It still did some good. After Fudo lied and told them he'd seen a group matching Kenshiro's description, most of the soldiers jump on their bikes and ride off in the direction he pointed. And the whole reason Ken was hiding was not because some random mooks posed a threat but because they had the bridge wired with explosives. By the time the old guy ratted Ken out, he was already across.
