Here is the context of this performance and the marvelous interaction with the crowd then some background information about this song.
When she perforned this tour, she was really facing hard times, both on professional side and personal side.
On the professional side, she just had been cornered in the US: at the moment ahe was about to breakthrough, her promotion was abruptly halted when Celine Dion’s staff pressured Sony execs to push Lara to a pop dance career and away from the love ballads venue. Sony was their joint record company, and this led to a total artistry dispute and Lara left the US scene. As a side note, she only registered 2 pop dance songs and the first one (I will love again) was #1 in the US dance billboard for more than one year.
On the personal side, she just had suffered a love betrayal/cheating and she was facing severe health issues ( eating disorders leading to heart attack).
So she confessed later she had a lot of suicidal thoughts.
Her fan base knew most of this (not the health part) and wanted to show some support. They used this song, one of her 2 biggest hits in France, and now a classic of french music. They changed the chorus from Je t’aime / I love you to On t’aime / we love you 🙏
I also love how Lara reacts to it, after a small moment of surprise, establishing a beautiful dialog with her fans. It shows who she really is: a benevolent humble caring and smart woman.
Later she said this moment really uplifted her state of mind and helped her to go through these hard times.
This beautiful interaction made headline news on France tv channels the day after.
I can see why it made the news. Obviously, there are a lot of people who care about her and took the time to arrange this. Just a beautiful thing to do.

She was having a hard time apparently in her personal life at that time, and her supporters were singing her song but instead of singing the original lyrics "Je t'aime" they were singing "On t'aime" - we love you 🤍

The audience is singing, "On t'aime" and not "Je t'aime" like the actual song.
What it means is "We love you" instead of "I love you. They are showing how much they love her.
I'm sure it really touched her in such amazing ways.

This concert was a love fest between Lara and her fans. Hence the crazy energy you saw here.
Some fans were shouting at her before she starts: "Lara please don’t sing"
And she said “wow you caught me off guard” when they started to sing.
Apparently, not completely sure about it, but the pianist and musical director Pierr Grimard had been contacted before the concert by the fan base to make this happens

She arranged it with the pianist and Lara didn't have a clue! You're right again: she'll never forget this moment! She said in some interviews that it was the most special moment in her whole career. She says that this song turned out to be more special to her because of ehat happend here!
Another really good performance from this particular concert occurred later in the show. She sang "Pas Sans Toi" (Not Without You) and the audience sang with her again. It shows how intimate she is with her fans and how she interacts with an audience. It's why I cannot stop watching for this woman. She draws you in with every performance.

Her most famous French language song. She and her partner wrote this 25 years ago and the crowds still go crazy when she performs it.

Ty for this. Great reaction. Sorry for your loss. This is my favorite video of all time by anyone. Our then young Queen, long may she reign, was going through a hard time in her real life and the crowd knew it. They sang 'We love you' to her while she attempted to sing 'I love you" back to her wildly adoring fans. Lara's fan base does not just love her, they are in love with her. The Queen needed a boost and she go it. 1-10 tearjerker scale? 11.
That is just so incredibly touching that they put this together. I'm sure it affected her to this day.

Addendum to my previous statement: I've gleaned from many commenters from dozens of other reactors that she was having professional, personal, health and to top if off the French media was being tough on her. All of this is true at some point in her career but not all at this particular time. My observation: when she did her From Lara with Love concert she looked a little heavier than she did in this video; read that she had an eating disorder for nearly (I think 7 years). Bottom-line this performance did give her a boost and that life was indeed worth living!

Je t’aime is one of her biggest success in France, now a classic of french music, and is also an immense success in Russia and eastern europe.
As she is used to with all her songs, she performs this song very differently from one tour to the other ( powerful and belted, subtle and delicate, …)
“Je t’aime” was co-written by Lara and Rick Allison, her music producer and composer. He also had been her boyfriend for a few years, at the start of her career. This song was written when their love evolved to a friendship and speaks about a couple splitting while still having a lot of sentiments one for the other.

Hello there, great reaction! The concert Nue is just amazing (as much as all others). I personally love her intro song "Immortelle" just her singing and at the piano. Lara is a vocalist, so she is there to perform, don't worry, it was just that song "je t'aime" where the crowd took over. As you probably read from other comments by now, the crowd (with the help of her pianist) set her up in a kind of love/support message as she was going through difficult time personally and with media. Hope to hear more reaction from Lara, as it was a long time ago for the first 3...

Two things. 1) You needed the subtitles! I was disappointed for you as soon as I saw they weren't there. I think the fact that the crowd are not singing the correct lyrics is one of the most important things. They are singing "On t'aime" - "WE love you", back to her singing, "I love you". 2) Arguably one of the other most important bits is after you stopped it! Don't stop too early :)

Hi Bob, the audience that night was very expressive throughout the whole concert, they just got mad for her in "je t'aime". You have to listen to this whole concert which is also available in 5-6 parts of about 20min each. It was the concert of her life. It helped her forget her suicidal thoughts and go on. I never saw an artist so absolutely happy but also so extremely desparate in a performance. She lived a whole life that night on the scene. But even that incredible love was not able to make her return to Europe from Canada where she lives until today so far away from her parents and her birthplace. Obviously she has not forgotten how she was treated from the French media etc in her beginning as an artist. Though she was also mistreated in USA. French people is a wonderful nation but they also know how to be rude. A last example is their disgusting behaviour to the greatest football player in history who is a very humble guy and a philanthropist, the famous Leo Messi. They made him feel persona non grata and he has to leave Paris to finish his career somewhere else. Lara and Leo. Two wonderful human beings. It's too much
