Thank you so much, so informative....this video really helped me out adding gauges to my boat - I couldn't find this information anywhere else. Very nice video.
how do I identify what gauges to buy? I'm not sure what key words to search for to make sure I'm getting gauges that are compatible with my 2007 mercury outboard vfi 4-stroke. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I am not familiar with your exact model, but in general I suggest: -start your search with a reputable brand to know what is available, e.g. SeaStar 68363P or Sierra 6836P are complete sets compatible with many motors. - that will show what a fill complement of gages would look like, read the detailed descriptions of each & you can search for cheaper options if you wish based on those descriptions (check with local Merc dealer or a NA based tech/sales rep by phone for compatibility, eg Wholesale Marine.com) - search for your motor model and serial number on the Mercury site, and/or have someone knowledgeable check your engine to see how it is equipped. -Your motor might or might not have an oil pressure sender for oil pressure, or a water temp sensor for coolant temp, or a trim sender for trim angle etc These sensors can be added though and your harness might or might not already have the wires already there. - Your motor wiring would definitely support a tachometer and voltmeter. -when using aftermarket "universal" equipment you will likely have to modify connectors and adapt between different wire color schemes, so be prepared to look up wiring diagram online. -a note about universal tachs: it may take some trial and error to select the correct calibration for your motor (varies with number of cylinders and 2 stroke or 4 stroke). Hope that helps in some way!

is there a remote trim switch on the motor? handy when on trailer
Yes, the motor has a trim switch on the port side. Used often!
