About the garments , when a factory receives an order to make products for famous brands they tend to make like 1% more of the products than the original order. Because at the end there could be some rejections , although before that the products goes through various inspections. The cause of these rejections are so unfindable for a regular buyer. So the extra products, as well as some rejected products ends up in local market. But these products don't have any defects in it. The deference between these and a Official Brand shop product is somewhat like 99 and 100.

Hey Doug, So I’m a resident of Bangladesh. Basically in Bangladesh as you may already be aware of that we tent to produce a lot of products for exports. Often time Products are over produced hence causing a surplus, these products are then bought by high end stores such as Artisan and Astorion. On the contrary there are also products which are not exported due to defects or other issues. Those products are bought by wholesale who then sell them in way cheaper prices at a place khown as “Nurjahan market” or opposite of New market or opposite of Dhaka College. Hey Doug, just finished binging your videos on Bangladesh, gotta say this was the most raw experience I've witnessed any vlogger capturing so far! If you do plan on visiting again I think you should continue exploring the rural and raw areas, since you have no trouble blending in. It's a way better experience of the country as a whole, plus you're from New York, the metropolis should get boring pretty soon. Same with most of the mainstream tourist spots, they're mostly packed with tourists rather than regular people . The regular people are the charm of the country so do continue going on unconventional adventures to get the full package

I lived there 1998, 99. It has changed so much. There were no supermarkets, only DIT 1 and 2. DIT were antiquated with lots of wonderful, weird shops. I have a feeling these don't exist anymore.

Btw, the branded export quality garments end up in the shops like that primarily because of some defect in the production of some batch, so the entire order/lot gets canceled. So the manufacturers dump them at the local market for a very low cost. Also, some other reasons are shipping delays and overproduction. You can find knock offs too. I would have suggested trying out some local brands (like Freeland, Ecstasy). They have original design and quality is superb. Prices there will be higher though than shops like Artisan. You can find shops like these in almost every place in Dhaka. Near the Jamuna future park, there is one called Anannya Shopping Complex opposite the diplomatic zone. Never forget to bargain.
For foreigners, if you ever visit Bangaladeh, I know everyone talks about Old Town, but try these specific places: Fun Factory (a 20-storey game zone) Shahabuddin Park (another park in Gulshan, has a different vibe from Gulshan Park. It's a bit more chic, I guess? While Gulshan Park is traditional (Both are great) Ramna Park (another really pretty park, the pier on the lake is amazing) North end (their chocolate chip cookies are S-tier, a lot of people like to get work done there) German Club (a chill place to relax, you can get drinks, play tennis, swim in the pool etc) Chef's Table courtside (you should try the karting races there, it's really fun) The laser game zone on the top floor of the Gulshan unimart

Btw, the branded export quality garments end up in the shops like that primarily because of some defect in the production of some batch, so the entire order/lot gets canceled. So the manufacturers dump them at the local market for a very low cost. Also, some other reasons are shipping delays and overproduction. You can find knock offs too. I would have suggested trying out some local brands (like Freeland, Ecstasy). They have original design and quality is superb. Prices there will be higher though than shops like Artisan.
You can find shops like these in almost every place in Dhaka.
Near the Jamuna future park, there is one called Anannya Shopping Complex opposite the diplomatic zone. Never forget to bargain.

For foreigners, if you ever visit Bangaladeh, I know everyone talks about Old Town, but try these specific places:
Fun Factory (a 20-storey game zone)
Shahabuddin Park (another park in Gulshan, has a different vibe from Gulshan Park. It's a bit more chic, I guess? While Gulshan Park is traditional (Both are great)
Ramna Park (another really pretty park, the pier on the lake is amazing)
North end (their chocolate chip cookies are S-tier, a lot of people like to get work done there)
German Club (a chill place to relax, you can get drinks, play tennis, swim in the pool etc)
Chef's Table courtside (you should try the karting races there, it's really fun)
The laser game zone on the top floor of the Gulshan unimart
