    Angela's narration of clips from various runway shows makes me want to stop everything else and focus on upcycling. Her perspective on upcycling frees me to take more chances, to see what happens. Even though I don't wear much of what I've upcycled, I value both the process and end result of each project I've undertaken since I started following Angela.

I now want to use my old leather jackets, skirts and pants in a deconstructed but constructed way. I have too much inspiration. I couldn't justify buying Madam Sew's bias tape kit before but NOW I know its purpose in my life!! That piping is beautiful! I think Chunky Luxe Big yarn could be used for that knitting. It will require hand stitching and cannot be machine washed.

    I've been watching a few videos and took note of similar styles..
    One style that was a wow for me is the big capes and cloaks and big coats worn over the shoulders like capes.
    I also liked the patchwork, textures, tassels, and piping. It made me realize how much potential there is in my closet.
    Also, I need some thigh high boots. But without the heels a clumsy person like me would fall down and break bones hourly. If I had real skills, I would make patchwork boots to wear with a patchwork coat.
    Feeling more excited about current projects I am making and inspired now to change things up.

    10:23 what's interesting to me. This is the different types of quilting on the pants, it's not just patchwork it's also machine quilted in different straight line patterns. I'm a quilter so this is right up my alley. How I would do something like this is to use a "quilt as you go" technique. Cutting the blocks (top fabric), batting (middle filler) and backing (it would be the lining the inside) using basting spray or safety pins to hold the three layers together (change to a walking foot and quilting needle if you have one ) then I would layout the quilting design using painters tape as a guide. I don't sew on the painter's tape I sew between the lines. With quilting always start in the middle and work your way out. This is quilted with thread that matches the fabric but a variegated thread would add so interest to the quilt. I love this video thanks for the inspiration. 😊

    • @annkat100
      @annkat100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great guide for those of us who don’t really quilt!! Thank you!! ❤️‍🔥🔥 (I hv all the tools-so you’ve inspired me to at least try a boxy vest or something!) ⭐️✅

    • @cheshkat6321
      @cheshkat6321 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I saw a video where the designer was talking about making their designs stand out with bold threads and embroidery. I heard my inner voice applaud loudly! No reason the thread, especially when decorative, has to match. Almost every time I hear someone say "make sure the thread matches the fabric" a voice screams in my head, "But it's so boring and everyone has done that to death!"
      When I began to sew my straight lines were horrendous. As I improved, I wanted them noticed and I wanted to add subtle and not so subtle bits of my favorite colors with pretty thread. I don't have a plethora of thread but I have a few that are too pretty to just be lost in matching fabric. Thread can be so much more than just utility and construction.

    • @katlady5000
      @katlady5000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cheshkat6321 In quilting we do thread painting. For example, I do portrait quilting and I hand sew the hair, eyebrows and facial hair with a variegated thread brown thread to get the natural hair highlights. Having a background in quilting I see thread differently because we want the machine and free motion quilting to stand out it's a lot of work to sew 25 to 50 diagonal lines of quilting why have the thread blend. I always feel like I'm still learning and trying to improve. Free motion quilting you lower the feed dogs and guide the fabric around the machine to make circles, flowers etc.

    • @katlady5000
      @katlady5000 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@annkat100 There are some great youtube tutorials. I think grabbing a jellyroll (precut strips of fabric) and doing a jellyroll race quilt (see Missouri star quilt company for a video) will give a neat block of patchwork fabric quickly that can then be used to make clothes. The disappearing nine patch pattern with precut charm squares would also be a quick way to get a block of patch work fabric quickly. Since the designers are coming into the quilting world for inspiration I think this is a great thing for up cyclers to try.

    • @cheshkat6321
      @cheshkat6321 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@katlady5000 I started to feel all alone about the matching thread. Glad to know there are others that can see that not all threadwork should blend in.
      I agree that we have many opportunities to learn with sewing. I've done some small quilting projects, including free motion. Just because I knew my machine could do it, it was one of the things I had to try. I think my machine cried when I was done. I cried also. Only for a moment because I knew there were many other things to learn and be successful doing until I circle back for another attempt.

    Fluffy sweaters: LOVE it!!!! You'll want to buy Chenille yarn to get the right look. You can learn how to do a single crochet online and just follow the lines of the knitted or crocheted garment. If you have intermediate crochet skills, you can do the scroll work. Or, to keep it simple, just embellish at the neckline and wrists. You'll have to watch your tension so the garment remains stretchy. Better yet, crochet some flowers with chenille yarn and just hand sew them on!

    I love when you do these videos it such a treat! I state that every time I see a runway on YT that exclude diversity in race and body shapes. I just stated after viewing Zimmerman collection online it was a great video race wise great diversity but absent reality figure models. Etro model at 10:51 seem to be wearing a bodysuit with the additional fabric coming from the belt or skirted underneath the belt (there no blazer in this look). I will be using scarfing this Fall/Winter as a tool to keep color in my styling by adding a scarf to a belt by draping over strap or tying to buckle. I have thrifted broaches because this is going to be my way of adding things to my thrifted coats or blazers. It so fluffy (Despicable Me), any opportunity I get to shout that I do. lol

    For patchwork coats, etc. Don't forget to look for tablecloths, pillow covers, etc for the tapestry and brocade looks. I do the linens for a nonprofit thrift shop and when I find stuff like this that is good for upcycles, I usually include an idea on the tag. In fact, I just put out a lot of stuff for DIY Halloween costumes. For no sew, consider using the fusible stuff from the fabric store they use mostly for appliques. It's cheap, and it will hold well with gentle laundering. Although you can further embellish with embroidery thread, I've just used regular thread and hand sew around the edges. Or, you can buy a trim, and use fabric glue to seal the edges of your appliques.

    Angelina, this is so exciting! Love all the new fashion styles for the upcoming seasons ❤ yet I would wear them anything whether they are in season or not ☺ Love sooo many of these! The piping with rust orange color/white and the black/white gives a 1960s vibe, the men's shirt ideas, the peek a boos in the back, Marras fashion ideas, the Philosophy set, the patches and ponchos, the industrial feels, and shingles ( so much more!!) its amazing that its all right up my alley in what I have been into for since forever!! Really exciting to recreate these. So much inspiration that you have shared!!! Thank you so much Girly. I'm really happy to get started on ideas in making these items for fall !!🌻🙏🏾😸🦋 I also can't wait to see what you create in your space!! Looking forward to next Saturday to see what you have up your lovely fashion sleeve My Dear! 💜🥰

    The clips from Antonio Marras and Chloe were amazing; love the tapestry appliqués, patchwork, tassels, the puffer vest/poncho combo, also love the blouse to skirt with lace insert by Gabriela Hearst

    Fun video! I can't imagine wearing many of these, but glad that designers are FINALLY starting to pick up on some of your great upcycles! I feel like YOU thought of many of these first! Maybe I'll try adding some tapestry or tassels or do a little patch work.
