Thanks so much Gerry. This is exactly my problem at the moment. The house is 18 years old now and the tap,has been dripping for the last couple of years. My husband has never gotten around to replacing it. I’m going to give this a try myself. Greetings from Friedberg in Hessen, in Germany. You sound like you are from Dublin, just like myself. Take care.
I don't know how this video escaped my attention. No notification. Nice fix Gerry, I've got to change on out at my elderly mothers. Cheers! MB BAR RANCH
Hello Vespa Morelli Got it on Amazon UK but it's very handy with the second outlet. Handy for when the pressure washer ia attached and I need to fill a bucket or something. Done now for another 15 years if I last that long. Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry👍
Hi Dan. I had a look on Amazon but I could not find a similar valve. It is available on Amazon UK though. Cool valve and seem well made. New York still very much in the news for all the wrong reasons. Stay safe Dan. Cheers Gerry👍👍😷
nice job done I too find my self doing more at home during these strange times I'm still working (electrician) but don't go out on my days off so more stuff gets done at home .. Just one thing if any of you are doing this make sure any outside tap has a check valve inside it to stop any water from any attached hoses getting mixed with drinking water..standing water in hose poses a real risk of legionella ...this is a legal requirement in the UK.
Thanks for the heads up getyerspn. There are a couple of nrv's in this tap and another on the line feeding it. The Covid thing seems to be pretty bad over in the UK at least in the news. Is that your experience. Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry👍
does the valve have a built in non-return valve ? have you seen the " Darlac DW403 4 way brass manifold " do you have an isolating valve inside to shut it off, for frosty weather in the winter.
You are lucky we still have a tsp with a jumper ! So no backflow over there .. does the water bo down the sink anti clockwise,? Greetings from Australia . License plumber drainer gas fitter you have it easy ...
Hi Mark. Ireland is a bit like a big field compared to Oz. We're only about 300miles N-S and 130 ish miles E-W. No Kangaroos, big spiders or snakes but I would love to go there on hols some day. Great to hear from you Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry👍👍
@@GerrysDiy better come and visit . Shame there is not a trade swap wouldn't it be good to go and experience a trade somwhere else . like a working holiday. For broken down plumbers ! I hadthe pleasure of working with a Frenchman who spoke no English it was the best . Came home sore from laughing at each other ... We got the job done .
When I was in service in the early 1980s, I rented an apartment near the UK base that had a water tank in the attic. Any idea what the purpose of that was? Sad to see that on google earth that building has been destroyed and replaced, sure had some good times there .
Hello Mr Doe. In the UK and Ireland it is common to have a stored water supply in the attic so if the mains water should fail or cut off that the house can continue to have water for washing and toilets. Usually 40 gallons or more of stored water. In the States it's common to run the domestic straight off the mains. Hope this helps Cheers Gerry 👍
Hi Gerry, might there be an issue with fitting this tap to a brass backing plate? I ordered this same tap last wk after watching your video, but I should have ordered the 3/4 not the 1/2, not to worry Il order a thread reducer fitting
Hi Bernard. there are 2 common sizes of pipe 1/2 and 3/4 If your original back plate is 3/4 you will need a 3/4 by 1/2 inch brass bushing to reduce the size of the plate to the 1/2 inch thread on the tap. The majority of back plates here would be 1/2 inch. Thanks for commenting and good luck with the tap. Cheers Gerry👍
Most of ours in the states have the flange attached to the valve, we call them hose bibs, or sillcocks. Do you have to put those silly vacuum breakers on that style of valve or is it built in? The colder states like Michigan we use a lot of the frost free style, which puts the connection on the inside of the house, and vacuum breaker is built in. Very common for folks to forget to dissattach there hoses in the fall so the valve can't drain down and freezes and breaks. Cheers from a plumber in Michigan
Hi Michael. It's just a valve with nothing hidden or drain offs built in. Generally it does not get cold enough here to freeze and burst the valve. Michigan has been in the news lately and I remember that Lansing is the capital. Ireland is just a little island and would fit into your lake Superior. Other than that I know very little. Great to hear from the States though. The closest I have been to your state was Oregon where I worked for a while but it's a bit of a drive 😀 Thanks for commenting Michael Cheers Gerry👍😀
Hi Mike. It's a quick fix for my drip problem. I am on my own well so there are no water meters but nice to have it reliable again. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Cheers Gerry👍
Here's a link to the same tap on Amazon UK amzn.to/2KvJIwt Cheers Gerry👍👍
Thanks Gerry. There must be something similar available here. Things are getting a little better each day here but we must remain vigilant. Stay safe

Thank you for this video. I’m useless at diy but I have managed to change my outside tap to a new one following this video very easily
Cheers! It confirmed what I thought-and given me peace of mind! Job done! Thank you.

Just looked at the video, am about to tackle the outside tap.🙏

I was going to say if I buy off Amazon UK would there be an issue with it being metric size and the plate I have existing being Irish imperial
Thanks Gerry. I’ll have to see if I can find a tap like that in New York.

To be sure, to be sure!
Cheers matey I've just ordered this. Hopefully it'll get my Mrs off my back too lol.
Well done Darryl. Happy gardening Cheers Gerry👍
So you rolled on lots of extra Teflon tape so the tap points into the right direction which is down. Right?
Thank you sir
So before you put on the tap ? How do you turn of the water ?

Should have used flax and a jointing compound. PTFE is notorious for weeps
Hi Stephen I have lots of flax here but had some ptfe in the tool box. I only use flax on cylinders and rads. Thanks for commenting Cheers Gerry👍
Been to wickes and toolstation they don't have the whole thing! Where did you get your from and what's the name of it?

Thanks 👍. just had a look at your channel too. Left a comment Well done..Cheers Gerry
What if the pipe it's connected to is all rusty and corroded and coming up out-of the ground instead of out of the house???

Did you hear about the Irish tap dancer? He fell in the sink.
BOOM TISH.
You’re welcome.
Hi Mick. Thanks for the joke. Made me smile Cheers Gerry
GerrysDiy haven’t been able to slip that one since I did it as a dad joke for my boys, boys are 40 now.
It’s been festering for quite a while.
Nice one - PTFE is very cheap and taps that are not at the right angle are very annoying!
