      I raise Naked Necks (turkens) as well. Amazing birds and one of four breeds that are naturally disease resistant. In tests they outperform both commercial layers and broilers in adverse temperature conditions and are so stable they are used as control subjects in most research.
      They dress as a beautiful table bird and lay brown eggs that grade out extra large most times.

    I was surprised White Leghorns, Road Island Reds, or New Hampshire Reds weren't on the list most of the chicks as in rare can be ordered off chicken sites like Stromberg I'm a proponent of cross-breading my chickens so I want good egg color, broodiness, good meat, and size, free range, hardiness in temperature and disease. It takes time do but is worth it

    • @johnnycash5520
      @johnnycash5520 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it's worth it and the more you mix them up them they become more accustomed to your area and more disease-resistant it's all around a win-win situation let them Birds mix-up

      @@ProfitableAgribusinessIdeas yeah, in Australia I can't get most of those chicken breeds. Australorps can be hard to find in my area of Central Queensland. When they do show up, people pounce on them. Show breeders have ruined their fertility, so people are crossing them into Rhode Island Red to created neurotic creatures that eat their eggs if they don't get everything exactly the way they want it. I have Wyandotte, Sussex and Isa brown as well as the Australorp hybrids.

    • @kirkboswell2575
      @kirkboswell2575 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trudy - The issue of "best breed" vs "rarity" is a result of commercial vs backyard production. Commercial producers pick the breed that is most prolific with egg production while being tolerant of confinement. Those breeds are going to be very common. Backyard producers look for other and different factors. Egg production is one, yes. Meat production is another. After that, backyard producers look for the things they consider important - such as free range ability. Backyard producers also need at least some broodiness, or the particular breed will start to disappear. While a commercial breed may be fine as a backyard breed, an excellent backyard breed may be quite rare just because few backyard producers know about them, and commercial producers have other choices that are better for them.
