I love my 997s. I also use smaller versions of John Deere. In my experience , the 997s hold hills better because of its weight. Anyhow love John Deere or not you have to admit they do have the best deck's on the market. One piece of stamped steel compared to one with welds

Do you have any experience with the z994 verse a gas z930? Wondering about the weight increase with regards to sinking/ marking up yards.
205hours on the one I use. Its crazy how easy it is to mow ditches. I mean step shit. The plastic wheels on the deck seems to wear down quick but im doing alot of commercial and rough lawns. And alot the arm for the chute is weak so be careful for that.
How many gallons per hour are you getting under normal mowing conditions?
Have you pretty much standardized on JD for everything?
It is very interesting, how many working hours is the engine resource (when operated properly) ?

I say we fill up about every 5th week o we are mowing 2 hrs per week and so over 8-9 hrs and we fill up before it is too low
Deere specs says the 994 only weighs 40lbs less than the 997??
Yes with the regular tires and the 7 iron, remove the tires and go tweels and you save another 10 a tire and thats is lot not to mention the weight on the 997 is all rear end weight prone depending on the year and model. The weight on the 994 is moved forward to over rear axel and more to seat and front frame which is awesome for gripping on the hills.

What types of Spruce trees are you mowing around? I'm assuming you planted for a windbreak? If so, do you know the distance apart in feet that you planted them. Great video on the Deere!

I dont think so since that more requires lot more hp typical to cut

I’m going to buy 997r or 994r....I used to have 2016 997r...(sold it). I was thinking of saving some $$$ and get the 994r.

My Deere dealer told me that you can’t really compare the 2...not that the 994r is bad...it’s just not on the same level as 997r...so I’m nervous to move down to 994r

the 997 is at least 70lbs heavier and little more torquey yes, but that was the reason we did different. The weight and the lack of tweels back then made it heavy butt slides more, the lighter 994r with tweels sticks better and still not under powered at all, also it has the better seat and lower profile and shorter rear end to see around lol. for us the 994r has been the better even though its like the little brother to the 997r
You should’ve looked at the Kubota ZD1211 ....... do you ever look at anything other then a JD?
Actually we know it well, that is nice sized diesel too, the seat is the same almost between the companys which is nice but the deck is not near as strong and the pivot front end I do not like its strength nor the fact that it allows the deck to occassionally dig into the lawn on one side which is why lot of commerical mower people have to gone to it, also there is little like bike handle break level for the door system and that just doesnt hold up on the shoot door. Also the roll bar is nice but need a stronger lock mech on it the turn dial is kinda cheap and doesnt have as many positions. They need to make tweels standard and if able I really like to see longer warranty too then, We really like the digital display that kubota has though;) I think the most attractive part of the Kubota diesel is the 14K price, really its about 3-4k cheaper then 994R.
