I have a ‘50 Ford Coupe that has the original flathead in it. I recently learned it needs to be rebuilt because of low compression. I hope when the motor is torn down they won’t find a irreparable block. This video really helped to hear from a flathead expert! It is much appreciated!

I live in Canada, a friend has about 100 flathead blocks, and all the parts that go with them, not a lot of guys building them anymore.

back when scrap prices went crazy 07-08 ish. a friend of ours had a 50s something ford car that he needed gone. it was a completed rusted mess. but it had a complete untouched flathead v8 but again it had been open to the elements for at least 30 years. i asked around about should i save it or something to no avail.

I have long heard that the 81A and the 59A were the best ones as far as crack resistance is concerned. Any truth to that?

8BA and 59A typically are the best, they are also the last 2 iterations of this engine series, so many issues were ironed out 👍

Do you know someone in Phoenix that can weld/braze cast blocks?

Let me check, someone did in the past but I forget the name. I’ll send another response in a day or two
