Khan was clearly abusive, and this was a toxic, exploitative relationship. But leaving this scene in would make one wonder if, indeed, Khan did care for McGivers, and strengthen his motivation later for Wrath of Khan.
Not only that, there was the wooshing sound at this outtake. I believe those doors were operated by two men sliding them and the whooshing sound was added later.
@daffidavit yes, that's why they are always careful not to have dialog during the doors moving. But sometimes you hear the actual door rattle when dialog overlaps.
I wish that stayed in, as it makes the ending of the story nire powerful. Makes him even more rounded as a character, as well as making Star Trek II even more poignant as well.
Something that bears mentioning here, I think. These deleted scenes are not just takes; they're edited scenes that made it through post-production editing. How do we know that? Because I believe Star Trek was a one-camera shoot. And yet we frequently see cutting from shot to shot in these deleted scenes. Unless I'm wrong about it being a one-camera shoot, and the scenes were live-cut on video tape using a video switcher when recorded. Why spend the money and time to edit it if they ended up being excised from the final cut? That seems startlingly inefficient and wasteful.

Wow! I wish that this would have stayed in. It showed Khan's affection for Marla.
Lose the hair and face grope, and cut it at "You will be with me" and her reaction. Perfect.
Montalban sure was trusting that the doors would open. He was inches away and didn't flinch.

" ... including my beloved wife."
"Mr. Montalban, would you believe that you're going to star in a movie and reprise this role in a few years?"
Thanks for posting these.

Kahn, the PLAYA
Anytime Ricardo Montalban is in a show, it’s #1. E.G. “Mystery Street”.
