You would never "run directly in a straight line at a baserunner" (2:04) as the pitcher.If you had a baserunner caught up half way you "JHook" him. That's where You run a banana route from the mound to the dirt at home plate. and cut him off from going home while starting the run down going back towards 3rd .. You don't allow him to fool your players, your guys dictate the play. (8:38) no way 2nd runs the ball all the way across the field to third with a hang up play..... Geez. on the cut play 3rd bases responsibility is eye contact on the runner at third, We do this because the cut man can't catch and gauge the runner at the same time. If he runs Yell "runner" or "4", 2nd then proceeds to give the ball up immediately to either 3rd or home. Make a strong throw (ball always beats the runner)
