    Great in depth review bud, appreciate the effort of going through it all. I've toyed with the idea of this tent for a couple of years now. I believe some the condensation is down to the low fly (but that has other plus points to it so jot all bad) and it's designed for a much drier cold winter climate. Great look and love their wind tests.

      Hey Jamie. Thanks for the comment mate. Most tents with sil nylon. Not a massive issue. Just ensure when setting up, you have room to tighten before sleep. You can also spray tent with waterproofing to help but not a massive deal. Great tent and a beast in the wind.

    Like the look of this tent, looks an interesting design and quite spacious for a 1 man tent. I see from your video reviewing it that you have a regular size thermarest mat, I’m wondering how well it fits in this tent? I am considering this tent but also plan to get a long/wide pad so I’m a bit concerned about how well it would fit in the tapered shape of the tent. Do you think there is enough space for a larger mat? I think one that tapers at the foot end might be ok but a fully rectangular one would be pushing on the sides too much? Would appreciate your thoughts on this. Cheers, Tom
    PS glad I found your channel as I am living in NI currently and hope to explore as much of Ireland as possible this year so will get some ideas of places to visit and hopefully camp too!

    • @soletrail
      @soletrail  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Tom,
      Thank you very much for the message. So this tent is an absolute beast. It has been throw 3 storms and honestly not a make on it.
      So regarding the length. It tapers from 115cm to 70cm. Personally I think a tapered pad would work better. The inner size is length is 275cm which will fit most pads.
      If you are struggling to decide I will be getting my tent out to clean it after the weekends wild camp. I can take more precise measurements for you.
      What kind of pad do you have?
      PS Thanks for the sub. If your ever down the west of Ireland hit me up.

      @@soletrail Thanks for the reply. Think I've narrowed down my choice to either this tent, probably in PU as it's a fair bit cheaper and not too much heavier, or the Wild Country Helm 1 (out of stock everywhere at the moment though), both get great reviews and should cope with the changeable weather you can get in the mountains.
      I currently just have an Alpkit Cloud Base which is ok for warm nights in the summer but looking to get something with a better R value for proper 3 season use at higher elevations. Been looking at the Exped Ultra mat which they do in both a mummy and rectangular shape.
      If you wouldn't mind measuring between the pole at the bottom end and also across the floor roughly where the top of your mat would be that would be amazingly helpful. A bit harder to understand what would/wouldn't fit with the unusual shape without actually having the tent to try it out with!
      Hoping to get out to the west coast and down south a fair bit this year so will keep in touch!

    I use PU tents from Nordisk and although they are cheaper they are really good quality. I was camping in them in 25m/s winds, super heavy rain...the tent (Nordisk Oppland 3 and Halland 2 ) is like a tank.
    What I'm gonna write now....don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to criticize you or the video, I'd just like to make some info more accurate.
    The name of your tent is Svalbard...like the island that is the home of polar bears. If you write it correctly in the title, people who look for this tent will find your video easier.
    About the materials: ( I felt like you got confused about this)
    PU tents are made of Ripstop Polyester with PU coating on the inside of the outer tent. (Polyester is the key word that you didn't say)And the fact that it's polyester makes it cheaper. Nordisk uses 68D polyester on their PU tents, not 40D. 40D is the nylon on your SI tent, this is where you got confused I think. And both the Nylon and the Polyester are Ripstop. Ripstop is a construction, not a material.
    SI tents are made of RipStop Nylon with Sil coating and this nylon on the SI tents is 40D.
    They have a great website : nordisk.eu they write about the materials there very clearly.
    You have an awesome tent, very reliable! Use it a lot and enjoy it.

  • @shabingly
    @shabingly 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I really want to love this tent, but the 4 or 5 times I've used it I have had quite bad condensation on the fly, and the large side panels means it's easy for the inner to touch the fly. I know all tents get condensation to some degree if conditions are right for it, but I honestly think the design (fly right to the ground, pole sleeves on the inner blocking the majority of any airflow through the tent) just makes it worse.
    I'm sure that in decent winds and pitched door-into-wind it'd be much better as you'd get more through-flow.
    Construction quality is excellent though, although I've heard some suffer from issues with taping on the inner floor. Mine seems fine.

    • @soletrail
      @soletrail  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Andy.. yep it is with its flaws but a solid tent. Haven't had the condensation issues to be honest. Your right though, it's all about the direction of the tent. I have recently sold the tent and bought a Vango Helium 1. Looking forward to trying that out. ✌️🙂 Cheers for comment.

      @@nomnom9968 stick with their site. Wonder if the 2 person is 70cm.. maybe that's where the confusion is. Thanks for pointing that out. I don't have that tent anymore. If I had I'd measure it for you 🙂

    so having boots, 60l pack in a porch and cook atthe same time is impossible withhis tent?

      You would be pushed for space to be honest. Go bigger.

    Don’t you need a footprint groundsheet ?

    • @soletrail
      @soletrail  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's up to you. I use them sometimes. The ripstop material in most tents is very high so there isn't really a need for a footprint. In Iceland I brought a plastic sheet I cut to suit the tent. It's really up to you.

    Think the mesh netting is to stop flies and midgets getting in.

      Yep that's what the mesh is for. Just didn't understand why it opens fully. Great tent thou. 🙌
