- Most Famous Wurlitzer Electric Piano Intros
I have recorded the Wurlitzer straight to my Apollo Twin.
I used UAD Fender 55 Tweed Deluxe for the Jamiroquai tune and a bit of reverb for the Supertramp tune

There's never a bad time for Mercy, Mercy, Mercy.
🎹🎹🙌
"Bloody Well Right" pretty well woke me up one bleary-eyed Saturday morning after a party with some friends. Until that point, they had had all the fun, but that intro is what makes the Wurlitzer for me.
Noted for the part 2 video :) thanks 🙏
I actually have a song book with tons if famous keyboard intros on it. And that's one of the intros. I think it's by Mel Bay Publishing. They released several books with pop rock transcriptions of keyboard intros, solos, and accompaniments. You can Google search for them and probably find some for sale somewhere.
It's Stevie's 'I Wish' for me.
Thank you. I learned something in that I thought Bloody Well Right, a favourite of mine, was played on a Rhodes!
A Donald Fagen video interview brought me here❤
whats the title of the book? :)
You nailed that Beck track "Where it's At" 😃😃👍👍🔥🔥
Glad you like it 🎹
Two more: "Bloody Well Right"--Supertramp ; "Little Birdie"---Vince Guaraldi 😎🎹🎹🎹🎹 Awesome sound and awesome playing!!
Noted ! Thank you 🙏🎹
Pretzel Logic, Black Friday, other tunes I know well. I played in a Steely Dan cover band. I'd love to play Supertramp all day; i know a lot of those tunes. My nephew kinda appropriated my original, 1982 Fender Rhodes stage Mark II 73 key EP (but he's got a studio). But i got a Yamaha S90-es, so I have all those patches and more. Think funky clavinet, DX-7, about 50 organ patches, every damn thing. I really need a gig!
Hope to get a gig soon 🎹
I just listened to this straight after the Fender Rhodes one - while I was impressed with the hit songs on that, my old favourite Wurly takes the cake for more hit songs I know and like here - yas !
Glad you like it 🙏🎹
Thanks for posting this. It seems the one thing these songs have in common is a killer bass part. There is this "certain something" about the Wurlie bass tone.
Thank you for watching 🙏🎹
"I Wish" was played on a Rhodes. It was an older, worn out Rhodes so its sound was a little rougher around the edges so it's understandable how it could be confused for a Wurlitzer.
Yes you are right!
Right. That's what I was going to say. Rhodes.
some Ray Manzarek's vibe there! Well played!
🙏🎹🎵
Zawinul kills it on Mercy Mercy.
🙌🎹
🤍 luv it 🙌 great choices and playing as per usual.
Thank you for the support my friend! Really appreciate it 🎹🖤
Such a beautiful rich tone 👌😁☮
thank you! glad you like it 🎹
'I heard it through the grapewine' 👍
🙌🎹
Yes! 🔥 Great sounding Wurli and fantastic playing as always👍 Love those "I Wish"-chords 🕺
Thanks Benjamin, just fixed it and i ve made the video… it was very noisy before :)
Very cool; thanks.
Glad you liked it!
Great playing and sounds. Definitely going to learn some of these songs!
Thanks David! 🙏🎹
@@NicolasMelis Especially cool the Jamiroquai sound through the amp sim! ;)
@@davidfalconmusic yeah! Love that intro… didnt quite nailed the sound but oh well 😁
@@NicolasMelis Sounds amazing as is :D
@@davidfalconmusic thanks man, appreciated!
Excellent!
Glad you liked it!🎹
Your playing is excellent! Thanks for posting, I really enjoy this, and getting an education on what songs use what keyboard 👍
Thank you very much! appreciated 🎹🙏
This has given me a new appreciation for that voice on my piano❤
Your playing is top notch too🫶🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🎹🎹🎹
Thank you 🙏🎹
Brilliant 🎶
Thank you 🙌🎹
@@NicolasMelis Welcome 🎶
Great stuff !!!!
Thank you!!
👏👏👏 This is very good! 👏👏👏
Thank you very much Lee🎹🙏
Thanks - excellent job!
Part 2: "Jeans On" - David Dundas
Side thought: the Wurly on Abba's "Knowing Me, Knowing You" is fantastic! Sounds like it's run through a big reverb, FOLLOWED by a phaser. Absolute genius production IMHO.
Noted thank you 🙏🎹
Killer compilation! Love it that A200 sound. I have a student model (no tremolo) but add it with a pedal
Thank you! Glad you like it 🎹
Thanks for including Cannonball!
Glad you like it 🎹
Remember Me With Kindness by Gentle Giant - Wurlitzer or Fender Rhodes? Neither. Piano!!! Great intro and song throughout.
I was in a band 10 years ago, we did I Wish - keyboard was a Korg of 1000 voices. I was playing bari sax. My own Roland VR09 has several EP patches but none really have the right sound. One of these days I’ll try running it thru a chorus or something.
Re: Supertramp. Goodbye Stranger is my old Freedom Song from back in 79.
Never played a Roland VR09, is it good?
nice
Thank you 🙏🎹
One of my favorites was Breakdown by Tom Petty. Glad you had Where its At
Glad you like it 🎹
Great Video :D
I only missed Vulfpeck - Soft Parade
Thanks! Oh thats a great tune! I think i have to do a part 2 video 😁
@@NicolasMelis and of course the Vulf Intro itself!!! :D
Yes 🎹
And outtro to come together 🥂🎶
Noted for the part 2 video thanks
You forgot the best of all: I'm the warlus. Very, very serious!
yep i know :) unfortunately i got a copyright for that one and had to take it off…. great song and great wurli sound
That was played on a Hohner, not a Wurlitzer. It almost sounds the same, though.
This is a kickin’ list. Honorable mention for a song that doesn’t begin with a Wurlitzer piano but include some very impressive Wurlitzer stylings before the vocal kicks in: “Top of the World - Carpenters.
Did Donald Fagen play the piano parts of Black Friday on both Wurlitzer and Rhodes?
Have to check that out!! Thanks 🙏
My pleasure, Nicolas.
Came here to say that... Richard Carpenter played Wurlitzers EP exclusively, but usually it was embedded in the songs, except "Top of the World"
Not to be a spoilsport, but "I Wish" is clearly a Rhodes ;)
Yeah, i know :)
I don’t mind sharing that there was (at least) one instance when I mistook a Rhodes piano for a Wurlitzer piano. That was off of my first classic Chicago song, “Feelin’ Stronger Every Day”. That demonstrated for me how it’s possible to get one of them to sound like the other (if only in the middle of the pitch range), if not vice versa.
The Queen sounded amazing man! All killer!
Glad you like it 🙏🎹
Imagine my surprise when I now see this LOL...
😁😁🎹
Intro to Joni's Woodstock?
It was very popular in the 70’s and 60’s.the guess who theas eyes.
🙌🎹
god yes
🙏🎹
I've always thought You're My Best Friend was played on a Pianet. But I could be wrong about that.
I saw online it was on a Wurlitzer but not 100% sure
Me gustaría escuchar el lady sunday de small Faces que también tocaban este teclado muy característico de ellos incluso cuando fueron the faces...
...AND virtually anything by the Youngbloods
BLOODY WELL RIGHT = SUPERTRAMP / RIDERS OF THE STORM = The Doors
perhaps it was a fender but it deserve a honorable mention
Supertramp is a wurli will incl it on the part 2 video! The doors its a rhodes i have it on my rhodes video
another one to mention: "mama told me not to come" by randy newman, in the versions by three dog night or by tom jones with stereophonics.
Oh yes!! Noted thanks
Awesome video, i personally think Dancing in the moonlight should be there but anyways, it's still awesome
Btw i really wonder why Stevie never used The Wurlitzer
Thank you!! Dancing in the moonlight is with a wurlitzer?
@@NicolasMelis Yes, if you compare the song playing it with a rhodes it sounds different
It's hard to get the pulse in Logical Song right. Roger doesn't do it staccato like that but more legato, he releases the keys only half for the next pulse. The accents are on 1, 4 and 7 where the others are much softer. Again hard to get right and I haven't seen anyone do it properly.
WHAT?! No Ride Captain Ride? Great job anyway Nicolas.
Noted for the part 2 video :) thanks 🙏
WHERE ITS AT!
Nice!
Yes 🎹
Technically Mercy, Mercy, Mercy was written by Joe Zawinul, but originally performed with Cannonball so I'll allow it ;) If you put down that it was a Jozy song people would have complained you didn't say Cannonball lol.
Yes 😁🎹
Hey Nicolas, I really enjoyed hearing your version of Mercy Mercy Mercy. I don't know if you write sheet music or do video tutorials, but I would love to learn how to play it like this!!! All of the sheet music I was able to find was stale and boring :(
Glad you like it ! Its just how i play it with my band:) don’t have a music sheet or a tutorial video unfortunately never thought of making one :)
@@NicolasMelis aight fam Imma just slow it down to 50 and figure it out. Got the first section done already :)
@@joetessy cool :)
Hey Arnold vibes
Great, but you forgot The Zombies ~ She's Not There.
Thanks! Noted :)
My 200a don't sound like that but it don't sound out of tune either. I'm not sure if it's tuned differently or if it's the fact that I can't play as good as you.
i think every one sounds a bit different than the other :)
Where was These Eyes? And This Guy's in Love?
I think these eyes might have been a Honer
2:21 the best
🙌🎹
Steely Dan's Black Friday sounds like it's made for NES games
😁
One more: These Eyes by The Guess Who
Noted! Thank you 🙏
Assuming Burton Cummings was playing the same piano in a few years, "New Mother Nature" is the one that comes to mind. 🙂
@@QuarrellaDeVil Pretty sure that's a Wurly, yeah. And it's an iconic part, but I don't know if I'd call it an intro, given that it comes in half way through the track. Everything else in this vid is a solo part that kicks off the song all by itself
Not a Wurly on These Eyes, Burton played an Hohner Pianet.
@@ElectricBozo Interesting! Now I have an excuse to buy another vintage board 😏
The drummer wrote "Best Friend" on the Wurly but Freddy hated it and only ever played it live on the grand piano.
Really? Didn’t know that !
Correction: It was written by John Deacon, Queen’s bassist.
@@mrhappy9999 my bad. You are correct. Freddie was given the Wurly but he hated it so Deacon took it home to play with.
Wasn't I wish recorded on a Rhodes?
Yes!! My bad :)
SOMETIMES WE ALL FACE ADVERSITY
Where it's at......two turntables and a microphone.
Yesss🎹
Yeah love that one. He played it at the Grammys long time ago. I think he won a Grammy that year too.
LA Woman - The doors
Noted 🙏🎹
Black Capricorn Day 🔥
Yes!! Love that one
Billy Joel - Just The Way You Are ?
Thats on a Fender Rhodes, i have it on my Fender rhodes video, check it out :)
Should have played that American Football song
Where’s “Joy to the world?
Three dog night?? Great tune noted for the part 2 video! Thanks
Great job but how about wooly bully watch it now 😮
Thanks! Don’t know that one, can you send me a link?
Isn't I wish played on a clav?
Only two are familiar for me. Maybe I should learn more.
And if I can suggest one more song, there should be “What’s Going On”, Donny Hathaway version.
Great tune!! Noted thanks 🙏
I thought the Doors' Riders on the Storm was played on a Wurlitzer?
Nope you can see Ray play it on a Rhodes. he was a rhodes guy with the bass.
OK! @@westernnoir4808
Not ‘famous’ per se, but certainly known among so many: click on the tremolo, and start hitting the D minor thing for ‘Sheep’ from Pink Floyd ANIMALS
Is that one not on a fender rhodes?
Nope, it's a Rhodes. As is "I wish"...
