discord.gg/fq8CuecRqu I made a fan Megadeth server since the main one isnt active and doesnt allow messaging from users feel free to join the server and also talk about Megadeth and have fun and you can request videos as well :)
It's too bad nobody really knows about gar except the hardcore fans.this guy was incredible.thank for the uploads bro and you got a new subscriber.thank you for keeping gars name alive.man is he good.the best Megadeth drummer in my opinion.when other drummers from Megadeth play his beats it's not the same.it does not sound the same.its a shame he died at 41.
OK. The usual incredibly intricate Gar stuff...but isolated his kick drum beats are really unique. Hes a little bit foward on the snare beat and kind of drags his kicks behind in a really unique syncopated way. As great as Menza was he could never really match Gar's feel on the old stuff. He always kind of sounded a little bit stiff playing Gar's stuff One of the most interesting and individualistic metal drummers even to this day.
Fully agree with all the above. He does have a real push and pull vibe but still in the pocket. His double single footed kicks have only ever been matched by Dirk. His footwork in rattlehead and Black Friday are unreal on the single double foot parts. I could listen to gar all day and not get bored.
NOT TO TAKE ANYTHING AWAY FROM ANY MEGADETH MUSICIANS, THEY ARE ALL GREAT IN THEIR OWN WAY, BUT I DONT THINK GAR GETS TALKED ABOUT ENOUGH, I THINK HE IS A LITTLE BIT UNDERRATED COMPARED TO OTHERS AND DOESNT GET AS MUCH RECOGNITION, HE IS FKN AMAZING AND I WISH HE WAS TALKED ABOUT MORE

@@leonshreds I'm a pro muso (guitar and harmonica) and I have a similar feel like Gar. I'm just a little bit loose with my feel but my timing is totally in the pocket to the point where I annoy drummers in the pocket
On the back on peace sells it says: GAR SAMUELSON Drums and Cigarette Burns. Instruments Played: Gretch Power Tom Drums, Ludwig "Black Beauty" Snare, Sabian Cymbals, Drum Workshop Drum Pedals.
after googling "what drum set did gar samuelson use" this came up: "Gar is known as one of the first drummers to use DW drums. He used DW drums, Zildjian Cymbals, Remo drum heads, and what was known to be early Vater Drumsticks. Samuelson died at the age of 41 in Orange City, Florida on July 22, 1999; the cause of death was reportedly liver failure."
