  • Let me introduce you to the Wheelie Sloth Van !!! We bought it with a little help in September and we are super greatful !!
We are looking for a little assistance and know how to fix the passenger sliding door and ramp. The motor is going dead and we are looking to either fix it with a new motor ($2000 - 4000) or just disable it and use the door manually.
What should I do? Have you ever had issues like this before? What have you done?

I took mine to ADA and they told me my 1/10 HP motor was burned up and tried to charge me $1,000 for the motor. I took it to an auto electric shop and they repaired the brushes for $90.00. Be careful of the thieves in the Handicap business

When I bought my 2002 VMI conversion van that is a Chrysler minivan I know the ramp didn't work the man I bought it from it was for his wife and she had passed away but he said it did work work before. The handicapped van service person stated it was too old to buy parts for. I found an independent mechanic who took the motor to the ramp out he said it had water in it but he didn't know why and he took out the water cleaned the rust out of it and off the brushes and drilled a hole in the bottom so no water could collect. it worked

About your ramp motor, those are built bulletproof but I’m sure they can go bad,, but it’s probably a safety switch that is not making contact

We have a 2003 Town and Country....the doors are messed up too....I open and close them manually,,,it appears that if you had a good and reasonable mechanic disable the electric door opener and closer and had him adjust the catch mechanism so the door stayed closed you would be good even though you would have to open and close the door manually.....finally,,,find a good reasonable mechanic to fix your door and steering,,,sounds like the folks youve been dealing with are rip off crooks. I am looking at purchasing a used preciously leased ford Transit hightop and put in a manual only bi-fold ramp and a docking station....we currently use auto adjust tie down straps but they are hard on my back....the more automated motorized stuff you have the more that can go wrong,,,keep it simple,,,good luck my friend

I'm late to the party, but this looks like two issues. The first issue is that the ramp is not retracting all the way back into the van, in fact the ramp motor doesn't seem to be working very well. Depending on the trim level and year of the van, it may have come with power sliding doors, if so, a Dodge dealership or your local mechanic should be able to resolve that issue.
As for the ramp, a lot of wheelchair ramps and add on power door modules use automotive power window motors. Since 1979 I've had to replace three door motors on three different vans, and a linear actuator on a gull wing door on a very old Dodge Caravan conversion. The last two door motors I needed I bought from NAPA by giving them the model numbers for the motors. They come complete with cable connectors, and the gearboxes the windows use. This is an inexpensive way to replace that motor, but you will likely have to do some machine work. The last one I replaced needed to have the mounting holes tapped with a tapping set, I did that in my living room, then the old mechanical pieces off the dead motor had to be swapped onto the new motor. Don't buy cheap after market window motors such are Dorman, get OEM replacement motors.
I think once you have the ramp working properly again that it will be easy to fix the door issue.

Idk if you figured out the door closing issue but you have to basically shut it 80% of the way and then press on just the back part of the door straight into the body and it will shut. Have the same issue on my van currently. Its an issue with latching.

I once had the same problem until we realized the front passenger seat was somehow obstructing the operation of the ramp & door to properly close. Try moving the passenger seat up as much as can be tolerated and see if the problem still occurs.

Try starting the van. Sometimes that gets the door to electrically suck the door in the last inch.

Braun took over IMS I wonder if you contact them they could give you an authorized service center. I have one just like this and had problems with that they eventually changed out the computer in the back.

They stopped honoring IMS parts years ago.

I also could tell horror stories of my Braun conversion ramp and door issues.Big bucks spent and issues never really resolved.
I’ve had 3 Chrysler/Dodge Brauns. Part of the or problem is the engineering from Dodge. The wire harness below the Doo is moving every time you open the doors. The wires do this because the door motor is in the door. Flexing wires break. Extremely stupid engineering IMO.
The ramp motor housing is pot metal or maybe aluminum and the bolt attachments (ears) break off. My ramp motor is barely hanging on by wire ties.
Over a thousand $ put into fixing and door sill will not close electrically.
Oh well at least I’m pulling the ramp up by rope anymore.
I’ve since bought a 2005 with a slide out from under the floor ramp. Haven’t had a chance to use it yet.

Hi. Were you able to get your van fixed? My wife just got set up with a Permobile M3 corpus and we are looking for a van to move the chair around. I saw your exact van for sale near us and I was wondering if you were able to get support for yours? Also was wondering how your Permobile M3 worked with the van. They are heavy chairs and I was wondering if these older IMS ramps can take the weight.

Give it more time to close sometimes that belt will click in slow, especially when the car hasn't been on for too long, it runs on battery

The more electrical features there is, more will break down and cost more to repair. If you can, I recomment manual ramps and doors.

I’m having similar problems with my sons van, I’ve learned a lot about those doors I believe your problem about the door not opening is only a broke wire in your wiring harness down under the door where the track is, it’s a real simple fix if I was closer to you I would fix it free for you, now as far as the door not pulling itself shut and locking that’s called a cinch latch, and that can be expensive, around 600. Hope this helps you

I forced to sell my IMS van 10 years ago because they could not honor the parts for the Ramp and Door. Baun who bought out the IMS company would not honor the old IMS parts. Whoever sold this vehicle is shady.

Braun is an awesome company. a lot of the old IMS parts are obsolete and cannot be found anymore. I do agree that vehicle should not of been sold

Why did you buy it That's too old of a van to have those kind of problems never buy a side entry vehicle always go for a rear entry
