  • We're putting one of your favourite clothing items - jeans - to the test. We buy jeans from popular brands like Abercrombie & Fitch, Levi’s, H&M, Old Navy, Gap, Lee and Wrangler, and have experts check how the actual size of the jeans measures up to what's on the label.

We should also keep in mind how certain brands have different sizes between their line in the store. At H&M especially you can fit into a certain size jean and have a second pair of jeans - with the same size label - completely different. Some store have huge inconsistences within their own lines.

This contributes to our throwaway fashion culture. All these manufacturers have lost control of their brands and online clothing purchases are often a disaster.

Different labels are sawn in the end.

I think the vanity sizing thing backfired over time. I can't stand entering a mall anymore after wasting so much time trying on clothing. I haven't changed in size for the last 15 years, so I simply purchase a bulk amount of the same kind of blue jean (when on sale or priced right) and only bring out a new pair once I retire an old pair. Buying clothing this way means I haven't been in a mall to make clothing purchases in years and I Have a great stockpile of blue jeans for years to come. However in doing this, I have seen how the quality of jeans has fallen off completely in the last decade for the brand I bought.

I dont shop a lot, but Ive realized a long time ago that different brands of clothing varies a little bit in their sizes despite of what the tag says. I thought it was just due to the varying styles of the clothing between different manufacturers. its interesting to know that its just due to the silly marketers.

It was interesting to see that the Old Navy jeans were the correct size. Their sizes vary from style to style so I can't just buy my size and be guaranteed the jeans will fit. Since they're more of a budget brand and you tend to get what you pay for sometimes the size will vary from colour to colour, or vary between production lots. I find it frustrating to buy from them since they only sell the tall sizes online, have to buy multiple sizes and return what doesn't fit.

I had a baby at the beginning of the pandemic. I tried ordering jeans online. The sizing was way off from what their size guides said they were. I couldn't go in stores to return or try on jeans. It's so annoying! I wish they would put the correct sizes online, and on the actual jeans.

  • @Realism91

I've never met anyone who didn't know most brands aren't true to size, I really don't get how anyone would care about their clothing sizes because the companies don't care to be standardized, if everything was standardized they'd sell more efficiently, people wouldn't be afraid to buy online also.

01:18 well for a start, no one wears jeans around their waist, they wear them around their hips, unless it's a high waist cut for a woman. So maybe better to get the hip measurements, we're people actually wear them.

Vanity sizing should be banned, and the penalties inaccurate labeling should be exponentially increased with the size of the company that owns the brand. We should assume that large corporations like Levi's have more than adequate resources top ensure that their clothes are correctly labeled for size, and if they engage in this kind of practice they should be punished enough that they they stop doing it. Or soon go bankrupt from the size of the fines.

It depends of the style of jeans one buys. I buy only GAP from these brands, so cannot speak for the rest. But GAP is OK for me. I wear 26R or 27R and I buy most of the jeans online. I read the reviews and and choose between 26 or 27 and they 95% of the time fit great. It matters also the body type. I'm not straight and not super curvy, although curvy style fits better. So, I guess once you don't fit a "standard" type you might have issues with jeans in general.

So annoying. I gained roughly 5 lbs from when I was in university in the late 90s and now. Meanwhile, I sizing is smaller now than it was back then. Think is I’m 120lbs, 5ft8 and it’s already hard to find clothing to fit my waist vs length of my legs. But what used to be a medium top in the 90s is now x-small. Waists of 6 or 8 in the 90s is now 0 or 00! As I am NOT invisible, this makes no sense to be wearing a 0 or 00 waists. In jeans, I look for 24 or 25 when I used to pick up 27 or 28 WHEN I WAS THINNER!

I have a hell of a time finding jeans that fit. Not as much because of waist but because I am a tall guy with big legs. All pants have trended towards skinny legs. Even the ones that are supposed to be relaxed fit are really tight to the point that I can't pull them any higher than my knees because the calf is way too narrow.

That closing line of "do your research" is mostly bullshit. Work a 40h a week job, take care of your children and also "do your research" on the jeans you buy, the food you eat, the added charges on your bill, the person doing your oil change... on and on companies will screw you and you need to have the time to research and read every damn thing you buy and do. Its just not achievable for the added person. This is why we have customer protective services.

that what i dislike is sizing of jean noone should be ashamed of size, shape and body type. Bluenote, urban planet. fit big or bigger. why not measure them the one jean of 32 size (if it 34 in) then added correct size on that jeans. regardless styles it not justified enough excuse. same goes dress shirt, t shirt as well are one size smaller than it should be in bluenote and urban planet(kids sizing included) M is L, L is XL like come on. for length of M shirt that trying to be larger need sleeve but maybe that the style people don't want short sleeve but at the same time aren't comfortable with tank sleeveless shirt. some t shirt length can marginally be longer.....styles make impact in sizing.
