- For many people the single scull is something you get in right at the very start of your rowing journey - for me, it's come four-five years down the line! In this rowing vlog, I talk a little bit about my journey learning to single scull and hopefully provide a nice relaxing video to kill 6 minutes with!
A massive shout out to all of the people who have helped me learn to scull over the past few weeks - Benson, Emily, Celia, C2, & of course Max who's suffered every outing with me!
If you enjoyed the video please drop me a like and a subscribe - all of the support I receive is hugely appreciated - I make sure I read every single comment!

I am new to sculling too but trying to improve my technique over time. Few tips of what I can see in the video:
- Relax the grip on the handles. You are looking to unroll your knuckles to move from square to feathering and vice-versa. Try to keep your wrist flats at all time.
- You are disconnecting the bottoms of the oars (yellow part) from the gates at the finish of the stroke; that will throw off the balance. Try to keep the pressure against the gates; a good trick is to have your thumb at the end of the oar (as you have it) but also keep the pressure against the gate throughout the stroke.
- Try to keep both hands very close (almost touching) when they cross around half of the stroke.
thanks very much! I'll be sure to try and work on this in my next outing - I think the thumbs are a really big one. I think thatd help me stop getting stuck in at the finish
Nice Max, just relax! And then get the miles in. Looking forward to your square blade efforts with feet out!
I feel like that's definitely a recipe for more views - "I capsized" titled video!
I'm doing the same at the moment, crew rowing but singling too. My least favourite part of the programme but when it goes well it becomes my favourite!
There's so much to learn from being in a single - which is why I completelt agree with you! When it's going bad, i'ts really bad; when it's good, it's feels sooo good! 😂
Got that shoutout ive made it 💪
Where can l buy one like . I am from egypt
Aaaahhhh single sculling - terrifying at first but beautiful! Don't pause your hands at the finish - "hands keep moving" - mantra in my head.
Meanwhile - see you on tideway on Saturday? 😁
Thanks for the tips! Hope you had a good race
The struggle is real in the beginning. But, once you get it down it's heaven on water. It's how I escape the BS of the World. It's just me, and the water.
Max relax hold hold the sculls in your fingers drop your shoulders
Cheers Kevin - I'll give that a try!
This is not a good idea to row with this type of boat when you learn rowing there is another boat for learning.
