Cassie was a Mary Sue girlboss. imo It should've been Takeda to have beaten Shinnok as a better pick out of the Kombat Kids, I would've had him gain his telekinetic powers from his father in the final fight to defeat Shinnok. It's such wasted potential with the storytelling of this series since MKX.

Honestly it started when Sindel wiped the whole cast one by one lined up. They weren't able to write out of that properly or even write it properly. Characters just lined up to die. They should have died in other battles give the villains some Ws.

I would assume the story wouldnt advance since the base game gives us Raiden proving he is the "defender of earthrealm" but in the first trailer we got he gets put in a body bag trying to defend earthrealm
Don't forget sektor has "plans" for the lin kuei's obedience: Cyber Lin Kuei... and add onto that list with Onaga is tamed
Should have been called Girl Boss Reigns. I couldn't believe it ended so quickly. All this build up, then bam, just ends. Why did Scorpion call Cyrax GrandMaster after inviting her to join, what?!?!?! Jesus, and the worst thing they did, the absolute worst thing imaginable was what they did to Bi Han. He was Noob Saibot for one fight, "embracing chaos" then gets smacked on the head and is suddenly good guy redeemed Bi Han. And Sub Zero still didn't get any buffs.....
On another note, guess we were right about the season of the Huntress. The designs were taken straight from Havik's Khaos minions. Lying NRS lazy bastards. Controversy confirmed true.
Scorpion was correcting Cyrax to refer to him as Grandmaster since he invited her to join the Shirai Ryu

I don't recall where bi han was redeemed? He was still the same sub zero beefing with everyone by the end, he just wasn't on havik's side anymore. Also scorpion wasn't calling her grandmaster he was correcting her.

My stepson and I played through this last night. Mk1 story is garbage, but it's our garbage. The time spent with him was the ONLY value i gained.
A good example that any game can be fun if you play it with the right people.

This story reeked of Marvel inspired writing that I was waiting for Havik to say "I love anarchy 3000!" I so badly want John Tobias to have this franchise again.

This whole game story is just a marvels MCU Multiversal collapse response from Mortal Kombat 1. That's all it is. It's so many references to marvel I can point out similarities

Honestly dog. It’s not even the best invasion story. I thought the first one w Scorpion searching the timelines for one where his wife is alive was dope tbh
Remember when Kuai said "Sektor and Cyrax's loyalty to Bi-Han is absolute." at the end of the og story? Yet Cyrax in her bio and all throughout this dlc is described and shown as a free thinker that doesn't follow orders blindly. So, why didnt Kuai just oh i dont know, not ran away and instead return to the Lin Kuei and explain everything that happened? He was the previous Grandmasters son too, im sure Cyrax and other members would have listened to him. Yet he ran away without a word to his clan and established a new clan in Japan and then is surprised when the Lin Kuei crash his wedding and has the audacity to be mad at Cyrax who btw also saved Harumi from death. Literally all of this drama and death could have been prevented if he just returned to the Lin Kuei and attempted to stop Bi-Han from spreading his influence. But no, we gotta have the Shirai Ryu exist even if its origin is rushed and makes no sense whatsoever. This is just one of the many things that make zero sense in this garbage story.
I've been saying this since the first part of the story. Kuai Liang didn't even try, despite the fact that Smoke said he would be made grand master.
In the new intros, it's revealed that many Lin Kuei have left to join the Shirai Ryu and Cyrax says that there are people on Sektor's staff that will secretly maintain her stolen armor.
My favorite part of the storymode is when Cyrax blames Scorpion for her gullibleness and when he calls her out for it she then says, "I'm not a robot. I'm human." No baby, you're gullible and Scorpion was right to be upset at you for believing what his brother said about him despite you knowing what type of person he is. It's a shame Cyrax never take any real accountability.
If that's what Kuai said then that's what he believes.
Doesn't really matter what other info in the game you've read or what you think you have personally observed.
Story was a total let down. I basically paid 50 bucks for noob Saibot 😅
Pretty much, folks have talked bad about the MK Stories since MKX but this is the first time I felt underwhelmed by the climax of the story.. like That’s it?

@@lordshura9717 NRS has gone SOFT! Another thing I noticed is where the hell was Smoke? You only see him during the wedding but other than that that's it. He's one of the best fighters isn't he? so why isn't he fighting?? Shao and Shang were nowhere to be seen, I understand that they're still plotting against Liu Kang but it's also still their timeline. So wouldn't they at least want to fight against havik as well to protect themselves? Makes sense right? I feel like they could have done so much more. It was very lackluster. And definitely a money grab in my opinion

This isn’t me defending the terrible writing, but a symptom of the multiverse BS, and a reason I don’t like multiverse content, is because it does exactly what you point out: it has no respect or consistency or power scaling.
I actually make fun of people that care a lot about the “who would win” debates online because I always refer to Stan Lee’s take on it. The writers decide who wins. If a writer wants Thor to lose to The Punisher that is what will happen. To me, good writing is not about who wins, it’s about how a character loses. And you have great examples of what I mean with Jin or Ryu losing. The portrayal of a character is integral to their position within a narrative.
This is a long comment for me but I’m very passionate about this topic because I have goals to be a fantasy writer myself. I’ve been studying and reading material around it for years, and I knew better than to think Chaos Reigns was going to fix any of the issues that started all the way back in MK11 from the story perspective. I also want to highlight that a big difference between the state of MK1 and the state of SF6 right now is the approach to DLC characters.
Terry Bogard just released and is being universally praised as an excellent addition to the SF6 roster. Why is that? Surely it can’t be because the character represents 3 decades of fighting game legacy, and was handled with the utmost care and love and passion and RESPECT to the source material? Comparing that to f***ing Ghostface being tossed into the fray of MK and it just exemplifies that lack of understanding of the characters. A dood with a knife is supposed to fight literally anyone in this roster? Really? Rambo minus the guns. It is, as you always say, SHAMBOLIC.
To make the story more rational, they have to ditch their current story chapter system
No more "character chapters" and just have it be regular story chapters

It does limit them a lot when the character you play as has to win, cuz if you're playing as a character for 3-4 fights each then they're winning damn near every encounter. Play as Raiden in the beginning and he stomps everyone, play as someone else and have them fight Raiden and he stomps Raiden, then have you play as Raiden again for one fight and a guy who just beat the guy who beat Raiden get his shit rocked by Raiden. No consistent power scaling or anything, just mashing action figures together

It ended like a Wet Fart. The problem with Mk1 towards the end of each story is that the pacing picks up of massive speed. All this things happening and the conclusion is just anti climatic

That DLC was awful the writers at NRS are lower than amateurs. There so much to say but Cyrax they tried TOOOO hard to make her the morally good character like bitch you disobeyed orders and became grandmaster Sector is a simp and loves Bi Han where did that come from Fire God is a idiot. Johnny cage once again there for corny one liners that stopped being funny after MK9 completely random character that are married like rain and Tanya this ain’t Naruto with the relationships. Titan havik having a freaking Gameshow for them to just breeze by while they all watch. Bi-Han is once again stupid. No smoke going with them to the other world even though he is their brother. Terrible writing along with awful plans. Havik having the power of pretty much the infinity stones and still losing to his own creation LMAO! Geras is a plot device and since when can they just casually visit other timelines like driving over to the next state. People getting killed and beaten up at a wedding and they cracking jokes like it’s not funny anymore. There is so much more but NRS need to be stripped of MK and sold off because they are awful at everything the MK name carrying everything over there and they even used the same dialogue from other games they can’t even have characters use different words taking lines from injustice and putting them here. RIP TO THE WALLETS THAT PAID FOR THIS RUBBISH the only decent thing is it’s short and that’s not even a good thing but it was good because the writing was terrible.
That scene where sub zero stares down Havik and his minions, I was hell yea finally gonna see sub zero going bad ass on them,even those he was gonna get captured,but no next scene is just them dragging him in chains,what a let down.
I had to contain my laughter. They really hate Sub Zero in that office.

It was just a character arc tale for "Sektor" & "Cyrax" with Havik thrown in as an afterthought so there would be an antagonist of sorts. Want proof? The story begins with them & it ends with them. That's the arc. It makes me sad that the original Sektor & Cyrax, two beloved characters, have basically been erased from history & replaced by 2 wannabe boss babes whom we are being forced to care about. Even Johnny Cage is forced to simp for Sektor by telling her how awesome & beautiful she is. Neither of them would last 5 seconds in combat without their iron man suits, yet both of them are made Grandmasters.
The Noob defeating Titan Havik is the same level as Cassie beating Shinnok with power of green glow.
Girlbossing Emperor Tanya, Raiden being a nerd, we got no Sub-Zero from now on, Wakanda Cyrax, Liu Kang being a literal god getting his ass kicked. This story is so ass, I’m happy I didn’t pay for any of this.
Only I can say that Noob and Sektor are fun to play from the tournaments I’ve seen. But 50 bucks for expansion upgrade is just too much. It is indeed terrible.
I’ll wait for Ultimate edition on the biggest sale with a biggest discount probably.
They will reset timeline once again, just wait. But first this games will be put on ice until all this WOKE, DEI and SBI era is over

Kronika wasn't from one timeline she is like the main god but all the things that happened created all the other timelines, and each one now has their own version of Kronika.

Netherrealm storytelling in a nutshell, the most powerful characters are the chapters

I have a lot to say about this pile of crap! First of all, Noob losing to Tanya is ridiculous! And I actually prefer this Tanya/Rain over the Umgadi Tanya. After all that hype about how he’s this new and improved creation from Havik, not only does he lose to f*ckin Tanya, but we only get a few seconds of brother v brother which was the matchup a lot of people were waiting for.
That’s the matchup we should’ve played with as Scorpion being the one you use to defeat Noob or Noob beating Scorpion. And where the hell is current timeline Havik? What does he have to say about all of this? The whole Cyrax/Sektor thing I didn’t care about and Cyrax somehow becoming Grandmaster is stupid. This was bad and a huge waste of money.
And this proves that NRS really hates Bi Han, even though he somehow beat Titan Havik powered up by the kamidogu after taking a bunch of Ls smh
At this point this story just needs to end because this whole Liu Kang new era has been a flop. Bring back the OG storyline
This Havik in Liu Kangs New Era is apparently Dairou impersonating Havik, for some reason…. That’s why in this timeline he’s from Orderrealm and has Darius as his buddy, yet him being Dairou is only brought up in like a single intro dialogue and nowhere else so it’s just such a stupid and silly change, we already got an identity swap/character merge with Kuai Liang becoming Scorpion.
Also, Cyrax didn’t become Grandmaster, Scorpion only corrected her and was telling her to call him that

story was written by baby inc,nrs screwed up long time ago,to me mk is dead to me.
It feels wierd without a God of thunder and protector of Earthrealm, we hardly see Raiden who’s the new Earthrealm champion in the story. We see more Liu Kang envolved who’s envolved in timelines as Keeper of time, who’s no longer a secret kept, it’s public news in outworld or atleast is known by the elites in Outworld such as Sindel and her closer people, and ex members as General Shao.
NRS and MK has gone full woke intersectional feminist girlboss simulator. Muh Queen this, muh Empress that, lets gender swap Cyrax and Sektor just because we want women to become the grand ma'amsters of the ninja clans. Hell they even gender swapped the dragon Orin. This DLC is the MK version of Concord the only thing missing is the pronouns. MK is dead.

I missed old mortal Kombat this new shit actually makes me sad about the series I grew up on. Tekken did it right by letting us pick who we want to play as in the story during the tournament section

man, im so sad to see MK in this state, MK1 is the first MK that i didnt buy on PC and i have no regrets. Sometimes i do find myself thinking about buying it, but then i remember the awful story, the kameos, the awful costumes and redesigns, and I snap back to reality.
I'm in the same boat, dude. This is the first MK in the entire series (spin offs included) that I completely sat out on and I do not regret it whatsoever. This is embarrassing
The story just needs to be a CGI 2 hour movie. Remove the silly chapters forcing us to win with characters that shouldn't be winning. That might help the story make more sense. On a side note Noob losing makes sense because Liu Kang says it will take him a while to get used to his new abilities.

This was just a poor man's Marvel Infinity War and Endgame...again. they literally did the same thing before in the previous game MK11 and the Aftermath story expansion.
They want that MCU money so badly.
The story wasn't strung together properly, I agree. It's like they had these ideas that needed to be connected, but then they forgot to take a step back and consider situational details. Like, Liu Kang was just standing around way too often, doing nothing at all. They present him as the Creator of the universe, which I already think is blasphemous nonsense, and he's supposedly super calm and wise, but when sht goes down, Liu Kang doesn't act right. He turns into a background character. Why? Because. Just because. If he actually behaves in accordance with his new-found position and he responds to events properly, then a lot of what they're trying to achieve on-screen simply wouldn't work.
You see him doing Kung Fu karate kicks and spinning flips and sht, as if he's just another random Shaolin monk. He's fighting insignificant minions as Geras is losing a tug-o-war, and actually having issues with them. Why can't he do some extra moves? The situation calls for it. Why is he throwing jabs and hooks when the existence of the multiverse is at stake?
And so they dumb him down, drastically, to the point where he isn't just not very wise, but he ends up looking foolish and pathetic. When he's fighting Havik, I think, during the third act, Liu Kang gets knocked out. You see him going down, and he just lies there in a little corner, like a twat. I laughed out loud when they did that. "Where's Lord Liu Kang; the creator of the entire universe?" It's like; "O he's over there, lying in the corner 'cause someone punched him in the face really hard."
Liu Kang ain't sht in these games. Look, at some point he gives Sektor and Scorpion and Cyrax the box with the Kamidogu, and they're going to take the box to a safe location. Havik shows up, and he just takes the box. No problemo. Liu Kang is like "well, that backfired", and I honestly thought that Liu Kang was going to smirk, and it turns out that the box didn't actually contain the real Kamidogu. I thought that was going to happen. A plot-twist! Liu Kang anticipated all potential outcomes, planned for the worst, and acted accordingly (you know, being wise and all that). But no, the box contained the Kamidogu, and now Havik has them back. Liu Kang's a dummy. He's even worse than Raiden has ever been.
The story had some cool ideas, however. Like you said, the Orin part was alright, and they were trying to do a Running Man segment, which almost worked, but these are like isolated good ideas that may or may not have been executed sufficiently, and the story as a whole is just kinda goofy. And the dialogue writing was horrendous. You're rolling your eyes and smacking your forehead way too often.
Sektor keeps criticizing Scorpion, even though she knows that Bi Han is basically guilty of patricide, and he plotted to assassinate his brother on his wedding day. Why he wants to do this; I'm really not sure. It's not like Kuai Liang did something to elicit that. He left the Lin Kuei. So what? Would Bi Han rather have him nearby, knowing that he condemned his actions and doesn't respect him as a leader? In the process, a lot of innocent people perish, and Sektor is still yappin' about honor and respect. Bi Han is as immoral a character as they come. Sektor is too, for going along with all of that on her own volition. And she's dumb, thinking that she's safe with a guy who's perfectly willing to kill his own family members. Bi Han betrayed both Outworld as well as Earthrealm in the first story. So Mileena was absolutely right for wanting to execute him for his crimes. But then Liu Kang steps in and takes pity on those who, in any normal situation, really wouldn't deserve any pity. I mean, this isn't some 'mistake' he made. Bi Han is a psychopathic lunatic who really should be removed from power, to prevent future 'mistakes' (i.e. mass murdering people at weddings, and siding with enemies during an existential crisis).
Also, technically speaking, there's no more Sub-Zero in the game as of now.
I hate this version of Bi-Han so much. Even if someone thinks that Bi-Han was always evil, he wasn't like this. This Bi-Han is antagonistic for the sake of it. Some people claim he's just ambitious, but nothing he does towards his ambitions makes sense. And what exactly does he want anyway? Yes, I know he wants to help lead Earthrrealm and he wants the Lin Kuei to have more action and recognition, but what does that fully mean?
And the fact that Liu Kang told him his desires weren't the problem shows that Bi-Han didn't even try a diplomatic approach with Liu Kang beforehand. Which means he would be terrible at ruling Earthrrealm.

He just wants power. He wants to be the top guy. During his Noob Saibot segment in the story's final act, he keeps dissing Liu Kang, even physically pushing him aside. In his Noob Saibot form, he's even worse. Now he has more power, and the stronger he becomes, the more disrespectful towards Liu Kang, who's standing in his way of dominating Earthrealm. I don't understand why he wasn't put down already. Even when he wasn't Noob Saibot yet; they should've ended him on account of his severe crimes. His heinous ambitions include ruthless methods that Liu Kang should've punished. Notice that Liu Kang threatens Sektor when she becomes the Lin Kuei's temporary Grandmaster; don't do anything rash, or there will be consequences!! Not very convincing when he let's this madman Bi Han run around, and even keeps his Noob Saibot version around, trying to help him recover. It's all nonsensical. You know what's missing in all of this? A proper protagonist. We have two antagonists; Havik and Noob, but there's no real protagonist in all of this. Cyrax has her little arch, and Scorpion's more of a pawn in Cyrax' redemption arch than an actual opposite to Bi Han. Then they suddenly introduce Empress Tanya, but she isn't the story's protagonist. Liu Kang sure as hell isn't. I don't know what they were trying to accomplish, thinking about it. It's like there's somewhat of a Bi Han redemption attempt, but he's just doing whatever he wants when he regains his mind as Noob Saibot. Nothing changes. He's still massively immoral. Sigh.. I don't know. I'm going to have to replay it again and pay closer attention to really form an opinion, but I agree with Mike; the story isn't good. Just how bad it really is; I'd need a second playthrough for that.

In the story mode Liu Kang confirms that Bi-Han becoming some kind of Emperor is technically okay, but his actions are hypocritical and he’s clearly putting barriers in place to avoid having the Lin Kuei take up power. Whether or not these are for noble reasons are irrelevant. Bi-Han is completely correct, Liu Kang has been running his life the entire time and he doesn’t want to be in HIS shadow. How ironic it is that Bi-Han killed his father due to the direction that the Lin Kuei were going in, just to find out that it was all LIU Kangs literal power and influence. What people are missing is that Bi-Han is STILL fighting his father.
@Brollyssweetface NRS decided to make him extremely hot-headed out of nowhere. He is supposed to be very level-headed and cold in the original timeline, which ends up getting him killed.
If only they wrote something like that, where he manages to get the upper hand on Liu Kang by allying with Havik but it backfires and he becomes Noob Saibot instead.

While mortal kombat has never been the pinnacle of story telling, it too a SHARP SHAAAAAAAAAAAARP downturn after 10. At least 9 and 10 didnt pretend to be anything more than ridiculous fun comic book stories with over the top characters with some admittedly decent writing moments (as far as fighters go), but it felt like since 11, they just started taking themselves more seriously, but it's still written by people who aren't that amazing at writing serious stories. So it's just a mess, they don't have a good direction anymore, they dont understand tone, or what MK so endearing in the first place. They just went full hollywood.
Hit the nail on the head. There's a lot of fighting game stories that aren't amazing but they don't take themselves too seriously and you can clearly see the Devs are trying to have fun with it. MK takes itself very seriously and it's so unserious 😂

1- He decides for some reason, to bring Cyrax along on the attack on Kuai Liangs wedding. Even though he knows she is rebellious and suspicious of him.
2- He gives her the corniest villian speech and proceeds to wakandas super soldier in a fight.
3- Then he doesn't escape, gets captured and taken to outworld along with Sektor. Then when he encounters Havik, who absolutely bodies everyone that took him hostage, what does Bi Han do? OH YEAH, LET ME JUMP INTO THAT PORTAL WITH MY 22 FRAME OVERHEAD!
4- Then we get a scene of him staring down Havik and his minions... could this be a Sub Zero chapter? Where he gets established as an actual threat and not the most stereotypical toxic male in a feminists nightmare. Nope, no epic fight scene. Cut to him getting dragged to his torture and change into Noob Saibot...

I dont understand why NRS made Bi Han into Noob Saibot in this game. He doesn't really do anything or affects the plot in any way. He is evil Noob or Chaos Noob for one fight, loses, and then is suddenly on Earthrealms side. He's basically the same Bi Han personality wise. He just has Noobs powers. So what was the point of making him into Noob? He could have stayed as Bi Han and the story would have played out basically the same. It feels like NRS put him in the story as a lazy excuse to sell to us.

invasions is so terrible i deleted mk1 again; i'm drained from bullshit. This game blows, i've tried and tried to give it a chance but honestly that want you to circle jerk yourself over and over again just to get rewarded.

I think my favorite part is when they steal the kamidogi, and immediately after Liu Kang lets Scorpion as Cyrax walk out with them by themselves for some reason, you hear Cyrax on the radio or whatever and they cut to a scene outside and he just has the box back. I stopped caring about the MK1 story as soon as the multiverse/time travel angle came back, and I still am amazed by how bad the writing was.

I was neutral on most of this....until Noob's chapter. Bi-Han is still an asshole to the end, AND also just...no diffs a Titan Havik POWERED BY KAMIDOGU??? Not only that, the game tries to paint Kuai Liang like a dick, even though he got an invasion on his wedding day by the same brother who let his father die, berates his adoptive brother for EVERYTHING, betrays his realm and has an ego the size of UY Scuti. But yes, Kuai and Tomas are at fault for not talking to anyone. I liked Cyrax, she felt believable as a character, and I hope they do more with her. Bi-Han's character really f'd shit up, and its got me wishing he just never was alive in the first place.
Since they have been doing all that Multiverse nonsense. They should have added all 1990's Mortal Kombat Movie versions of the characters in the story mode. Even how bad the story is, That would have me jumping up and down. How could they not think of something like that???

Man, I actually hate how Scorpion and Bi-Han are essentially jobbers. They deserved better and this timeline sucks.
O ya don’t forget one of the biggest contradictions to this story was when Lui Kang told Bi Han to not kill Havik because he doesn’t know how far Havik is connected to his universe life which could kill everyone in it and he doesn’t want kill millions of people, but yet in the last story line you had that battle of the titans and everyone killed each other on the pyramid, so essentially everyone in every other universe was killed. Make it make sense! At this point it’s just funny how stupid the logic is in this games story. I think some characters like baraka, reptile, and lei mei got good chracter development, but the overal story is poorly written and convoluted. I wish I would have known you can purchase the characters individually earlier on because at least the gameplay is still okay, but seriously at this point they need to just completely give MK a break for a few years and hopefully a new team comes in to make a better game or go to a different company at this point.
On the credit scenes, the music rap music very sucks really bad. They need to take that music off the game. I’m so sick of that. Stupid rap music that rap music is awful. I am sorry if people are getting defended.
