On the pronunciation of "chestnut": it really depends on the person. There have been quite a few words that the puzzle designer clearly pronounces differently. Personally I don't pronounce the T.

If I had to guess, "2 is not 1" in the orange room is just telling you that the cipher for level 2 is not the cipher from level 1.
