Norma, this is one of your best videos. The monks, the time share people, the street performers--all of them pose a threat to Las Vegas tourists. Thanks for all the trouble you and your photographer Tim went through in making this video (and you did it without your hair in a ponytail!),😀 Love and appreciate you so much!!!

My stepmother has a very amiable personality as she always makes eye contact and smiles at everyone, she had never been to Vegas, so when she came out here I made sure to give her this rundown on scams before we ever went out on the strip! I'm sure I saved her hundreds of dollars!

In particular, the showgirls that expect a $20 tip for one picture then, a $60 picture with two
      showgirls
It isn't the percentage of a bill.
Like the timeshare scam it isn't affiliated with a Las Vegas company
These are the lock ups, that return back to what they know
      doesn't really work
      For example
To date The Fontainebleau was the biggest Las Vegas invest
      It was a timeshare property.
An investment that had to be hedged
      to avoid these scams
Yes Las Vegas has its own reputation of being shady
but the odds are always with the house
The returns with tourism are astronomical

The street vendors are probably required to have a license to set up shop, but they are quite convenient if you're just standing there waiting for the Bellagio fountains or Mirage volcanos to go off. I've bought soda from them before. They don't bother you. You see them and approach them if you're interested in buying something.

I was roped into a time-share presentation a few years back it wasn't too bad until I told them I didn't want a time-share and asked for our free vouchers then the guy became loud and rude, he accused us of wasting his time. I started crying because of how we were being treated but my friend who was braver than I was stood up to him and soon he backed off. It was definitely an experience that I will never forget.

Hi Norma, spent a lot of time in Vegas. Haven't been in a while, but it looks like the scams are pretty much the same thing different day. I remember coming in to McCarran (now Harry Reid) and getting on one of the shuttles to take me to Bally's (now Horseshoe). Waited on the bus until they could squeeze every last person on which takes forever. Driver gets in and as he does another man jumps on and stays standing in the front. Door closes and the standing man starts talking...I was TRAPPED in a rolling time share speech pitch all the way to Bally's. From that day on I have NEVER taken the shuttle again. Love Vegas, but there is a scammer every 2 feet. P.S. Tip for your male viewers, always keep you wallet/cash/credit cards etc in your front pants pocket, never in your back pocket. Big crowds like in front of The Bellagio and other locations are a prime target for pick pockets.

I don’t mind buying things off the side walk vendors to help support them. Not bad especially for the price. Time shares aren’t really a scam cause you will most likely get what they promise but (in my opinion) they are NOT worth the time especially if you’re only in town for the weekend.
But thank you Norma and Tim for not only discussing these traps but going the extra mile and actually investigating into these. Great video!

I worked as a timeshare Salesperson for a while. I kept getting terrible leads. As a test I went to one of the people that give away things like shows, etc. I told them I was in escrow & couldn’t take on an expense like a timeshare because my banker told me not to. They said it didn’t matter. Not cool.

Also don’t buy water out if coolers they often fill “recycled” plastic bottles with tap water and sell them to tourists 🤢Thanks for the video, great job Norma!! 🧡🖤🧡

First trip to Vegas we fell into the time share trap. We were put on a bus to out of town and taken to a brand new complex. Then it was a maze of continuous sales pitches. We tried leaving and everytime we went through another door to leave there was another group of people in a room trying to sell us a timeshare. Finally got outside and were stuck with these people until the rest of the group came out. This was before cell phones. It was 6 hours of our 2 day vacation. We got two passes to a couple shows for it but not worth it at all. I will never buy a crimeshare.

I actually went with my sister and her husband to LV so they could go to a timeshare presentation (about 20 years ago). I tended their small child in their hotel room so they could go to the presentation. I think they got free lodging and meals for 2 days. BUT, the presentation was definetly more than 2 hours. probably at least 4 hours. but you didn't get the voucher for the free hotel and meals until after you attended the presentation and sat down with one of their representatives and let him try to coerce you into buying a timeshare.

      When wasn't it a scam everywhere ?
Attending these meetings are at a cost of time
There are no off of the strip timeshare properties in Clark County NV.
The gaming control board & hotel association won't allow it
It's one of the reasons, why the Fontainebleau is troubled
It was controlled in part by Turnberry Corporation to become a timeshare Condo
The trouble being that no one knew exactly who- in part was !

I agree totally about those street performers that say they are going to do this big stunt but then they spend so much time soliciting money/donations from
the audience. Only people we ended up giving money too and they were amusing enough but we got tired of waiting for them to do this “stunt” so we left. I am not sure they ever did the “stunt”
I think this is definitely a tourist trap and a time sucker and would never stop again for it.

@@NormaGeli I have this crazy opinion that they close the escalators so us out of shape tourists have to sit in front of machines or at tables. MM is the exception as they have benches and places to sit but a vast majority of the strip does not have a place to sit. Unless it is in front of a game or another place to spend money. Just saying.
And no way could it be the 24/7 running in all kinds of crazy heat and desert temperature swings that takes them out of service. 🙄

Great video Norma. When it comes to the time shares, it's not just the people at the kiosks that are trying to get you into a presentation as I have noticed that email is being used increasingly (especially from Hilton Grand Vacations) as another way to get you into the presentations. In the past month, I have gotten at least 5-6 different emails from Hilton Grand Vacations promising me a $200 3 night vacation in Vegas (or other destinations like Orlando) along with 60,000 Hilton Honors points if I attend a time share presentation down there during the trip. It's definitely not worth it in my view.

Years ago when I walked the Strip with my kids (who were both under 10 at the time), I noticed that almost every time we walked by a flapper, each of them made some sort of conservative effort to turn the picture down or to shield the card from my kids. Very good advice Norma & putting it out there because I’ve noticed every time I’m out there it’s gotten worse also stoned homeless people asking for money hopefully the proper authorities see this & start to crack down on it Thanks Norma Tony Tequila Out

Great video and super informative today. Keeping everyone aware of these things is great. Remind me of those dudes who always want to clean your shoes at a mall. Like my guy I'm in chanclas. Lol. But I get it. They see pressured and trying to get a side hustle going. Have a great weekend. Can't wait for the next one

Very informative for the inexperienced Vegas visitor. I would add the 3-card monte games that I see on the pedestrian bridges.
I was nervous for you when that monk grabbed your wrist.

Thanks for the info. But when where in Vegas I don't fall for these traps. Its cool to see and I respect that, but I'm there for the food and shopping and a little gambling too. Good job Norma great video of the strip.

Yep. We fell for the time share. We were promised $50 cash, $50 Amazon card and a $100 restaurant gift card. We got the first two no problem. The restaurant card, I couldn't find a restaurant anywhere I could use it at.
