  • Australian Commando Association’s Steve Pilmore says more soldiers have been lost to suicide than in combat during the Afghan war.
“Don’t forget we’ve already lost more guys to suicide since the Afghan war than we ever lost in combat operations,” Mr Pilmore told Sky News Australia host Chris Kenny.
“It has an ongoing effect and I don’t think this is helping one bit.
"The suicide rate for veterans is horrendous."

This is where you’re wrong, because the global war terror affects everyone, including Australia. As a part of NATO, Australia has a duty as well.
Remember, what happened to the United States when they didn’t want to get involved in World War II? The war came to us and the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor. Same as said about the war on terror, you don’t get involved next thing you know you’ll have terror inside your own country.
It’s sad what happened to somebody’s man, but you signed up for duty for a reason, and to serve your country, this includes defending your country from threats from a far.

Sorry no medals should be stripped, even if the person has been convicted of war crimes. Even the VC could’ve been stripped for anything, but then it was decided no one should ever lose it even for murder, so why should any soldier lose their campaign medals. You can’t collectively strip everyone’s medals.

The underlying problem with modern warfare is it requires more men than there are who are capable of handling it. Humans like all communal species have individuals evolved to perform specific functions within society. Teachers, healers, farmers, politicians and hunter/worriers. Only about 10% of men have evolved to be worriers, we call them Alpha and Sigma males, you know them the "bad boys" who can just cut off their emotions on demand. Unfortunately these few are also the men we require to be CEO's, managers and engineers etc, the doers in society. Many of these men join the military but become the officer class, the grunts on the ground are mostly made up of beta and gamma men who are good at taking orders but not emotionally equiped to deal with the horrors of war.
