  • In this GrandMA3 tutorial we are starting with a blank show and working our way forward one step at a time.
    This GrandMA3 tutorial is design For GrandMA3 beginners 😀
    We start a new GrandMA3 show and we start with going thru some of the setting in the grandMA3 system. Then we start patching fixtures and continue with building our GrandMA3 presets in our programming window.
    We Group our fixtures in the GrandMA3 patch, and setup our GrandMA3 3D view to be able to see what we are doing in real life. We build our GrandMA3 color presets, and we make a few other Dimmer, position and gobo presets.
    After all that we start with making a simple GrandMA3 layout view, that way we can better select our fixtures. We start up again with building a few GrandMA3 Sequences and we work with a few different sequence settings as well.
    We are checking out some GrandMA3 speed masters for later when we start with the GrandMA3 Phaser programming.
    We build some simple Phaser effects, and we assign the GrandMA3 Phaser effects to the speedmasters.
    Finally we have a short introduction the GrandMA3 Timecode programming as the last thing in this tutorial.
    Please leave a comment if you have any questions for this tutorial, and let me know if you need me to explain anything better :-)

    Great information and very well presented. I am also taking the university course written by the software developer but your 102 minute course answered a lot of questions I had after watching the other course. Our church is awaiting the delivery of the GrandMA3 Control Wing but we've been told it is on eternal backorder. I'm thinking we will begin using GrandMA3 without the wing since it appears it's going to be awhile before we actually get it!

      It’s always nice to hear from someone who benefits from the tutorials on my channel.
      I haven’t tried the MA course myself so all the information in my tutorial is more or less “learning by doing” for me 😀 I am happy that you will start using it in your church already 👍
      What are you using to get your DMX out of the software until you get your wing?

    Is it possible to bypass the system requirements for the software? It refuses to start on my computer unless I have a quad-core CPU. In my experience, MA isn't nearly that resource-intensive and taking that control away from users just seems like lazy programming.

    • @Event-Lighting
      @Event-Lighting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Bucket. I have reached out to my local MA distributer today with your question - and they have contacted MA in Germany. The answer from the factory is that there will be a warning, saying that your computer does not meet the minimum requirements for running the GrandMA3 onPC software. BUT that does not mean that you wont be able to start the software, this is only for information. The software should run anyway. IF the software won’t start, then the problem lies somewhere else in your computer configuration. 😊

    In the Patching section of the tutorial, when you click Insert New Fixture, it brings up a box titled Select DMX Mode To Use. My OnPC installation doesn't do that. It just brings up the Insert New Fixtures box. Also, I cannot find the Group item when I search for it.

    • @chrissteele8910
      @chrissteele8910 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I've figured it out. I've been able to accomplish the same patching tasks, but the screens don't look the same. I'm working on 1.8 on PC, so I wonder if maybe they have changed it with a software update.

      Same also on 1.8. Searched for "Viper". Filled in the same details but now "Create" instead of "Apply". Screens look slightly different. Looks like maybe they combined all searches into one, and you can click the globe to enable the Shared online fixtures in your search also,, and you don't have to switch between fixture library types but search all at once.

    Hi, i do a lot of busting shows on the ma. I have one problem which i haven't found an answer to yet. Since i do busting i usually do everything from singe cue sequences and presets live, but when you start a movement cue and turn it off it doesn't seem to remember the preset so everything goes back to zero or last cue with a position and not the actual position. is it a way to fix this?

    • @Event-Lighting
      @Event-Lighting  ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to make your movement "relative" not "absolute" - Relative means that it start the movement on top of the position your fixtures are in, and when you stop the movement, it goes back to the same position.😀

      @benjaminaasen8922 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Event-Lighting
      @Event-Lighting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brooke. Is it ONLY the command line that are missing? Or is it the entire bottom section with the parameters (dimmer position etc. )
      1. Make sure that you are looking at screen 1.
      2. In the bottom on your CONTROL bar (the bar on the left in the screen where you access all your settings) - there is 2 small icons. Try to click them one at a time. One of them hides/unhides the entire bottom section.
      Write again if that doesn’t work. 😀

    • @Event-Lighting
      @Event-Lighting  ปีที่แล้ว

      Start with mounting a USB stick on your computer. Save ANY GrandMA3 show on the USB Stick, no matter what kind of show :-) After you have saved a show, there will be a new folder on the USB Stick called GRANDMA3. Inside the folder you will find 2 folders. "gma3_library" and "shared". If you open the "shared" folder, there will be 2 new folders. "backups" and "shows". Copy and paste YOUR show file into the SHOWS folder. NOW you can see the show in the grandMA3 software, if you select you USB stick in the top right corner of the BACKUP MENU in the GrandMA3 software. :-) Let me know if that helps you 🙂

    Iv never used a GrandMA in my life ...I use EOS lighting consoles as a in house Lx Operator in a Theater..But I must say I get everything you showed and presented ..The only thing I have question on is the Patching 1to1 512 is 1 universe ...is " The FID " is that the channel number and Patch is the Address number ....For example its so different on EOS programming... I would have a Chauvet LED ovations at DMX Address 400 with 18 channel and then have second Ovation 420 DMX Address...Third fixture DMX Address 440 with 18 channel so on and so on ...But with grandMA its like 1.400 1.418 1.436 ...I don't know if iv patched them correctly im just using PC version as a test to see where I get ...with EOS i can open up new show and go 1 thr 512 enter which gives me access to first universe . Then I can go 400 at 1/1 enter it give me 400 dmx on 512

    • @ShaneeyLX
      @ShaneeyLX ปีที่แล้ว +1

      also I love the way it says please instead of enter and TOP to go back to CUE1 in eos its " go to cue 0 " .. I'm defiantly impressed I will be watching rest of you're videos on GrandMA , cause I have 6 years experience using EOS i think I can get hang of GrandMA3 in a few weeks

    • @Event-Lighting
      @Event-Lighting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never used EOS consoles, so I don´t really know how they work, but I know that they are used a lot in theaters.
      Maybe you could tell us a little bit about how they work, and why they are used in theaters. Something must be easy with them; hence they are used so much in theaters? Maybe you could send e an email on my YT mail? You can find it in the about section.
      The number you put in front of the . (dot) is the UNIVERSE number, so if you patch something at 1.1 it´s universe 1, start address 1. If you patch multiple fixtures, the console will automatically give the next fixture the next available address. (You can change that if you want if you would like it to always jump 20 addresses)
      The FID is the "fixture ID". On GrandMA consoles, all fixtures must have a unique FID. That way you can always access any fixtures, with selecting “Fixture 1 @ full” or “fixture 1 thru 12 @ 0”
      Makes sense? 😊

    • @Event-Lighting
      @Event-Lighting  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the PLEASE and OOPS, are really funny 😊
      You can “GoTo” on GrandMA3 as-well - you decide for yourself what and how you can go from cue to cue.

      Hi Dommy. Just to make sure what you mean. It is the 3D that does not render the Sharpy correct? If that’s the case, you should start checking that your 3D settings are all at maximum. (See episode 7 - th-cam.com/video/P9uiTBWVe9Q/w-d-xo.html ) If they are all up, you should check your fixture profile. Make sure that you use a new GDTF fixture profile, and not one from the grandma2 library. (See episode 2 - th-cam.com/video/EjA2MX5v46c/w-d-xo.html ) Let me know if this works 😀

    Hello, my command line has been changed, now instead show me the USER/FIXTURE> it is showing me:
    USER@showdata/Livepatch/Stages/Stage 1/Fixtures>
    Anyone knows what is the shortcut to turn it back to the original?
