@ 4 minutes for the Oscars, 5 minutes for TCM. It’s become more about the musical performance at the Academy Awards and less about honoring the folks we lost…just my opinion. I agree, it’s not much time devoted to the subject.
Another fine tribute TCM. Shelley Duvall fine actress in one of my favourites 3 woman. Gena Rowlands one of the best,Donald Sutherland so many great performances and character actors James B Sikking and Nicholas pryor always added to any project they were involved with
A lot of legends lost this year, but sadly that's the reality every year that we lose more of the icons we recognise from the classics we all know. Delon & Rowlands are two of my all-time favourites. Shannen Doherty was a particularly sad one this year as she was still too young.
Thank You Turner Classic Movies for cranking this out yet again. This yearly occurance is simeoultaneously one of the Saddest and most Classy Beautiful Things Ever. 🎭🧸
Every year, I am always grateful that TCM produces these gems of in memoriams. It's a feat unmatched, like the many legends we have lost this year. Their legends live on. Thank you TCM for keeping them alive even fresh from their deaths.
I am so glad TCM puts these up on TH-cam so those of us who no longer have access to the channel can see it. Comcast/Xfinity moved it to a more expensive service tier a few years ago and we haven't seen any of its programming since except when traveling (some hotels will offer it). Some of these people I hadn't even realized had died, like Cindy Morgan, Martin Mull and Morgan Spurlock. Thanks to all the folks at the channel for putting these videos together every year and doing them so well.
Dabney Coleman hit me pretty hard. Very much a fixture in my childhood with all the many movies he made in the '80s. So many other greats as well. They will be missed, but I'm so grateful they leave behind such wonderful legacies in film.
@@WAEVOICE Also 9 to 5, On Golden Pond, Modern Problems, Tootsie, Cloak & Dagger, The Muppets Take Manhattan, The Man With One Red Shoe, Dragnet, and all his many other credits before, during, and after that time. Quite a CV.
100%. One of the best naturally earned character actor runs in all of Hollywood, he took a dislikeable villain role in 9 to 5 and made the most of it, and ran to the finish line for an epic and badass career tbh. He and Brian Dennehy both earned their legend status, they weren't model like lookers but they were so dang good in everything they did back then, and were quality human beings too. Also special respect points for Dabney to help to talk Eric Braden into accepting the Victor Newman role on The Young and the Restless, helped make him the best character in all of soaps. Guy was a genius. Rest easy Dabney.
My grandmother passed November 3rd. We watched TCM when I would visit her. I miss her every day. She would’ve loved this video. She loved movies. The last movie we saw together was Perfect Days. She was perfect to me.
Very well done, as always, but I could not help, but notice that you forgot David Soul, who was in two movies in the seventies, Magnum Force and Johnny Get Your Gun, but I would gather he was more well known for his television work as he has not had a lot of cinematic roles.
Every year we lose a lot of people that make the films we watch come to life. And whenever I watch these remembrances, I still get the feeling they’re alive only in the films we come to know and love and the memories we cherish.
Absolutely touching as always. I also wanna shout out Silvia Pinal, who for some reason didn't make this tribute but she's fierce. Also Eiko Matsuyama, who was in Lupin: Castle of Cagliostro, one of the best films of the 1970s but Toei is ruthless with copyright.
Once again, nicely done by TCM and the production crew that puts this all together. Music track was good, and 97 men and women were mentioned in this year's remembrance. 👍🏻
I teared up when they showed Roger Corman's name. He helped so many directors and actors get their start in the film industry thanks to his films. He always found a way to get his movies made. A true testament to his character. Hollywood owes him an incredible debt.

He was in a lot of movies I have watched lately. He had a funny part in Meet Me in St Louis as one of the neighborhood kids in the Halloween scene and a gripping part in the Strange love of Martha Ivers starring Barbara Stanwyck. But the Leave her to Heaven scene between him and Gene Tierney on the lake was quite scary and sad. Watched it a few times now and over time still has a punch.
Barbara Rush was amazing and should have had her own TCM remembers when she passed away in March. Did many memorable movies besides the Scifi she is known for and Flamingo Road TV show.
We lost so many greats that people who would have been the centerpiece a few years ago had to given the standard length of times, really makes you think about the legends we are losing over the years.
The saddest thing about these videos where true talents have left us, is that we are left with people like Will Farrell and Kim Karshian as actors of our generation. There's the extra layer of sadness.
Made me think of my mom who passed in March. She was a fan of TCM, also. She always reacted in kindness and sad by the passing of "stars" from the past. As always well done TCM. My mom is one of the few fans (that I Know) that would have reacted to Barbara Rush (It Came From Outer Space). I saw Cindy Morgan and totally forgot about Tron. But, I have seen Caddyshack SO MANY times that "Lacy Underall" is her first movie role I think of: "I was born to love you ... but you were born to love me first!" "Tie me up in some of your ties ... Ty?" I am not the only one surprised David Soul not mentioned? He died in January 2024. A true TV icon Starskey & Hutch; as well as the original Salem's Lot. So cool to see David Harris from Walter Hill's The Warriors getting some love. He was also good in the highly underrated A Soldier's Story directed by Norman Jewison (RIP). Teri Garr and Dabney Coleman both fondly remembered from my early teen years watching cable (HBO and Showtime) in the early 80's: From 9 To 5; to Young Frankenstein; Mr Mom; Wargames; and of course Garr and Coleman both memorably appearing in the iconic Tootsie (1982). Thanks for the memories 🙏
It was gratifying to see Elizabeth MacRae included in the year end tribute. When she passed earlier this year, the news media printed her obituary as Gomer Pyle actress dies, although there was more to Elizabeth than Gomer Pyle. She started in the 1950s in shows like Maverick and appeared in several episodes of Gunsmoke that should've made her a regular. And she appeared in a few movies along the way, though none were what anyone could call an A-film. But, I like to think about what Henry Fonda said about his movies: they couldn't all be A-movies. For every good movie he made, he made ten films that he called bad. He could've mentored a lot of actors and actresses who wanted only to do A-movies. I always hoped I would get Elizabeth's autograph since I thought she was such a sweet person and good actress. I always thought she was born in the 40s, though she was actually born in 1936. She didn't really seem that old in the TV series she was in and as for her movies, she made an impression on some of the critics and those that she didn't make an impression on, their loss. And who cares about what they thought? When she passed, I said a prayer for her and shed a tear for a beautiful angel. And also for her fellow actors and actresses and behind the scene personnel who left the world this year. They will all be missed.
I'm 67 and every year I find myself thinking, Wow, we lost a lot of big ones this year. We don't have a lot of Big Ones left. IMO, 2016 was one of worst big loss years.

It's sad that producer Jon Landau didn't get to see Avatar and Alita to their complete fruition. James Cameron just had to go play around on submarines instead of get the things done and out.
TCM should handle the In Memoriam part of the Oscars.
The problem with the Oscars, they are only given limited time to show the memorial.
@ 4 minutes for the Oscars, 5 minutes for TCM. It’s become more about the musical performance at the Academy Awards and less about honoring the folks we lost…just my opinion. I agree, it’s not much time devoted to the subject.
@@bkomp Yes, I know. It's a shame the Oscars don't do a better job in their memorial.
It's worse when in the past, they just showed the names at the beginning of the memoriam and then the song officially began.
I never watch the Oscars anyway. THE BEST tributes are always TCM
🌟💫
Nobody does this thing like TCM.
I always get so emotional watching these every year!
me too 🩷it's also one of my fave personal rituals for the end of year. 🌹🌹🌹
It's gotten worse since 2020!
@@mattcampbell7669
Well it won't get any better. There's a whole crop of actors in their 90s still living
Yes you are so right! Probably 100 living at 85 to over 100! With ten days left makes you wonder who is next!
You guys do these 1000% better than the Academy.
Beautifully done… So long Bob Newhart- you were a part of my life for over 50 years… RIP.
These are always so moving -- I started to tear up at Teri Garr. She was so special.
She was the best in Tootsie. Yeah, I just cry like a tick 🥀
When I saw Teri garr I chuckled, because of young Frankenstein!
This is the part of the year where I mourn the talent gone and the quality that may not be matched. Also, thank you for adding Shannen Doherty!
she looked so peaceful, I'm happy they gave her a nice send off after everything she had been though
My grandpa passed away this year too. He was my best friend. I wish he could be part of this beautiful video. Keep on the great work, TCM.
