Here are a few tips for working with crown molding in #SketchUp. I show you the proper way to use the Follow Me tool (Select the path first, THEN using Follow Me), and I show you a few different ways to make changes to the moldings after they are drawn by using selection boxes, Move tool, and the intersect faces command. These tips are useful for any type of extruded profile, but I just happen to be working on Crown molding th-cam.com/video/GvBnH3BHZKA/w-d-xo.html
Should've heard my gasp and anguished groan when you first deleted the crown moulding in the first minute or so!!!! I've been faffing about trying to do mouldings and trim for ages and i would rather create a new file and paste into it rather than delete any hard won, laborious, painstakingly drawn mouldings!!! Due to miserly 4g data quota (remote location) I've avoided going to the warehouse to import profiles so I've always started from scratch.....which has been slow but I've learned a ton of things. But getting that follow me tool to behave itself has been a real challenge... Thanks very very very much for such a clear and concise video. Looking forward to cementing your techniques into my sketchup skills repertoire. And hi from south Western Australia!
ernmage1 I'm glad you liked it. I just wish I had used a better example, like if the molding returned on the left hand side too. If that were the case, it would've been a better demonstration as to why you would need to use that method.
Im using the free version of sketchup. I cant open the 3d warehouse. It says "The requested URL cant be found" I cant find any info on the web....PLEASE HELP
paul c Which method are you referring to? The last one, when I use "Intersect with model?" Are you sure the rectangle and the molding are within the same group? That's likely the problem if you're not able to intersect the plane with the molding.
Following it step by step and it does not work as you show. You must be leaving something out when you are explaining the procedure. Maybe the 3D download models have something to do with it. Step by step and it does not work.

Do you use a cabinet plugin for your cabinets? Or just from scratch? Asking because you resized it in the beginning and it didn’t distort. Thx!!
Супер! Спасибо! А как сделать изменения молдинга с декором по длине, но что бы декор не изменялся ?
Hi Matt,
I've just downloaded sketchup 2015 can you still get Sketchup physics as a free plugin for Sketchup 2015.
Brian UK.
Brian Hinton code.google.com/p/sketchyphysics/ It's not being developed any more. Not sure about compatibility these days.

Matt, great Tutorial. However, On my Mac using SU Make15, I could not "cut" the molding using the steps you outlined. Can anybody help?

MasterSketchup Thanks for your reply. I think I got it. You make it look to easy! It took me many tries.
