  • In this episode the internal architecture of a liquid crystal display found in LCD TVs is discussed. The design of this type of screen requires an assembly of different parts such as polarizing filters, liquid crystal, electronic circuits and color filter.

The thing that blows my mind is that the circuitry to control each pixel is placed behind the liquid crystal, yet is transparent enough to let the light through. How can they print circuits that small? Seems like magic to me.

This is the best explanation about the technology itself in Liquid Crystal Displays. Hope there's another one to talk about several changes which improved this technology to almost match with OLED types: The gain of contrast ratio; others LC types, as VA and LTPS; the FALD in miniLED for backlight etc. A question I have for Color filter on this screen, is: how do they get the acurate RGB pixel to show pure colors nowadays? Since oldest LCDs were so wayoff, in exhibiting blend colors, and now we have deepest reds/greens/blues we never saw before? If it is just the Quantum Dots layer, or if color filters are made with deep/solid RGB pixel? ...

not everyone understands the point of the capacitive structure. the point is that the E-field in the (idealized) infinite flat plane capactior that is created by this structure induces torques on the nematic liquid crystal aggregates (through the capacitor's electric field interacting with the dipole of the molecules, in the most simplistic basic idealized approximation obviously, everything "neat and nice and clean" and capable of being modeled with 1st year university calculus, lol). In practice, the important control input is the switching of the capacitors. A tremendously critical part of LCD development has been the capacitor "cell" optimization, and less about things like the light source (which is almot 100% of the focus in OLED research)

the old analogue crt tvs were a fantastic ingeneering accomplishment as well.

Why some LCD screen comes with a poor red and green pigmented resine, causing the display to show colors in a strong blueish tint? Poco x4 gt's LCD shows deep red and green, but most LCD (like on the moto g8 power's LCD) reds are orangeish and greens are so off...🤔

2:01 you say cholesteric have twisted structure and Nematic have common orientation, yet no structure. Then in 2:14 you said Twisted Nematic is used in displays. Why take unstructured Nematic and do something (like anchoring layer) to twist it when cholesteric is already twisted? thats one question. second question is ... you said there is no layerwise structure in Nematic. then how come when you use the anchoring layer, the successive layers of moleculeas further and further away from the anchoring layer tries to align with the first layer right next to the anchoring layer? without this aligning tendency, there would be no twist. so TN have aligned layer or not?

Hello, Genius, I'm getting a big doubt about LCD/LED TV's COF IC. I'm not getting any idea about this, because, I don't have a Microscope or DSO. If you are interested to help, please take a small test about this COF with IC & without IC.
Everybody knows all signals are coming from the T-CON board to the LCD panel with the help of the COF bonding method and its signal testing points also given in this COF.
But, why need this COF and what is the role of this IC? This IC's data is hidden or this is not an IC. Please clarify the truth about this COF.🤔

What's the function of the LCD bezel? Can I cut half of the upper side of the LCD to reduce dimension and resolution?

    •  ปีที่แล้ว

The TV bezel is the frame around the screen. It's what holds the screen in place and protects it from damage. Never cut an LCD screen because it will end up in the garbage

Haha fear not, a lot of these don't actually end up in landfills. I'm one of many who hunt for TV's for scrap lol, steel, aluminum, copper, and the electronics for gold/silver recovery, and the LCD screen contains indium.
