Welcome to the club Jack, I have had my 106 Rallye for 21 years now! That is a non standard manifold, the standard one also has a heat shield above it, keep an eye on water temps, as after market manifolds can overheat the rad. Water temp should be bang on middle of the dial. ECU cover is missing, can be still bought for £25ish, good luck finding a battery cover though! Have no idea what is going on with you gearstick, but needs investigating. Tyres are slightly over sized, OE fit was 175/60/14, not the 185’s u have on. PAS was an option on the S2 Rallye, mine has it. I agree with your assessment of the Bilstein B8’s I also found them slightly too firm, the OE spec Bilstein B4’s are a little firmer than the factory dampers but soft enough to still retain the character of the car. Different engine mounts also significantly change the character of the car, I returned my to standard mounts in the end and love it. Lastly, thumps up on Matt at Pug1off, he does an awesome job on Pugs, including mine! Enjoy the car, you will!

I was lucky enough to own one of these from new. I ran it for about 45k miles and loved every minute of it. The only mod I did was to fit a Momo steering wheel. Such a pure driving experience - special and fun at any speed. I'm looking forward to seeing how you get on with yours!

Aah 106 was one of my favourite cars. Along with the 205 and Elise. This channel is turning into a back catalogue of my old cars, outside the the German stuff. And that broken red thing you own.

You've kind of hit the nail on the head - specifically that most of the "improvements" that everyone says you need to put on a car, usually make it worse. By this I mean: short-shift kits, lower, stiffer springs and shocks, wider wheels and tires. Stuff like that just makes the car less comfortable, the controls heavier and adds effort and notchiness to shifting.

Best car of the fleet so far 😃 Once the extraneous and weighty plastic buttons and trims fall off they are reliable and great fun, and yeah mine went in the boot seams. With Dellorto twins they made a great noise and a bit more fizz. The interior spec apart from front seats and coverings is one from the base diesel

I also owned a new first edition Rally and I loved it to bits, literally. I was speeding like a lunatic around a long bend and as I unwisely came off the throttle it snapped 180 on me in a fraction of a second and slammed backwards into a rock wall, it did a 360 backward, lengthwise flip and and landed on its wheels back on the road. As I came to I realised my torso was sticking out of the rear hatch and my hair was on fire as the fuel filler cap had shot off in the impact and ignited the fuel. The forces were so strong that my body exiting the cabin warped both front seats and my head smashed through the rear windscreen, I slid out of the rear hatch and the first thing I could see was my phone in the middle of the road, as I went to pick it up another car ran straight over it.

I was the driver of the car that ran over your phone. Sorry!

    • @marlonsorken1707
      @marlonsorken1707 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I had overtaken quite a few cars before leaving the road backwards, as they crept past the scene of my accident I suspect most of them were delighted at my misfortune, boy-racer idiot that I was.

I had a 106 gti in the same colour scheme 20 years ago, brilliant little car which gave me some of the best fun and memories I have.
Engine mounts were a weak point, I had to change mine after only 1 year ownership. I put the same little suede sparco snap off steering wheel
K & n steel quick shift kit and gear knob and air intake, red stuff brake pads, sports ecu which made it a mad lumpy at idle, and the previous owner had fitted a stainless sports exhaust.... Brilliant fun!

Excellent choice Jack. My 12 yo son and I bought a 205 Si (Aussie market model) and converted it into a 205 Rallye as we never got them here in Australia. It has been a blast, I ended up buying a 306 Rallye for my 18yo daughter as well! I think the Rallye has the TU engine not the XU engine which the 205 Rallye also had but with Webers. Those roads look familiar too, from Harry's garage, I bet he would jump out of some of his cars to get a spin in your Rallye! Cheers Steve in Sydney

    • @pugpete1

It is indeed a TU(5J2). The s1 is the better engine by far (TU2J2), but they are both amazing cars.

These were hugely popular here in Greece, street furniture, most were modded to high heaven, the basics were scoop type air intake, manifold, remove the catalyst, free flow exhaust + chip. Most were wrapped around trees… today on the rare occasion you’ll see one, they’re completely standard specs. Titbit, the Greek versions were all air conditioned

Lovely wee car. I would point anyone interested in a hot hatch bargain (which these aren't anymore) at a first generation Suzuki Swift Sport. 125bhp and awesome handling- used to have tons of fun getting mine to oversteer through tight bends.

I drove a 1.5D 106 as a company car in london for 2 years and although that had power steering it felt like it didnt. My 106 was always getting broken in to, both doors had the key barrels pried out leaving a lovely hole in the door. The engine mount on mine sheered off the chassis. It never liked to start and it snapped clutch cables regularly. But now i own a partner and the 1.5hdi has been the most reliable engine ive ever done 100000 miles on. I do miss the size of my 106 i could park it anywhere

There's a tweek on these with the front strut mounting holes in the strut tops. Being constructed such that
if rotated 90deg.they produce a higher degree of neg.camber.

I owned a red series 1. Loved it. So much fun. Someone had butchered it and fitted some horrendous fox alloys and de-badged it etc. First thing I did was buy it a fresh set of Michellin steels and original decals direct from Peugeot. Real drivers experience. I would have one again over so much... no actually all of the bloated modern machinery we see today. Enjoy.

Great choice. The S1 was used in a one make race series in NZ in the 90s. They were called the Clubsport but were actually a Rallye (complete with decals). Peugeot NZ gave them a chip, some minor suspension upgrades and 2 sets of wheels and tyres a bolt in roll cage and race seats. You also got the original interior to turn it back into a road car. Quite a few successful NZ racing drivers cut their teeth in this series and there are still a few being campaigned today. We have one of these cars in the shed and it's a favourite to take out for a good strop in the countryside.

Welcome to the 106 club. Be sure you will enjoy every single mile in it. I bet the first thing you ll change after the bisteins is the low geared manual steering rack for a hydraulic. If you find a s2 rallye specific one

What a cool, fun car. We never had these in Canada and you're right, those white steelies are the cat's pyjamas! Enjoy

Jack an easy way to reduce the boom is to buy stick on soundproofing and put it under the carpets and behind the trim panels next to the back seat. It is cheap and easy as the soundproofing is in rectangular panels and can be cut with scissors, because it is under the carpet and behind trim it just need to cover rather than being neet. It should be very easy to take apart the interior, soundproofing transformed my old Citroen AX.

Congratulations on the ‘new’ Pug! Very nice addition to the garage. Good luck with the (inevitable) repairs ;p
