This is an incredibly well done video and just in time for me! I just picked up my first vintage singer and the motor is stuck. Thank you so much for sharing!
Girl! I just have to thank you and Bob Fowler for helping me tackle a project on a 66 motor rewiring rollercoaster. Of course I saved this video for future reference but thanks to y’all I overcame that fear and got it done. I didn’t have a good lamp to put on there because the one that was on there was totally ruined so I didn’t get to add the lamp wire to the mix. That’s ok, I have the video for when the next opportunity presents itself. Thank you again.
Thanks! I plan on showing how to wire the new foot control in a separate video when I have time. At least I was able to share that it is possible to change it out in this video!
Thank you! It was fun to dive into, my first time on that particular model. Figuring out the wiring schematics was the hardest part, but now that I have done it once it will be easy! Good luck with your project!
@@SewingMachineRehab You have my gratitude. I was able to clean and rewire the BZ motor (it looks like it was in a fire due to melted cables) and it works. I was really anxious before I plugged it in.
I’m in a situation with a 66 model where I have to replace the wire on the light. Do you happen to have a video covering that on how to disassemble the light and rewire it to the motor?
Hi! I don’t have it yet but Bob Fowler probably does! Depending on the style of your light it can be pretty tricky. I’d search his channel and see if you can find one that matches the style you have. The late models are easier than the earlier models. I won’t be rewiring the late model 99 light because the one I used in this series didn’t need it. I will have to do something for my early model 99 light and let’s just say, it will not be my favorite thing to do!
Do you have a video showing how to repair the wiring on a 1926 bentwood knee lever (round) motor. Not the machine itself but the knee lever in the bottom box.
Hi! Those came from McMaster Carr. They have many different sizes but the ones I have are not magnetic. Doesn’t matter, they still make the job way easier. I think they are pretty affordable as well, I don’t work without them!
One question, I'm redoing a BZ 15-8 on an early 99K. Is there a trick to how much the case screws are tightened? If I apply torque, the armature does not spin, I have to back off the screws. Spacers?
Hi! It should spin freely even when the screws are tightened down. You can try moving around the spacers or removing one. Sometimes I find it helpful to lightly tap the pulley end of the shaft to make sure the other end is seated all the way down into the housing. Make sure that the grease wicks are not sticking out of the tubes and impeding the shaft from spinning. That’s about all I can offer without actually seeing it myself, I hope you can figure it out!
is there a spec. on how much end play the motor shaft should have from end to end, mine seems to have exessive end play, iam wondering if someone has been in this motor before me and left out a shim/thrust washer? Also is that thread looking stuff that is wrapped around just under the commutator supposed to be there, it's on mine as well and I don't see it there on other motor rebuild videos, thanks for your help 😁
Hi! A tiny bit of end play is ok. Too much will make it noisy. I am not sure if there is a spec, I haven’t seen one before so I usually go by feel. As far as the thread you are seeing, I would need to see a photo of it before I could answer. I hope that helps!
Hi! I would definitely not plug it in again until someone can check out the motor and wiring for you. Smoke is a bad thing and I wouldn't want you to have a fire or get electrocuted. Best to take it to someone who can check it out for you. Good luck!
Hi! Smoke is never good, I wouldn't plug it in again. If you can take it to someone who can go over the wiring and check the motor for you that would be best. It would be awful if it started a fire or electrocuted you. Wish I had better news but in this case, it needs someone who services machines to look at it. I hope that helps and good luck!
Thank you so much for making these educational videos!! I was able to rebuild my 99k motor tonight . It runs so nice now.. ❤
That is wonderful! Great job!

I am so happy it may be helpful to you! Good luck with your motor!
This is exactly what I needed to replace the old cracked cords. I have that exact same motor on my machine.
Yay! I am so happy it helped!

That is awesome! Glad we could help!
Excellent video and so well thought out and thorough. Really love watching your work. Exemplary.
Thank you so very much and thank you also for watching!
This already just amazes me... What a great tutorial... So detailed & informative. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to see what's next!
Thank you! Cleaning is next, it’s halfway filmed, having a ton of fun!
This was so helpful Jenn. Thanks for sharing and thanks for showing how you work with the new style foot pedal. Keep 'em coming.

@@SewingMachineRehab Yup. It is a needed video.
I needed exactly this information! Thank you so much!
You are so welcome! Glad it was helpful!
This was EXACTLY what I needed to see, thank you!
Yay! I am so glad to hear that, good luck with your project!
Thank you, I've been looking for a tear down of a BZ series motor. Great work.

Hi! I don't as of yet but have you checked out Bob Fowler's channel? He may have something, not sure...wish I could be of more help!
Great job on the motor! Thank you. I'm so glad you don't have to dissect that fish eye light! They are evil 😅
Me too! Got lucky with this one!
Enjoyed your video content🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much!
I would like to know more about the 'screwstarter' screwdriver that you used. Is it magnetic?
