  • Something a bit different from my usual photography locations "tutorials" - an adventure that took me on top of one of the giants of the Alps - Mt. Castor!
Located in the Monte Rosa mountain range - in the western part of the Alps, Mt. Castor is one of the giants of the area with his 4228M (13870 ft) above sea level. The ascent is one of the big alpine classics - and it's (relatively speaking) one of the easiest you can tackle if you are a beginner (like me!) in the alpinism world.
I decided to cross the whole ridge and do a "round trip", climbing up from the Rifugio Guide d'Ayas and coming down from the Rifugio Quintino Sella al Felik; doing it this way allows you to see the two different sides of the mountain as well as enjoying different views on the way up and down.
I split the climb in two days - on the first one I hiked up from Pian di Verra Superiore (reached via jeep service, at 2320m) all the way to the Rifugio Guide d'Ayas (3420m); on the second day we reached the top of Castor at 4228m and then hiked all the way back down (going through the Quintino Sella) to the Colle di Bettaforca (at 2620m) - from where the jeep picked us up again and took us to the starting point!
As always, subtitles are available both in italian and english language.
Please, feel free to ask any question - I'll do my best to answer to all of them!

Thanks for sharing! You said it wasn’t technically difficult, but is there any training you’d recommend for being able to make it to the top? Also, could you talk about the gear that you took with you? Thanks again!

I think you shoot me an email a couple days ago, am I right? If yes, I just replied to that! 😁
