Did anyone else notice, when the killing started, not one yellow mound moved, yes there was movement, yes it was someone in yellow, but the ones bowed never once moved. But that was a trick, if you look through, not a single mound moved. That was the test, seeing the trick as well as the reality, His training saved his and his men's lives
This was a great movie but the end was very sad. Kai was a man of honor and courage ABOVE those required to be a samurai. He learned the lighting fast technique of the yellow robed priests and could beat any samurai.
This is basically John Wick, but in different timelines.

Great scene from a great movie. Keanu Reeves has one of the best hit-to-flop ratios of any actor.

@@superHane123 That may have more to do with which studios were behind it than the quality of the movie. Probably a confluence of various studios rather than a single major studio. Couple that with a limited theatrical release.

Keanu Reeves is one of my favorite actors but it's true that got a very specific way to act and in most film he play very similar characters . They just write the script for him not for the story / film himself . he is sooo good .
47 ronin is a legend based on real event. Hollywood F'd it up into a Disney movie thinking everyone in Asia loves magic. Same for Mulan. Only the west loves it, all Asian completely forgotten. No grade.

Well, it wouldn't have been the same movie. Keanu is great for the sword and fighting scenes, but not as believable in military leadership. Plus, he simply does not convey a wide range of emotion.

Jedi were literally based on Samurai. George Lucas even wanted Toshiro Mifune to play Obi-Wan , but he declined and they got Sir Alec Guiness instead.

This movie is so underrated, I have no idea why it got hate.
When you cannot do anything good with your left, you can always hate, same for the decline of marvel movies etc, the movies are good, but times are hard nad everyone loves seeing a big company fall, jealousy.
Maybe some people wanted a more realistic movie, like a documentary.

Lol "pink sword master" is a mythological creature called a Tengu. It's like a bird man/demon. 47 ronin is pretty sick, highly reccommend.
I thought it sucked, it was slow and Keanu barely said 10 words, and the end didnt make rational sense for honorable warriors!
Perhaps not from a modern point of view. But it makes perfect sense in the context of the era.
As ronin, they no longer have the rank, authority or privileges of samurai. In terms of rank, they are no different from peasants now. The fact is they assassinated a noble. Whether or not their cause was just doesn't matter, only that they raised their swords against their superiors. For that, the crime is treason and the punishment is death.
Just thank the heavens it wasn't his british cousin, Reanu Keeves.

@@Maplecook yea, I know the original story (Except I have poor memory for names). Still, I don't think they had some kind of obligation to follow the events 1 for 1 in that movie (Especially since some parts of the story vary between different versions, so we don't exactly know what happened that night, only the gist of it). But I didn't watch the movie, so I can only assume that the number 47 isn't the only thing they kept.
Tho I do understand, that seeing fictional elements and foreigner protagonist added to a Japanese story can be seen as a bad thing, and I don't necessarily disagree. This story definitely does deserve a completely faithful depiction.
