    The man who does your work on the knives and the frames is an amazing find and your idea of making them into a lovely item is a treasure!

    • @AntiquesArena
      @AntiquesArena  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Wanda. He is the same man who will frame the riffle for my son. I hate seeing aunties thrown away so turning the odd knives in to a display made something beautiful and gave the knives a new life.

    Just so you know the published Christie's price already includes premium and vat it would have been a hammer of about £1100. Also I think they are possibly repro. Have a look at Cheffins auction tomorrow 12 September lot 358. Exactly the same pair. I've found a few examples, my guess is these were made rather recently, but still of high quality there is no question.

    • @minarima
      @minarima 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      For anyone who is curious and lazy the lot 358 mentioned above sold for £420

    • @rowluxillusion5235
      @rowluxillusion5235 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@minarima they seem to be very available for around £250-350 on various websites, clearly produced to deceive as Christie's specialists were fooled by them. As I've sid they are of quality manufacture but they are not old.

    the head on the parrots you have are pink but in the Christies they are Green mottled feathers.. otherwise they look the same - might be a different painter that finished them? i hope they are original though and either way an AMAZING find!! well done Ed. ;)

Great result on the parrots and never even thought of using Christies to look up items that have sold years ago :). Look forward to watching more of the videos soon Edward

    Love the candlesticks. When confronted with the idea that I will make money I just say, we all have to do something because I need to eat just like everyone else. The antique business is like a big revolving circle. There wouldn't be an antique business if it didn't work like this. A person makes money off an item and then the buyer makes money off the item. This goes on until there is no more extra to be made and somehow it is recycled right back into the public at auctions or estate sales at a really low price to start the cycle all over again. The one thing I have learned is that people never want you to make more money off their items than they do but if they understood how it worked we wouldn't have this problem.

    Jaw dropping. Stay lucky Walter. I'm about to buy as a collector not a seller an ancient venetian latticino vase. He wants 5.00 and it needs a repair. Valued at 1.000 upwards Now, I'm more than please to buy damaged High quality. Also, I might gamble on doing a renovation to the glass. So I'm an artist by all accounts and I've worked with glass. Do I have a go or just be contented to observe the beauty of tht intricacy. Must dash. Told you my budget was 30.00 per week whn I bought yur torty fan. Fun nd games!!)

    Love the Candlesticks, I would personally keep them but each to their own. I get it all the time at the booties with fellow dealers gobbing off and moaning 'oh why you sell to him, he will sell it on for alot more' Some people just need a smack in the mouth but think that is the reason misses and kids come with me so I don't get in trouble haha. The reason I do this buying & selling job is mainly to be with the family more but also to find these little treasures that would never be in my possession through working for someone else. The items I have accumulated over the years which I love is why I wake up at the crack of dawn on a weekend and stand in a cold field rummaging through boxes and bags. Love the video and congratz on a corker of a find.

      I had to have a look for myself, yes 300+, but look again yourself, nowhere near the same quality and not worth 30 quid, in my opinion anyway, the eBay ones that is. With Walter's find, the quality looks to be there, although you'd have to see them in person to be absolutely sure, and I agree, one way or the other, fake, don't think so, or real, a bargain 👍

    Hi! The “cross” of cash coins is really designed to look like a dagger or knife. However, traditionally, they are made longer to look like a straight sword to hand on the wall to ward off bad luck and illness. From what I can see, the coins used in yours have a pretty big date range. I see a coin from the Tang Dynasty to Qing Dynasty. If you email me close up images of it to coinpicker@hotmail.com I’ll happily ID them for you as that’s my forte. Usually I tell by the type and age of the string used in order to determine when the item was crafted. Traditionally, red cotton string was used. Very old ones fade to pinkish colour string and plastic twine and die cast or pressed out repro coins used in very modern ones. Great finds! Cheers! CP

    Judging by the way you described the quick reaction of the other stall holder, I have a sneaky suspicion the stall holder didn't want to show their hand and had someone high tailing it down to buy it for a song. If i'm right, imagine how gutted that woman was when she saw it was a pair 😂😂... nice find. Don't feel sorry for the seller either, if you can't immediately see the quality there, there's no excuse, well done 👍

      And use everything including non collectable props and a history lesson to grab people's attention and get them to become interested in our past and its relics.
      My credo is that everyday that goes by is our past and all things created by us and/or nature becomes a treasure from our past.

    Great find, they are really nice, but I don't really like that you pinpointed exactly where you bought them from. I would bet that that someone sees this video and will know who the woman is and recognise the items.
    Chances are that the woman who sold you the items will now find out how much they are worth and will be devastated.
