  • It’s been a few years since I’ve filmed an f22 Raptor so it was great to catch up with the display team at aviation nation. Arguably the raptor is the ultimate multi role fighter built to date but everyone has their own opinions depending on which side of the planet you live.
I’ve listed some statistics below which may be of interest.
Primary function: air dominance, multi-role fighter
    Contractor: Lockheed-Martin, Boeing
Power plant: two Pratt & Whitney F119-PW-100 turbofan engines with afterburners and two-dimensional thrust vectoring nozzles.
    Thrust: 35,000-pound class (each engine)
    Wingspan: 44 feet, 6 inches (13.6 meters)
    Length: 62 feet, 1 inch (18.9 meters)
    Height: 16 feet, 8 inches (5.1 meters)
    Weight: 43,340 pounds (19,700 kilograms)
Maximum takeoff weight: 83,500 pounds (38,000 kilograms)
Fuel capacity: internal: 18,000 pounds (8,200 kilograms); with 2 external wing fuel tanks: 26,000 pounds (11,900 kilograms)
Payload: same as armament air-to-air or air-to-ground loadouts; with or without two external wing fuel tanks.
Speed: mach two class with supercruise capability
Range: more than 1,850 miles ferry range with two external wing fuel tanks (1,600 nautical miles)
Ceiling: above 50,000 feet (15 kilometers)
Armament: one M61A2 20-millimeter cannon with 480 rounds, internal side weapon bays carriage of two AIM-9 infrared (heat seeking) air-to-air missiles and internal main weapon bays carriage of six AIM-120 radar-guided air-to-air missiles (air-to-air loadout) or two 1,000-pound GBU-32 JDAMs and two AIM-120 radar-guided air-to-air missiles (air-to-ground loadout)
    Crew: one
    Unit cost: $143 million
    Initial operating capability: December 2005
    Inventory: total force, 183
    The pilot
    major. Joshua "Cabo" Gunderson
Major Joshua Gunderson is the United States Air Force F-22 Demonstration Team commander and pilot stationed at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Hampton, Va. As the F-22 Demo Team Commander, he is responsible for representing Air Combat Command, the United States Air Force, the Department of Defense, and the United States of America at more than 20 air shows annually.
He leads the 18-member F-22 Demonstration Team, oversees maintenance actions performed on one of the most advanced fighter jets ever built, and showcases the Raptor’s exceptional maneuverability for more than 10 million spectators around the world each year. He is an operational F-22 pilot assigned to the 1st Operations Group within the 1st Fighter Wing.
Maj. Gunderson is from Tampa, Florida. After graduating from Bloomingdale High School, he attended the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. During his time as a cadet, he participated in a foreign exchange program with the Spanish Air Force at their Academy in San Javier, Spain. In 2008, he earned his commission and graduated from the Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geospatial Science and a minor in Spanish.
Maj. Gunderson then attended undergraduate pilot training at Sheppard Air Force Base as part of the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot training program in Wichita Falls, Texas. There he flew the T-6 Texan II and the T-38C Talon. He earned his pilot wings after completing the program in 2010.
Following pilot training, Maj. Gunderson completed Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals, flying the AT-38C Talon at Randolph AFB, Texas prior to attending the F-15C Eagle Basic Course at Kingsley Field Air National Guard Base in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Upon graduation, Maj. Gunderson was assigned to the 44th Fighter Squadron at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan as an operational fighter pilot and Mission Commander.
Maj. Gunderson attended the F-22 Raptor transition course in August of 2014 at Tyndall Air Force Base. Upon completion, he flew F-22 Raptors in the 90th Fighter Squadron at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska until August of 2019 and also served as the Chief of Advanced Programs and an Instructor/Evaluator Pilot.
While serving in Alaska, Maj. Gunderson was selected to be the F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team commander and pilot which lead him to move to the 1st Fighter Wing at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in September of 2019.
Maj. Gunderson is an experienced combat proven Fighter Pilot with over 1,500 hours and two deployments to the Middle East in both the F-15 and F-22. Maj. Gunderson is thrilled to be a member of the F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team with the mission of showcasing American airpower, recruiting and retaining America’s finest personnel into the Armed Forces, and enhancing international and domestic relationships.

Parents...Bring your children to an airshow if you are able...I am 42 now and some of my best memories are from walks in the woods of Litchfield , New Hampshire right next to the air shows at The Manchester New Hampshire airport which was small at the time but now a fairly large northeastern hub. My grandpa C.Frederick Matthews was in the RCAF/NASA and I always admired him and the "Fly Boys". God bless us all. So proud! Oh my how we have come from the AVRO AERO to the Raptor. That's odd..... For the first minute of the video, you can see RIVETS! and what looks like sections of patched material on the fuselage! I have never seen this before.
Rivets are known to compromise stealth characteristics,. They also detract from the craft's smooth lines and just look ugly.
Either these were added specifically to mask its stealth characteristics, or I've missed seeing this peculiar 'feature' all these years.

honestly you'd think that watching something that's been around since 2005 that we would eventually get tired of watching it ........ thankfully i'm not one of them.

Why do these types of videos make me 🤔 about well you know, why?I mean is it the Top Gun thing that gets me 🤔 about it or is it the power, the noise, the excitement, the thought of Iceman being the pilot in every single darn aircraft, seriously am I the only person?

The USA took the best of the JSF programme and made this beast! - Love watching it slip through the skies. Excellent video.

F-22 (YF-22) Raptor has great fan following in India including me as I love this jet , dreamed to touch it's once in future I like it over F-35 as F-22 is more stealthy over anyone in the world from 1997 , thnx man for this work 🙏 love from India, If India get only one of this than one F-22 can destroy 2 squadrons of Chinese J-20 before take off 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 hope is continue 🙏🙏🙏 respect from India🇮🇳
