brenda!

    Brenda, thanks again for making this video. I used it tonight to put my new project - Mirabilia's "Roses of Provence" - on it, and your instructions were very clear and easy to follow. Take care!

    Brenda, Just starting to use my Artisan Design scroll frames. Your video is excellent and I have watched it a couple of times and get more information each time i.e., place your side straps far enough apart so the side bar will fit into the clamp. Thank you for taking the time to film this, plus leave 4" at the top and bottom. Very helpful.

    I saw one of these the other day and it had a project in progress on it but I wondered how they worked. It was a timely video Brenda. Thank you! I'm learning new things everyday.

      @@Handworkmaniac Thanks Brenda. I managed to get both sides of his robe up to his mittens. I had to dodge some mosquitoes but found it fun to stitch in the canyon and worked on some watercolor for Christmas cards only to discover I had to find part of it at home when we returned. Isn't that the way with things. I still have some completion on that front as well but I've got a worthy start now and have a couple of squares left to put in on my 2 new starts before the week is out. Only 3.7 rows left on my 2nd page of the HAED and then I'm going to find a reward and move onto the right again. How did you make out with the raccoon and did you get your needleworkers head on with your progression on your HAED?

    • @Handworkmaniac
      @Handworkmaniac  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@liliawebb9377 Yes, I stitched her head! But I am sure you saw that already in my last video. We were able to take care of the raccoon problem while we were there, and repair the house so they can't get in again, yay!

      @@Handworkmaniac So glad to hear it! We got back yesterday from a trip to the Grand Canyon to meet up with some sons and a daughter and granddaughter. We all wore masks; not so great to hike in but we stayed safe. We did give the girls a big hug though before we departed, masks and all. It was great seeing them and we laughed over all the stories of their lives and heard some confessions of things they did as kids neither my husband nor I knew about. Sheesh! All we could do was thank them for their confession and honesty.; burying a tub of ice cream none of them liked but had to eat or Dad wouldn't get them one they wanted. Dad found it in the garden when digging it up, getting it ready to plant but didn't know where it came from. Kids.

    Thank you for doing this tutorial. I was on the fence about ordering this system, but now will go ahead. It looks like it really works nicely. I'll probably get the lap frame to set it in too.

      You are welcome! I have loved all of my Artisan Design products. Just keep in mind that he is a one-man shop who has wild swings in the amount of orders he gets a week over the years. Sometimes when he gets overloaded with orders it takes him a few months to get to them all. And if you are trying to get a hold of him by phone, he has no other staff and only answers the phone when he is out in his shop and his hands are free :) But the quality of his product is outstanding.

    I know this is an older video but I just purchased these locking scroll rods for Christmas. I’m not sure if the design is newer or different design but my instructions say to place BOTH tension knobs on one side. I’ll try it both ways and see how it works!

      @Handworkmaniac  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, how interesting. My instructions said to make sure the knobs were opposite each other. I have will have to dig out my instructions and read them again!!! LOL

    Fascinating to watch, thank you for making such a detailed video with a great camera angle. Even though it would be really nice to have the fabric so smooth and pretty while working on it, I just can't imagine doing all that beforehand so I think for now I'll stick with the much more straight forward 'stitch in hand' method...! ☺️

    • @Handworkmaniac
      @Handworkmaniac  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank You! the in hand method is fabulous too, lol!!! Whatever works for you is the best method :) I rarely use scroll rods because they are so big and bulky, my favorite method is q-snaps. But I do use them occasionally on a piece with lots of specialty stitches.

    I'm about to order (Hi, Brenda!) I can't find the answer to my question anywhere. May I use the side bars and knobs that I already own? You know the kind of scroll rods and knobs I own now--same as forever. I hate to invest in more side bars and knobs unless it's best to do so. Thanks for the great video--I've sent the link to my daughter, too!

    Thanks for your tutorial. It is very interesting to see different scroll frames and how they work. I received a few days ago my frames from needle needs in the UK and I am very happy with them. I do not like to put the fabric into hoops. But this is only my preference. Lots of others love their hoops and q-snaps. Happy stitching

    What helps you decide whether to use a q snap or the scroll frame? Is it only if the project measures a certain size height-wise? I am remembering the beautiful Victorian House that you were stitching. That seemed pretty tall, but you were stitching it on a snaps. I don’t have a scroll frame, so I am trying to figure out if I need one. Thank for this video, it’s certainly very helpful!

    • @Handworkmaniac
      @Handworkmaniac  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Elizabeth! I should have talked about that in my video :) I definitely prefer q-snaps and I use them if at all possible. I generally only use scroll rods on the class pieces I have that are almost all specialty stitches because the q-snaps sometimes distort the specialty stitches and fragile specialty threads. And they were very expensive classes and materials. I started Serenity Harbor in a scroll rod because it is such a long piece of fabric, but realized I was hating it so I switched it back to a q-snap and am just using the quilting "peels" to hold that extra fabric on the bottom of the q-snap. Scroll rods are a lot heavier and bulkier and a tiny bit harder to balance on my lapstand, they are not my favorite, but they work well for the class pieces.

    I started using four inches on my fabric so I have enough fabric to feed through the scroll rods.
    Also where did you get your corner ruler at please?

    • @Handworkmaniac
      @Handworkmaniac  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great idea!!! I need to remember to do that more often when I start a project and know it will be on scroll rods :)
      I got that corner gauge at the Stitch-Con Retreat, from the Keepsakes store. I believe the Keepsakes store in Cincinnatti, OH, still sells them if you want to call them. Or you can buy a different one, there are a lot of companies and people who make them. Just do a search for "corner gauge" on Etsy, or "corner gauge, cross stitch" on Google. I'm sure some will pop up. You can also just use a 3 x 3 post-it note :)
