This is one of my favourite Maiden tunes of the last 30 years and the reason I love it is mostly for the drumming and odd rhythms and time changes. Great job!
If you haven´t noticed, Joe nothing but follows the audio track. If Nicko changes the tempo Joe must change too :) Like at 2:36. I would say Nicko loves extending times here and there, especially during the fills.
I really appreciate how your attacks were precise and how you’re comfortable with them but (may be it’s me) I notice you don’t care too much about the rhythm and miss the metronome. Not only for this song but in general. Again you’re one of the drummers I enjoy watching among doing Iron Maiden covers. Cheers
Oh, you think? I think his timing is flawless. Not in a robotic sense either, he's got swing. Also take into consideration that the Maiden guys never record to click tracks, and that this is a live track to top it off. There's gonna be some inconsistencies in tempo and so on. Any band would be lucky to have this guy. :)
There was a cool documentary I saw about how Maiden records songs that speaks to this, it said they'd play the tracks several times and then each instrument would pick the "take" they liked the best, use it as a skeleton, then even go back and re-record takes over the top for every instrument until they get the feel they like. I've steered clear of Maiden early on until I get more comfortable outside the click myself, I give this dude major props for memorizing "feel" more than a click, it's not easy for sure.
Iron Maiden's next drummer? He's amazing on drums...
Love the facial expressions hahah Joe's inner nicko comes out

Joe Lazarus, what is it you are doing at 07:13? The transition, is it a tempo change or are you switching to trioles, another pace? :)
