    Perfect teardown video - short, clear, concise, with just the right amount of additional comments on key elements. I've bookmarked it just in case of future need, but enjoyed watching it to learn more about the guts of my new P7Pro. Thanks PBK.🙂

    BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN SEPARATING THE SCREEN! THE PLASTIC FRAME MUST STAY WITH THE SCREEN! I was careful, used a heat gun, and gently separated it with a guitar pick, and even still, the pick went in-between the layers of the actual screen and killed it. It only poked into the layers 1mm or less and yet the screen is now non-functional. Make sure to start on the sides, NOT the top/bottom as that's where the screen layers can separate more easily. Also, put the pick/spudger straight down first as far as it will go and only then start angling it inwards to pry. Otherwise there's a good chance your spudger or pick will separate the screen layers and kill it.

  • @brunoturi5707
    @brunoturi5707 หลายเดือนก่อน

    but is the display you detach really the original one?
    because it is very strange that when you pass the pick under the perimeter of the screen it is as if you do not encounter obstacles, then there is a clear detachment of the image, a montage, and when you lift it you see that the frame is attached to the display and that it has some roughness. how come the pick slides smoothly?? the video shows that the frame remains in the frame but it is not like that, right? this leads those who disassemble it to damage the display.

    This video deserves at least one million views... Pixel 7 Pro should have had OIS for the UW, as well as for the front, and a TOF sensor as well for even better low-light performance... It is easily possible for Google to implement it.

    • @haoleiz5448
      @haoleiz5448 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      There are next to no phones that have OIS on the ultrawide camera, because at these kinds of FOVs slight movements are not really visible on the photo. Also, TOF sensors do not contribute to a better low-light performance.

    • @tanmayfadnis5440
      @tanmayfadnis5440 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@haoleiz5448 So, what is the problem with implementing OIS on a UW camera? Since these companies are charging such a huge amount, I guess there should be no problem in implementing it, and the TOF does make a difference in low-light, like the iPhone lidar sensor, which takes better portraits in low-light. The auto-focus is fast because of the TOF sensor.

    • @haoleiz5448
      @haoleiz5448 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@tanmayfadnis5440 Well I think the main reason for not implementing OIS into the ultrawide camera is that the competition doesn't have it either. Given that neither the IPhone 14 Pro nor the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra have it, you can't really expect Google to use OIS for the ultrawide camera in my opinion, especially considering both Pixels being cheaper phones. I guess OIS on the ultrawide camera is just not an industry standard yet.
      And in case of the TOF sensor, the IPhone does not make better low-light portraits due to the LIDAR sensor to my knowledge, it merely helps with edge detection. LIDAR can also scan 3d-objects as a bonus, but it doesn't help with image quality. Lastly, Google uses laser autofocus, making a TOF sensor a bit redundant

    Important question: I repair my phones myself. Repairability is very important before I purchase a new phone. One question I have and is not clear from the video... Do have to dissemble EVERYTHING in case you have to replace the back panel of the phone. A glass back panel breaks easily. Is there an easy way to replace the back panel. Thanks

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried to remove the back panel and it wouldn't budge so I didn't want to risk breaking it. It's possible you can still pry it off but its glued on tight. However the wireless charging coil is adhered to it as well, and the flex cable is routed inside the frame and under the main board, so if you are able to pry the back off, you would need to make sure your careful and are able to somehow peel off the wireless charging coil from the glass (if there is even enough work around room) so that you don't tear the cable. If not then you would need to disassemble the phone to remove the board and route the flex cable for the wireless charging/nfc out the back.

    I just had to open my phone after getting water in it very easily. I later noticed that the screen was seperated from the phone where the power button is. After removing the screen, I noticed the battery is slighty ballooned. I assumed this was from having it on a heating pad before opening. I now realize that it is probably why it was opened like it was, the battery pushing on the screen. I vaccummed out what moisture i could get out, lenses cleared up, may leave it over night to dry further. Do you think the battery should be replaced? Not sure why its like that, I keep it on a wireless charger 90% of the time. Also, should I replace the seal on the screen? Most of it pealed off on opening.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's best to remove the screen, disconnect the battery cable, dry out any moisture or water inside, brush off any corrosion around chips or connectors (so the phone won't short later on and render your motherboard or parts useless) and then re assemble it. But yeah if your battery is bloated, you definitely should change it since it can cause damage to your screen, or worse, pierce and catch fire later. Also if you want to keep water or dust/debris out, best to apply new adhesive. Here is a link to all the parts you need for it, including the adhesive tape for the screen: www.mobilesentrix.com/replacement-parts/others-brands-parts/google-pixel/pixel/pixel-7-pro

    Hi, my Pixel 7 pro was dipped into the water from the camera side (not the usb side). It worked fine for a couple of hours, after which the camera stopped working. Noticed some water seeped into the front cam area. Kept the ohone in rice for 24 hours and restarted the phone (no water visible anymore). • @SyNth-59
    @SyNth-59 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi there, small question. While removing my case I heard a "crack" and I then noticed that the the 5G antenna (the small plastic piece shaped like an oval on the top of the phone) is quite loose and I can lift it up a little with my nails. Is that an issue that could cause me to lose any connectivity/that needs fixing?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  ปีที่แล้ว

      That would probably just be the outer cover and not the antenna itself. The internal antenna should not be affected by it. However if the cover comes off, or breaks off, you can run into issues of dust or debris or even water getting into your phone.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because it's designed to be opened from the back for those phones compared to it being designed to be opened from the front on this phone. The phones which are designed to be opened from the front also generally don't have extremely strong adhesive around the screen that would make it difficult to pry off since there is a risk of damaging the screen if you need to repair anything inside the device.

    Very cool. Question - my phone got wet - I dissembled it and dried it out, butt noticed that the volume down button wasn't working after. I did something stupid and shut the phone down, and now it will only boot into a fastboot menu, but not allow me to boot to the OS. Any ideas on what it could be or how I could either disconnect the volume altogether or boot into the OS?

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Check and make sure there is no corrosion on any of the chips on the motherboard or connectors as well as the flex cable for the pwr and volume keys. If there is, use a small brush like a tooth brush to brush it off to prevent it from shorting. Most likely there is some corrosion either on the flex cable (which if I'm not mistaken was underneath the motherboard and the board sits on it making contact/connection) or by where the clickers behind the physical buttons are. So you may need to remove the screws holding the metal cover over the side buttons from the inside to release/remove it and clean out. Removing the flex cable completely wont help you since the power button flex is the same and you wouldn't be able to power it on. Most likely its just some corrosion or liquid left over shorting the cable making it think the volume up or down key are pressed and making it go into fastboot every time you power it on.

    • @NJFPV
      @NJFPV ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PBKreviews thank you. I have tried loosening the screws on the buttons (seems the volume up/down and the power are on the same rail.

    Curious, is the black USB-c port shell plastic? Google has been one of the only phone companies to use plastic usb-c ports that routinely fail early in phone ownership. I'm curious if they finally adopted metal usb-c ports like the rest of the industry. Thanks.

    Very nice video, My phone was dropped into a pool while on vacation. It was removed and set out to dry but about 2 hours into drying it got very very hot to where the top screen was easily removed so I opened that up to finish drying. Of curse it does not work now. I would like my pictures so can buy an identiacl phone to swap parts and try recovering them but what part stores the pictures locally ? I will put that into a working phone and see if I can get the pics
    thanks

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. Always keep in mind, if your phone gets water damage (even if ip rated and water makes its way in), you need to take it apart as soon as possible and disconnect the battery cable as well as dry out any water inside and brush off corrosion on chips and connectors. Because if the battery stays plugged in, the parts will short and become unusable. You can try taking apart completely and brushing off any corrosion on the motherboard and connectors with a small brush like a tooth brush, and then place the board in a working screen assembly with a new battery to see if it will power up. This way you rule out the screen and battery being defective. But if you still have no luck then you probably are out of options. The data is stored on the ROM chip on the motherboard and that's soldered to the board and isn't user replaceable.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would need to backup your data and do a factory reset (which would erase all you data) and if still no luck, then you can try running the fingerprint calibrations tool (pixelrepair.withgoogle.com/carrier_selection )

    How can you rate parts availability? The phone isn't even fully out, yet. (Yes, you can pre-order it)

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Based off general manufacturer parts availability like last years pixel 6 pro etc. Usually with pixel devices, ifixit has a self repair program for getting parts, but not all parts are available and not right away also.

    • @PBKreviews
      @PBKreviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not too sure, I would think its better for fast charging to charge each cell separately at the same time but aside from that I don't see what other benefit it would have.

    It's a bit sad that the charging port is soldered to the board, you'll need a heatgun to replace the thing, apart from that it's looks good, well, apart from the battery, you'll have to remove the display before removing the battery, wich could cause damage to the board if not done correctly
