  • publishing research in high school seems so unattainable... at least that's how i felt before i was able to do it myself, at the age of 17 too! in this video i talk about how i was able to publish my own research paper as a high school student, and provide some insight onto the research review and publication process.
    disclaimer: this video is based on my own personal experience from publishing research with the Journal of Emerging Investigators. i'm not an expert nor do i claim to be, and i'm merely hoping to provide my own insights on this somewhat unfamiliar area for many high school students!

    Hi! I recently got a spot in a lab for the summer, and I was invited to stay for the school year, which I would love to do, but I’m worried I won’t be able to, as I’m starting my first year of IB this coming school year; I’ve heard to expect at least 5 hours of homework a night. Do you have any tips on how you managed your time during the school year and were able to balance IB and research?

    • @HayleyChu
      @HayleyChu  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      first of all, congrats on getting the lab research opportunity! i think 5 hours of homework a night is a bit exaggerated; i personally spent probably an average of 3 hours max? (though this could just be me, and i procrastinate a lot lol.) so i'd say don't worry about it too much, and the only piece of advice (which is pretty generic) is to create a schedule so you can keep on top of things. hopefully this helps!

    • @keleezenwa1450

      @@szymongwozdz2338 hi! so i started early, in like February, because I wanted to start in the summer, but you can start whenever, depending on what time you intend to start the position. I would say to start digging and sending emails out about 3 months before you want to start working in a lab. I went to my local university website, clicked on the department I was interested in (psychology/neuroscience for me, but it could be bio, physics, chemistry, comp sci, whatever u like), and clicked on professors to see what they were researching. If you search up yt videos on how to land research spots for highschoolers, you will find them, youtube was the most helpful resource in getting me started. I personally wrote emails to the professors whose research and labs I was interested in. So you’re gonna have to write a lot of emails, because many professors will say no or won’t even respond, but I developed one email template and then substituted different info ab each professor in, to make that process easier. In your emails, make sure you bring up that specific professors research to show interest, and talk about why you would like to intern/be in their lab. if u would like to see the email template I used, drop your email and I can send one!
