    Pretty much my most driven interstate. I feel that I-35 could stand to be widened to 3 lanes each way from where it splits off from I-29 all the way to Excelsior Springs especially with growth in Liberty. Honestly though, traffic still kind of functions smoothly with just two lanes.

    It's one of the oldest stretches of I-35, started in the early 1950's as US 71 and 69 (the North Midtown, St. Joseph and Claycomo Expressway/freeways), originally only four lanes, connecting with the ancient Lewis & Clark Viaduct to Kansas. The new Paseo bridge over the Missouri River is really nice. Getting 35 up to six lanes will be a tight fit, with a narrow right-of-way.

    Fun fact that tunnel you see at 4:03 was built about a decade ago. It's used as a way for people exiting onto 75th street to bypass the northbound US-69 traffic merging onto I-35. The original northbound exit for 75th Street used to be around at 5:22 in the video. It's only of those rare instances where you see a long exit like this for a regular road. Roughly 1-2 minutes of solely driving an exit ramp from where you get off before reaching your desired destination. Interesting I'd say.

      It definitely helps, but once you get onto 69 northbound, it’s a hot mess. Construction and potholes everywhere, and I always seem to catch the crazy Kansas drivers, smh

    This is honestly one of the most smooth and impressive stretches of I-35, IMO. Although, the Alphabet Loop is outdated, I find it quite interesting, and I didn't know some construction was running down there too. But the one that tops it all off in the KC area with the interstate is the amazing bridge.

      Oh yeah. US-71 has a great bridge, driving through it at night is amazing.

    What else I don't like is no US 69 South exit from North I-35 in Overland Park, KS.

    • @MileageMikeTravels
      @MileageMikeTravels  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's a strange one. US 69's routing in this area is strange in itself. It leaves I-35 at 63rd st. but crosses over it again at the next exit.

    I'm just curious. Why does Interstate 29 start as concurrency with Interstate 35? Why can't it just start at the point in splits from Interstate 35?

    • @rjmcallister1888
      @rjmcallister1888 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      29 starts at the interchange with 35 and 70. Originally, 29 was planned to go south where the 71 freeway/expressway is now, but the NIMBYs have scuttled extending either 29 south or 49 north to the main interchanges. 49 ends at the Triangle.

    • @bullinmd
      @bullinmd ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MileageMikeTravels MO 110, along with IL 110, is part of the Chicago to Kansas City Expressway (CKC).

    • @rjmcallister1888
      @rjmcallister1888 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's also because there are two MO 110's. The other is in Jefferson County, between US 67 and MO 21. The CKC will be better effected if and when Missouri upgrades US 36 to I-72 west from Hannibal to I-35 at Bethany, using I-35/72/55 as a complete route. Upgrading all the listed MO/IL 110/CKC routes is highly unlikely (see Avenue of the Saints).

      No, it's for the Chicago-Kansas City expressway, a series of highways spaning from I-290 in the Chicago loop all the way to near Kansas City, Missouri.

    • @MileageMikeTravels

    Why mention Des Moines when KC or MO hasn't even been reached?

    • @KCDashcammer
      @KCDashcammer ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I don't like that either. I-435 signs for Kansas City at every 2 digit interstate including US-71 in the direction heading towards downtown except for I-70 in KCK (which is okay since you are in a KC technically) and shown in this video for I-35 in Johnson County which is ironic considering it's one of the points on I-435 furthest from the city limits of KC let alone downtown.

    • @banana7753
      @banana7753 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally, I don’t hate the idea of Des Moines signs in Kansas. But, I think what would make it more clear is adding Downtown KC (or just KC) in addition to Des Moines to the Kansas signs (gives drivers a heads up on where I-35 is heading to in the short and long term). They kind of do this thing in Arkansas with two control cities (EX: I-40 W in Little Rock often signs Fort Smith and Oklahoma City together).

    • @KCDashcammer
      @KCDashcammer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@banana7753 Definitely would rather have two control cities. Too often of times there is none around here.

    • @spoon6564
      @spoon6564 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I guess it assumes that drivers know that they're in the Kansas City area and that they should mention the next major city this interstate passes through despite it's distances away from that point
