- Miss World 1993 the 43rd edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 27 November 1993 at the Sun City Entertainment Centre in Sun City, South Africa.
Winner Jamaica - Lisa Hanna
1st Runner-up South Africa - Palesa Mofokeng
2nd Runner-up Philippines - Sharmaine Ruffa Gutierrez - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
The production in this edition was way ahead of it's time and is definitely one of the best. The stage has got to be one of the most technical I have ever seen.

Ms Philippines is beautiful
According to pageant insiders, especially Latino journalist Julio Rodriguez Matute, Miss Philippines Ruffa Gutierrez received the highest votes from the judges in the final voting ( 7 out of the 9 judges voted for her in first place). Members of the judging panel like Vanessa Williams and Jackie Chan testified about this after the pageant. However Eric Morley announced earlier that year that they are looking for a black queen that time, to help Miss World organization with their activities in south africa until 1995. That's why the organizers of Miss South Africa crowned a black winner for the first time in history because they are aware as host country. Also, rumors about Ruffa being involved in the Brunei Beauty scandal back in 1992 likely reached the Miss World organizers, so Eric Morley demoted her to third place that night despite the judges decision.
This is one of the best and most star studded (Pierce Brosnan, Twiggy, Vanessa Williams, Jackie Chan, George Benson,;Grace Jones etc..) edition of Miss World.

Bias ako kay Ruffa pero I admit Miss Jamaica's answer is slightly better than her in terms na mukhang it came from the heart talaga and very natural ang delivery. Let's just be happy we won second princess, it's already a great accomplishment. Ruffa did well, excellent choice as a candidate. Who would've thought. The filipino public really took her as a miss universe material dati and encouraged her na sumali sa Miss Philippines and thankfully she did and being part of the top3, I would say she aced this. Job well done kay Miss Ruffa.

From Philippines, Jamaica really deserves to win, also South Africa, and we are happy we won the second princess. Congratulations. I just find it quite a quick question for one of the candidates (Miss Croatia) that was asked for if the swim suit segment is outdated. I thought it was just a passing question maybe the candidate too. Never knew it was the question itself to get to the top3. I think it should've been delivered more or they should've had a translator for the contestant what a shame.
Miss Philippines and Miss Venezuela were the only ones wearing gowns that would look great today.. Ruffa stands out among these finalists and should have won the crown. She was aldo great in her final interview.

It is not a reahearsed answer, Ruffa Guttierez was born and grew up in the US and English is considered her first language, her eloquence in speaking is real. She is known for being witty since she came home to the Philippines living for good from the US in 1986.
Her answer is good pero Jamaica also excelled in it maybe a little more than our Miss Philippines kaya deserve din talaga ni Miss Jamaica yung crown. Just be happy we grabbed the second princess. Okay naman yun sports lang.

The intro from the beginning is very dramatic and extraordinary 0:00 (to the valley of the sun...) so much Olympic theme but executes well in a pageant world... amazing! This year Miss World 1993 is the best among the rest! Great production, so much effort, extraordinaire quality and very classic, it is truly the Olympic of beauty at that time! This format is unbeatable until today plus the official theme 16:17 (let it be right in the world tonight) song which perfectly executes to the entire show. All the candidates here are lucky especially the finalist to have this amazing host of Sun City SA because they are part of this great host.
I agree if Jamaica won in this edition at least she gives her best, but for me, 1st RU should be Miss Philippines followed by SA on 2nd RU

Unfortunately ruffa was a sacrificial lamb. I read an article that the organizers that year were looking for a black queen, they announced that to national directors around February 1993

Ruffa was the prettiest and most regal among the top 5, though miss jamaica nailed the evening gown and final question with very sincere and un rehearsed answer. besides it was rumoured that the organizers are really looking for a black queen worthy for the title that year, miss south Africa made history as the first black winner from South Africa because of this.
The Winner to me Deserves the Title. She's the Best Overall. Overwhelming Charisma.

When pageants were pageants... South Africa knows how to host. Dare I say, that 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995 were the best productions ever for Miss World.

Now its time for South Africa to host Miss Universe. The Miss South Africa 2019 pageant was a much better production than Miss Universe 2019 in Atlanta.

I remembered me and my mama watching this. Mama holding a pen and papers and listed her fave. I was 11 years old during ruffa's prime. Every time ruffa came out on stage my mama's keeps clapping and screaming hehe obviously she's a pageant enthusiasts. Hehe
