Good evening & Happy New Year from Auckland, New Zealand ...great collection ya got their ...my middle name is Athol ...so I guess I might start a collection then mind ya the postage will be huge though !!!
I really enjoy learning more about the history of vises. I collect as well, but not as much as some. Amazon has some great tripods for cheap that you might be able to use while making your videos. Speaking of videos, keep them coming. They are great.
Thanks for sharing. Great vises and it would be interesting to see more of your collection, but I agree with your assessment of your camera action...I'm gonna go have a seizure now :)
Was given a ATHOL 015 today. Can you talk about it please . Such as years of production, who retailed them ,cost when new. I am very happy to receive this fine vice for my shop.
The Starrett 015 was the largest of that line of light weight garage utility vises. Being starrett/athol they are overbuilt so they compare favorably to mid range heavy vises like a similar size Wilton bullet. Good solid vise. Sold from the late 60s to the mid 80s. The 015 is the 5” and reasonably collectable
Good content but as you acknowledge your camera work needs to slow down a little. Not hating, just trying to help. I love the Athol/ Starrett vises too, but also am fond of the Morgan and Reed and Wilton and Record vises. Really all of the vintage stuff that I have found is great. Enjoyed the info.
As I keep going I’ll find a ring light and some sort of mobile mount to get the content better. If you know a free editing program where I can edit clips together that would be awesome too. I’m planning a “brief history or reed” later this spring/summer and maybe a Morgan one too
Good morning and happy new year. While an m940 is not striking any bells in my head most vises are very similar in basic construction. @willstelter has a great video where he restored a prentiss 22 that is a very good guide. Do you have any pictures of the vise you can share with me and I can see if I can find more information for you?
I have a 324A that was given to me. Anything you could tell me about it? I need to find a way to lock down the swivel base as the nut and handle is missing.
I have seen people use the lockdowns from columbian vises that fit and work fairly well. Finding the lock downs as parts is difficult but finding a broken 624 or 324 might give you the part
Hi, I inherited a Athol 615 , when I go to open it the handle and shaft come out but the jaw does not move unless I pull it open, it closes fine. How do I fix it? Thanks in advance, Bob
@@robertpetersen443 the retaining clip is either missing or broken. I’ll see about tagging you in a short on it. Either Tuesday or Thursday depending when I’m home and make the time to pull one out. If you flip the vise over in the dynamic (the moving jaw) the screw goes in at the base of the casting where you can see the main screw at a 90 degree angle there is a hole that should be threaded and a 1/8” metal retainer that slots into a grove to hold the screw. It’s almost certainly missing or broken. Yiu can make a new one with an angle grinder and some sheet steel

Nice video, good content! Would you have any information concerning a # 93 Athol vise?
5” jaw around 70 pounds. Made from about 1880-1923 in 1923 the numbering system changed and the essentially same model became the 615
Thanks a lot ,i would never guess it was that old.By the way i bought it in a garage sale near Paris,France where i live for 40 €.

Have you heard of a m940, I cannot find any info on it, I’m wanting to restore it and was looking on here for any videos and came across your video.
