I am an avide angler, and have a motoized kayak, but I mostly fish for bass. Are heavy rods better for hybrids? Or will a MH rod suffice? I didn't even know these were in hubbard. I live right next to the lake. Great video by the way.

You know I have caught them on Tawakoni with regular bass gear. When I troll like I was that day, I do use a heavier rod. That day was magic. I kept going over the school again and again. I don't find them very often any more so I fish Twok more. They are very plentiful there still.

I really think I had THE or was within 2lbs of the Texas State Record Hybrid at Ray Hubbard 2 Sundays ago. Fish was huge and straightened out my hook at the boat when the hook came out. It was laying on its side and as soon as I tried to lip it it dove... I was sick...

There are some toads in there! I lost a 50+ pound blue cat at the boat a couple of weeks ago. I forgot my net and tried to put my hand in its mouth to grab it and it snapped a 40# leader. It happens!

@@TrophyFish I'm going to post it even though you cant see the fish you will see the fight. I live on Hubbard and I'm just now learning it. 👍

Not as much pressure as the surrounding lakes.

Which area do you typically fish. Been to Ray Hubbard a few times but no hybrid luck.

Allen Maurice Around the Bayview Marina area. Especially where the ledges are.

Scott great job again, you make it look so easy. Quick question would you mind sharing you brush pile spots of Ray Hubbard?????

1st of all, thank you! I'm not going to give you coordinates, but I can tell you that there are brush piles within easy paddling from just about every boat ramp on RH. Use your electronics and save them when you find them on your chart. I have found SO many of them. Make sure you get different depths too. Sometimes the fish will be shallow and sometimes deep. Good luck out there!

ah yes, ive fished it many times but not had any that big there. there is a drastic drop off there. it can catch you by surprise if motoring around that point when coming from bass pro. . . . there is a long rock jetty jutting out toward the north east near the powerplant , and near the end of it just a hundred yds or so east of it is a big hump. ive caught all my big ones there. give it a shot if you ever have problems finding them, especially very early or hour leading up to sunset

How do you go about looking for them? I just got a kayak and I am interested in getting out there and fishing for some hybrids

97PepsiCola Finding them is hit and miss. Usually I’ll find schools of sandbass and they will be mixed in with them. Trolling in the summer is a great way to find them. Once you hook up, look for the school. Time on the water is key. I’ve learned where they are during certain times of the year. They’re about to start going to the humps soon and early mornings will offer some surface bites. Later in the evening too.

Are you trolling Rattle Traps? I fish Hubbard all the time don’t do that good.

That day was Rattle Traps, but I troll other crank baits and use some soft plastic swim baits as well.
