    I have been looking for this type of video! I have been saving all kinds of containers, so I love that you also try to reuse stuff !

    • @SoilandMargaritas
      @SoilandMargaritas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think for smaller growers like us it makes complete sense to re-use these containers, I would see how it could be inconvenient for people starting trays and trays of one type of flower but for me, they work great!

    I like you already! This looks like where I will be growing to be! Perfectly. I'm in Denver, Colorado Zone 5 B. I'll be starting onions within a few days. I grow more and more every year. I love the mix of colours in your trays, it's a girl thang. Grow 2022!!!

      Onions do not like me, I have tried them for 2 years...from seed and from sets and really not much to be proud of :/ I might look into ordering some "nicer" sets online somewhere this year.

    • @DragonflyArtz1
      @DragonflyArtz1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SoilandMargaritas I failed with sets. I'm going to try from seed for my first time this year. All we can do is keep trying. Eventually luck has to come our way. :)

    Great video! I'm sending the link to a friend who is just getting into seed starting for the first time. I have the same 1020 trays, 6 cell packs and 32 cell trays with inserts. I also have them set up on same size shelves. They fit so perfectly! Love bootstrap farmer products. I had to order more in the middle of growing last year because I kept starting more and more seeds! I also have the 72 and 128 cell trays. They are great for starting lots of sunflowers in succession. I haven't tried the tiny 288 cells before. Instead, I make 3/4 inch soil blocks for those tiny sized seedlings. I think they would be about the same size? Can't wait to follow along with your seed starting! Thank you for the wonderful info, as always!

    • @SoilandMargaritas
      @SoilandMargaritas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the 3/4" soil blocks are about the same, the plugs are a bit taller but about the same, I am also going to start some soil blocking this year, Do you have a favorite mix you use for those?

    • @wswchen
      @wswchen 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had great success using the pre-made soil blocking mix from The Gardeners Workshop. I also used their DIY soil blocking mix but had more variable results. Maybe my peat moss or compost was not as good quality? This year I’m trying Vermont Compost Fort Vee potting soil mix. I heard about it from Flower Hill Farm. Hope I get more consistent results. Looking forward to seeing your soil blocking seedlings!!

    This will be my 2nd year starting some plants from seed!! I agree with you, that many of the supplies that can purchased locally are very flimsy and don't stand up to lots of handling and moving around. The trays and small containers tend to break very easily. I placed an order with Bootstrap Farmer last week and I can't wait to get started on my seed starting this year!! Thanks for all you content and I look forward to following along with your seed starts this year, too.

    I love starting seeds! My 1st year I tried paper pots and my 2nd year I did the cheap plastic trays. I will use the plastic trays I have left but I think I will use paper pots this year again :) The plastic pots I got just didn't hold up. They were paper thin and I don't feel comfortable wasting that much plastic. I would definitely invest in some sturdier ones in the future though!

    • @SoilandMargaritas
      @SoilandMargaritas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same here! I will be doing more newspaper pots, they were easy and the paper became part of the soil eventually!

    You’re ready to go!! And it’s all so colourful. Yes, I like the blue 😊 as you know I have copied exactly your system with the lights and they were great last year. Only trouble for me is it’s all in my garden cabin which is not warm, so I do need my heat mats. Anyway, I still need to order seeds 😫 so I’d better get a move on. We mustn’t use peat based soils over here because our peat lands are becoming so depleted and we will be completely banned from buying it by 2024. Your room looks amazing!!

    • @SoilandMargaritas
      @SoilandMargaritas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m trying to decide where to put my shelf & new set up. Does your set up have any odors from the soil or anything? I’m not sure if I need to find a dedicated space or if it would be ok in an area that the family is spending a lot of time in. Thanks for your video, super helpful!

    • @SoilandMargaritas
      @SoilandMargaritas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, so I don't have a lot of space in other places to put my system, BUT, you also must take in consideration the brightness of the lights, if you have little ones it could potentially hard their eyes if they stare at those lights all the time, just something to think about. Also, no smells on mine.

    Love your channel. Do you know the dimensions of your shelves and where you got them? The ones I'm finding are about 18" deep and the trays are too long. TIA

    • @SoilandMargaritas
      @SoilandMargaritas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, they are 48" x 72" x 24", that info is on the video, I found them both at Lowes in the last couple of years, if you can get the deeper ones is better because you fit more trays in there... Good luck!
