Surrounded by a sea of supporters, the India team stood on an open-top bus to greet fans taking part in the trophy parade to Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium. India beat South Africa in the final to win the title for the first time since the inaugural tournament in 2007, when they beat rivals Pakistan. It was also India's first men's international title since winning the 2013 Champions Trophy.

There were an estimated 2.5 million people on the streets of Mumbai, celebrating in the victory parade. Another 500 million watched the event live.
News reports mentioned 3 lakhs or 0.3 million not 2.5 million. We like to wildly exaggerate don't we?

@@mja2239 You did not go and count, there were well more than there were in Argentina. I think it is plausible that 1/6th of Mumbai participated in the felicitation. Obviously you cannot fit 2.5 million people in one small location. When we say 2.5 million, that is over the entire length of the road from the hotel to the stadium, which is a couple of kilometers. A lot of it is along the long Marine Drive where we have drone photos that the entire road was completely packed with people end to end.
Argentina had over 5million. Their parade had to stop as too many people came out and players were taken in helicopters. Indian parade had 300k at most.
@@amokhan111 I don't believe that statement. Just because they decided to use helicopters, it could be for any reason, like need to get somewhere fast, security concerns, smaller road, unruly crowds, etc.
