    the way this is presented is hilarious basically like "wanna do that shit? Cool-street class."

    I agree, SCCA needs to make it easier to get this information in a cut and dry form.

    so...I am on the SCCA website for an hour and find nothing. I hop on TH-cam and find this guy with 58 subs as of now ( I subbed) and wonder why does this guy have so little subbs LOL.. Perfect Ian. This will help so many of us! Thanks!

    • @iangent.961
      @iangent.961  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the sub Scenic. I thought it was ridiculous how little information SCCA provides for such a hot topic. Our local autocross group forums is 75% new people asking what class their car is in and moderators just snapping at them because they've answered the question so many times. Once I came across this "cheat sheet" SCCA provided I figured I'd make a quick video because I couldn't find one. Glad it has been able to help!

    • @scenicroutetravelers3655
      @scenicroutetravelers3655 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i printed out that cheat sheet you provided and will be taking it to our next meet and handing it out!
      im still trying to figure out if i do a cat delete what class that would put me in. I have a stock RX8. In in C Street as of now. I want to delete my cat so i can pre mix. the SCCA thinks they are a secret society or something...

    • @iangent.961
      @iangent.961  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm pretty sure you can only touch the exhaust after the cat. (The stock cat can't be messed with in C Street.) Meaning, you could remove the mufflers and have straight pipe back, but the cat must remain untouched. I saw this a lot on WRX's running stock class, I mention them because they sounded pretty good with the muffler delete.

    Enjoyed the heck out of your video. My autocross days began and ended when I bought a new Pinto in 1973. I went from the dealer to a wheel shop and purchased Cragar ss wheels ( 1/2” wider than stock wheels) entered an autocross that weekend and BAM!…. D Modified Production. Still had fun. somehow finished 7th out of 14 cars. Must have been the Radials.

    Good video, Main thing being ,The Class Briefing Sheet is very helpful.Gives you a good base line of what Category of class you should be in.I hand it out at our events.The new drivers are happy to get it.The ones that got a little lost looking in the classing book. They liked it even more..Glade competition manager Doug Gill put it together. I asked if he could do something like this years ago. One tech error in video.Big wing doesn't put you in Street Prepared. It moves you to Street Modified.SP only allows adding 10inch flat rear spoiler.They are a few lines apart on the briefing sheet..:) It might of been the beer. Also like it was stated earlier.Street Prepared does allow limited engine swap with in gen. I took the 12a out of my FB RX7 for the 13b 6port in the 84-85 for C-Street Prepared.

    • @soloracer1
      @soloracer1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      One line that might confuse people on the Street Prepared Briefing sheet bullet points."You can cut or replace fenders for wider tires".Fender have to be what was available stock.Stock fender options are possible I guess.. What you can do is.Cut fender and add fender flare.Replacing complete fender is more likely SM.

      ... and I left out some classes. That's what you get with a 250 page rule book, this was hard to make under 10 minutes, I realize why this video doesn't really exist... I wouldn't be surprised if classing alone scares people away.

    Something I'm dealing with a lot.Coilovers are not allow 100% in Street Touring,Street Prepared,Street Modified.If your car didn't come stock with a Spring over Shock.Then you can't have a coilover.Many cars can have Coilover in front but not rear.Examples Mustangs,Nissan 350Z and 370z,G35.G37.Fiat Aba etc. Relocation the rear spring to a different location moves you to a Prepared class .Not Street Prepared but PREPARED stripped down of interior & lights missing windows classing

    How would they enforce all these rules? They would need an expert on every car to be able to recognize stuff that isn't stock. Like an ecu mod. Or some cars that have supercharged and non supercharged models, but maybe you put on a factory looking supercharger. Or maybe you got better sway bars from a different car, etc.

    I put a 2016 Maxima engine (VQ35DE) in my 2004 Maxima (also a VQ35DE) for reliability purposes. The timing is different so it requires cam sensor inverters for the intake, and additional wiring and cam sensor inverters for the exhaust. The ECU also needs to be tuned for the intake manifold or the car will lose a ton of midrange power. How badly am I getting screwed here? 🤣

    I have just dug out a old 75 280z that has been sitting for 20 years but it has been gutted, has a roll cage, fuel cell, air cooled break pipes. It was just missing a fuel rail and i put a modern one on and to my surprise it started right up. So i was thinking about racing it but i dont trust the drums in the back. I have no idea what class I am in now probably street modified but I would like to race what ever class i can but if i do a break swap what would that mean? where would that put me?

    • @iangent.961
      @iangent.961  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a 280z as well. Excellent car. I believe all those modifications would put you into Street modified as well (brakes upgrade or not). Unmodded, all stratus in H Street. Suspension will automatically put you in a street touring class STS but you can only run up to 7.5 wheels and 225 tires. Suggest sticking with HS it's the slowest class so everyone you beat your the under dog. Swaybar good shocks and struts and Bridgestone re71r (the widest that will fit on oem width wheels ) and have fun

    My Fiat 500 is ineligible. Does this mean that the car isn’t allowed at all, or that it can’t compete for times? The Abarth version of the same car is not ineligible, so it must not be for safety reasons.

    • @iangent.961
      @iangent.961  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keith Petersen you would have to reach out to your local club. It’s likely that you can’t compete due to roll over factor. SCCA has a formula to determine stabilization factor based on cars height/width. Same reason Most SUVs can’t compete. There have been Abarths rolling over as well at autoX (google it). Thank you. Will do. It just seemed odd that the Abarth version was OK but the standard was not.

      @@critterIMHO It says ineligible for STREET=stock Category for being unstable. You can change it and lower it and run it in a improved class like Street Touring or Street Prepared. example Subaru Forester is also listed as unstable for stock class. but it is listed in F-Street Prepared

    How would they know if the ECU has been flashed?

      Andrew Rout, from my expeierience at local events there’s just a level of integrity most have. If you want to “cheat” you’re only cheating yourself. Typically a clubs prizes are a coozie or cup or something small. There’s really no reason to cheat. If you suspect someone is cheating you can raise this with your club. I often see rookies “cheating” but because classing is so confusing (thanks SCCA) it’s almost always not on purpose. At a national level they impound your cars and inspect them. You can also protest other cars if you suspect something is not by the book, this is fairly rare. If you flashed your ECU run the street class you fall into or flash it back and run stock would be my suggestion.

      @@iangent.961 Got it; wasn't suggesting I wanted to cheat; I'm just new to all of this and wondering about the inspections they do. I'm sure at some point I'll want to be competitive against others, for now though, just looking to have fun and find the limits of my car.

    What class for Meth injection or E85?

      If your car was a flex-fuel vehicle from the factory you can use e85 in street and street touring classes. If it was a conversion it goes to Prepared or Modified.
      Below is the Fuel rule from the 2019 draft.
      "3.6 FUEL
      A. Street and Street Touring® category vehicles will use fuel which is “Federally approved for use on public highways,” and which does not exceed an octane rating of 93 AKI (Anti-Knock Index = [R+M]/2) with an allowed variance up to +0.9. Fuel may not exceed 15% ethanol (E15). This includes the pump fuel known as E85, but does not allow racing- type fuels which are available at service station pumps. Fuels comprised of more than 15% ethanol may only be used when specified by the manufacturer (e.g., in the owner’s manual for flex-fuel vehicles).
      B. In addition to fuels which are allowed by Section 3.6.A, Street Prepared, Street Modified, Prepared, and Modified category vehicles may use die- sel fuel, any grade of gasoline, or any gasoline/ethanol blend. Gaso- lines consist entirely of hydrocarbon compounds. Gasoline may contain antioxidants, metal deactivators, corrosion inhibitors, and lead alkyl compounds such as tetraethyl lead.
