What is supposed to happen when you set off the alarm at the door is a loss-prevention staffer in the camera room is supposed to roll back the footage and follow you through your visit to verify that you actually shoplifted, and if so to start a log on you in case you're habitual.

Nice analogy, but sadly this video is factually inaccurate. Revenue is NOT profit. Revenue refers to the amount of money you earn, but that's before any expenses. Walmart made a NEGATIVE profit of -1.8 bil as of Oct 2022. 152bil is from REVENUE.
If a business runs a LOSS for too long, they'll shut down. Social responsibility should be a priority, to ensure that everyones have cheap groceries. Stealing only offloads the costs to others, making more poor people.
Social responsibility should be upheld by everyone, including Walmart.

No, the theft applies to every store in a high crime neighborhood. They all get robbed
Then they start closing and moving out, and you have to travel greater distances to shop and pay higher prices. It's not a charity.
Then, the residents complain about "food deserts", watchful owners, high police presence, and lack of jobs.
Crime causes poverty. Chase the businesses out of your area, then complain. Wow

    • @Yunglou3000

Some ppl have clearly never been so desperate to feed their families that they resort to stealing. Theft is a byproduct of the system. When corporate greed squeezes the life out of all of us, I don't put it above any of us to be violent or to commit thievery. In Venezuela when the system collapsed, there were Doctors, business people and professors acting just like common gang members. My point is, they raise prices, don't pay people, all in the name of profit and this is what we get. Most people want to pay for things and not risk going to jail for petty theft...but when their kids are crying cause their belly hurts from hunger...they take the chance...and if they steal tvs and such, they just sell them to make money to pay rent or basic necessities. I'm not saying all theft is motivated by this, there are malicious ppl in the world, but for the most part, we are all just trying to survive. Defending corporate greed benefits no one but the 20 billionaires that run the world that will never let us peons join their ranks. I work hard and pay for my goods but I have enough empathy to know that I am lucky and blessed. If life had gone a different way, I'd be in someone else's shoes.

Not so simple. Yes, businesses can potentially claim a tax deduction for stolen goods as a casualty loss on their tax returns. However, there are limitations to this deduction. The stolen property must have been used for business purposes, and the loss must not be covered by insurance. Additionally, businesses can only deduct the portion of the loss that exceeds any potential reimbursement received, such as through insurance claims. Furthermore, documentation and proof of the theft are required to support the deduction, including filing a police report and demonstrating that reasonable efforts were made to recover the stolen property.
Otherwise every failing business could scam and recoup costs.

Thieves need harsher sentences, 100%, and 'no' saying it's 'wealth redistribution' or 'socialism' or 'reparations' is no excuse whatsoever. I hope in response to left-wing politicians being light on crime, once conservatives and right-wingers come to power there'll be an opposite effect in which crimes are punished more severely than they'd been prior to the changes.
Build more damn jails and prisons if need be. Separate the unworthy from those who are civilized. The Overton Window is beginning to sway in the other direction, and it's about damn time. Feels like a lot of change is coming in the next few years... and it would be very good for North America if Republicans held power in America and the Conservative Party held power in Canada ideally with a majority government.
Then, we can begin healing the horrific damage done by Biden and Trudeau. The economy will boom again, America will be energy-independent and a net-exporter, Canada likely will quickly become likewise, and the West can be strengthened again instead of weakened by weak people with weak socialist anti-West ideas and no moral compass whatsoever.

You can’t have expected anything different, automation is becoming more and more of a big deal. The first jobs to go are the tedious ones nobody enjoys doing like cashiering, there are still jobs just less cashier jobs. Nobody likes to do that anyway. But it’s not going to be the last. Over the next 20 years, there are going to be a tremendous amount of jobs eliminated because automation is going to take over. We’re even getting to a point where we’re automating the automation. Software engineering is at risk of being eliminated in the next few decades because there are programs that write and optimize code better then software engineers do. It’s not a bad thing either. It means within a century or two, we may get to a point where working isn’t necessary and would be optional because everything can run itself without the need for us to spend our lives working, and can instead spend them working on our passions. Everyone can live as if they were rich. That reality is coming. It is going to mean the world is going to change a lot and it means a lot of jobs need to be eliminated so we can automate them. Even ones that are considered good, but at some point within our children’s lifetimes that is going to be the reality. We are just in the transition years.

I work at Walmart… no body got fired, the cashiers ended up moving departments to higher paying positions or remained overseeing the self check out.

@@davideckard5827 “remained overseeing the self checkout” position wasn’t really removed… instead of standing at one register, the associate stands overseeing 4 self checkouts not having to do much but remove items a customer doesn’t want. A lot of the cashiers moved to OPD making 4 dollars more. The only people complaining are old people and those too lazy to move an item past the scanner. I personally always look for self checkouts, when shopping. It’s not that difficult
