    I've been doing some small projects with southern live oak from discarded logs collected from around my neighborhood. That wood is dense, heavy, and hard to saw, even when it is green!
    And I love the color of the purpleheart. I made an Adirondack chair out of purpleheart a number of years ago (Norm Abram's plans from The New Yankee Workshop) and left it "naked" with no finish because I liked the color so much. It's now taken on a darker brown color as it has aged, but still looks great.

      WOW! that is a LOT of purple heart. sounds like a fun project. Live oak is a ton of fun to work with. but my since of fun is about as twisted ad the grain in live oak.

    I swear to gawd I saw you clipping that first brass pin and I thought “holy crap man, just cause the bit got stuck doesn’t mean it needs to die!”

    James' wife must be putting him to work in the kitchen, as based on last few projects. Super nice work, as always.

    I've been using a Stanley 65 low angle block with the knuckle joint cap and adjustable throat for my end grain planing. It's very enjoyable to use. I was thinking about that when you were planing that purple oak.

    You need to send Raaghav some of your fancy boiled linseed oil. Great video!

    Next you need to make a butter dish and a small, butter cube width bull nose plane for making butter curls. Thank you for sharing this project. Take care.

    Good work, very meticulous, would it be easier to do your project with mini tools,or your hand skills are more precise with large chisels

    So, James, would there be any advantage in boiling olive oil to improve its performance as a wood treatment as is done with linseed oil?

    • @WoodByWright
      @WoodByWright  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have heard of other oils being heated, but I have never tried it.

    Hey, James, while you were planing that heavy champher, in the headboard of that beautiful piece of butter furniture, and the view switched to the shavings hitting the floor, I started singing a Prince song...
    Can you guess which one?
    Edit: It is not a surprise to him any more, you just let him know. 🤔

    @6:32 that would have taken forever lol
    I hope that's scrap purple heart, or you have a really expensive butter holder >_>
    @13:32 deja vu
    lol yeah, I use cooking oil on stuff too ^_^
    wow $1000?!?! That will probably buy him a fully machined carpentry workshop in India @_@!!!!!

    • @RaaghavWoodWorks
      @RaaghavWoodWorks 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to hear you use the cooking oil polish too!
      However I don't think you could get a full machined shop with a 1000 dollars, you could get maybe a compact Bosch table saw and a power sander, planer and circular saw I believe, good beginning but as always you can take it forward, thanks for the support!
